Atara | 3 comments I read this book because I had seen the movie and loved it. Usually movies don't measure up to the books they are adapted from. But, because I think the movie is so good, I just had to see what the "real" story is like. I like the book and just as I suspected, it was much more involved. The book is Night Train to Lisbon by Swiss writer Pascal Mercier.

One of my all time favorite books. There are two more books in the series, so far, well worth reading if you liked this one. I understand Zafon is writing a fourth book.

Grace (gracieleeh) | 13 comments I just started Doctor Zhivago for this one. Good so far! Very lush prose.

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 364 comments I read Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood. It was a fantastic book in every way and the translation was very natural.

Glenn Halberstadt | 14 comments "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino. My blog posts has links to paintings and sculpture inspired by the various cities that Marco Polo describes to Kublai Khan. I had enjoyed the book, but didn't know what to say about it, so even if these artworks aren't a good idea, I was grateful for them. http://www.imcpl.org/readersconnectio...

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) I've already completed this category and posted above but I am currently reading "The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared" by Jonas Jonasson for a book club and I am loving it. It was originally published in Swedish. I'd highly recommend it for this challenge. It's definitely different but it's very witty and kind of reminds me of the movie Big Fish.

Jennifer (bluejeanb26) I am so happy that I happened across The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is set in Barcelona, Spain, and was originally published in Spanish. Wonderful read! I rated it 5 stars on Goodreads. If you are still looking for a book to fulfill this task, please choose this one.

If you liked Shadow of the Wind, there are two more books (so far) in the series. All are wonderfully mysterious.

Elizabeth (goodreadscomelizabeth_roe_in) | 29 comments I read and very much enjoyed A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman.

message 111: by Paulette (new)

Paulette (pbrooks17) | 30 comments I read The Little Paris Bookshop by German author Nina George.

message 113: by Sophia (new)

Sophia | 62 comments Just finished The Room by Jonas Karlsson, translated from Swedish by Neil Smith. I really enjoyed it - it feels like a blend of the off-kilter humor from The Office and the surreal atmosphere of Being John Malkovich. The main character is strange and most definitely an unreliable narrator. A fun, quick read.

The Room by Jonas Karlsson

message 114: by Sue (new)

Sue (fyrewitch) Made it through Anna Karenina. A challenge, but well worth it!

message 115: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (booknester) Pelagia and the Red Rooster. Took me a long time to finish this book for a 1,000 reasons and in the end I think it hurt my overall opinion. But I might also try the other two in the series just to see, but not this year.

CallMeSensei | 0 comments I'm either going to read

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas The Three Musketeers

OR

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka The Metamorphosis

They both work for the before 1850 challenge as well so whichever I don't read for this, I will probably read for the other.

Beachesnbooks | 49 comments I went with The Shadow of the Wind for this challenge. It's beautifully written and an intriguing mystery. I'd recommend it if anyone still needs a book for this task!

message 119: by Dee (new)

Dee This by far has been the most difficult challenge for me.

message 120: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (andromache) | 35 comments I read An Oresteia. It was wonderful.

message 121: by Alicea (new)

Alicea (pandypuddingpie) Read The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson.

message 122: by Wellington (new)

Wellington (stenella) | 104 comments I read The Keeper Of Lost Causes for this challenge. I am still trying to decide whether I liked it or not. Books, or movies, from Europeans have a different feel to them that I can't quite pinpoint and I generally have mixed feelings about them.

message 123: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette (jmtrivera) | 26 comments I read One Hundred Years of Solitude which I really enjoyed. So glad I read it.
