Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 365 comments I don't really feel any guilt over books, books are awesome. I guess the only time I really feel guilty is when I read a book, recognise that it is not good, and love it anyway. I can't manage this until it's finished though and I come across these so rarely that it wouldn't be a good fit for the challenge.

Instead I went for the "fluffiest" of my favourites, historical romance. I read Where Dreams Begin by Lisa Kleypas. It was decent enough and was a nice breather in the midst of my stressful life.

Patricia I have a hard time with this category as well because I don't feel guilty about any book I read. I kept thinking of a way to justify a book to fit and I finally decided that I would look at it as almost two separate categories.

For the "guilty" part I thought I could be accused of judging a book solely on its cover and so I probably miss out on books that are really good (the "pleasure" part) because of it.

So, I looked at the books on my shelf, sorted out the ones I probably wouldn't be inclined to read based on their covers, and asked my husband to choose something from among them that he thought I would enjoy.

Sounds reasonable, right? We haven't been able to agree, lol. So, in the end, this category will be designated as a "wildcard" pick which means the final book I read for the challenge. Oh well, I did try! :)

Melanie I read the twilight saga as my guilty pleasure. My bff hated the first book so much, I didn't want to read the series be caused she'd think less of me. They weren't literary classics, and the plot got STRANGE in the last book, but now I know what the kids-these-days are talking about.

I think about this category, and the phrase "guilty pleasure" in less literal terms. I don't feel guilt, per se, either, but maybe something closer to embarrassment. Not necessarily that I wouldn't admit it in public, but maybe something I know people would mock me for reading. Or, as I said above, a book I consider "brain candy". Obviously, this would be different for everyone, but for me, Twilight comes to mind.

Nancy Groves | 67 comments Up until now I had no idea what to read for this category, since I don't really buy into the idea that any book is a "guilty pleasure" if you like it. But I decided to go with the final book in Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series, The Lure of the Moonflower. I guess they could be called romance novels, or something close to that, and that's a category I avoid (nothing against the genre or those who like it, but it's just one that generally doesn't appeal to me). But I've loved these books since the first in the series was published in 2005, and I've read all 12. Clearly they are a "pleasure," although I don't know about the "guilty" part! This is just as close as I could get to something that fit the description.

Jennifer (bluejeanb26) Overly-hyped young adult fiction is my guilty pleasure. I finally got my hands on a copy of a YA novel that I have heard is a must-read more than once. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart started out slow, but made my heart clench in the last chapters. Argh! This is why I like YA fiction. It seldom disappoints.

Krisha | 17 comments I'm among those who don't believe in guilty pleasures (at least not in reading) but I ended up settling on TV tie in novels. I figured TV makes me feel guilty about not reading more and tie in novels aren't exactly great literature. I love them anyway because I get my TV characters while reading. Anyway, I read Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham. It was great fun.

Wellington (stenella) | 104 comments Harlequin Romances are my guilty pleasure books. For this challenge I read The Greek's Christmas Baby by Lucy Monroe.

message 109: by Alicea (new)

Alicea (pandypuddingpie) Anytime I reread a favorite when I have a ton of books to read is a "guilty pleasure" especially when I've read it more than twice. So for this one I'll count The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.

Paulette (pbrooks17) | 30 comments I admit it - I really like reading Jojo Moyes, so I did read her latest After You After you.

Jeannette (jmtrivera) | 26 comments Totally read another romance novel by Marion Chesney. My guilty pleasure is funny romance novels. I just get such a kick out of them.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 131 comments Hope it's not a problem that I'm posting in the threads half a year after the fact, but I only took on this challenge at the start of this month (July 2016). For this prompt, I'm reading Kristy's Big News because the Baby-sitters Club was one of my favourite series when I was a kid, and I have no memory at all of reading this series of sequels.
