Sophia | 62 comments I read Flights and Chimes and Mysterious Times by Emma Trevayne, recommended to me by my sister. It's a middle grade (not quite YA) novel that deals with a steampunk-y, alternate universe London--fun fantasy themes, with substance.

Loreen ☕️ | 0 comments Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

Two friends that I trust for wine and food recommendations recommended Soulless. I finished it a few days ago. I really enjoyed it. So much so that I plan on reading the rest of the books in the series along with the YA books that live in the same steampunk universe.

The moral of the story is that if your friends recommend good wine chances are that they will also recommend good books.

Kathy E I read The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell recommended by a librarian friend. Totally different than what I usually read. Glad I read it.

My cousin recommended this to me and I finally gave in!

First 5 Star read of 2015. I know I'm late to the party ..."

Britany, I too read Outlander and I felt like it just gave me too much information about the recommender haha!

Leanne (littlebunnylibrary) | 23 comments I'm going to read The Girl with All the Gifts for this one - one of the many books recommended to me by my future sister-in-law!

Samantha Showalter (sammisho) | 37 comments Just finished The Handmaid's Tale. This book was recommended to me by several friends, lists of "life changing books" and a fellow book rioter.I am left speechless. This book will change the way I live my life.

The book was written a while ago of course, but at the time, Atwood stated that everything in it existed in part somewhere in the world, and it probably still does.

Paulette (pbrooks17) | 30 comments Recommended by a friend from book club and based on a famous Depression photograph - Mary Coin by Marisa Silver. Good read.

message 59: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Schwartz | 54 comments Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson . Love Scandinavian thrillers. Recommended to me when it first came out and I finally got to check it off my TBR list.

message 60: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Bennison | 1 comments I read Of Mice and Men. It was recommended by my boyfriend. Pretty good and sad book.

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 365 comments I am close to finishing Dark Dreams by Roy Hazelwood and Stephen G. Michaud, which has been enjoyable and an entirely new experience for me since I have never read any true crime before. Recommended by my dad.

message 62: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen (katelizabee) | 22 comments The very first book I read in 2015 was The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters, which I read on the recommendation of a friend. I also read Catch-22 on the recommendation of my fiance; despite being substantially shorter than The Paying Guests, it took me so much longer to get through.

message 63: by Jen (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 60 comments I received recommendations from a couple of places (one of which was Book Riot! Thanks, Book Riot!) to read All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I wasn't sure I was in the mood to read historical fiction, but once I started it, I was hooked! I loved it!

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

message 64: by Wellington (new)

Wellington (stenella) | 104 comments I just finished Unintended Consequences by Marti Green. My mom recommended it to me and I thought it was just going to be a good, but simple mystery. I was so wrong. This is a very thoughtful look at the death penalty and our society's views on who deserves to die told through an engaging story. Definitely recommend it.

message 65: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (booknester) Big Little Lies - very fun, easy and light read but it is scarey that the same parenting model is found in Australia as I have seen here in the States.

message 66: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (bluejeanb26) A friend recommended that I read Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple, which I alternately hated and loved. In the end, it earned 5 stars. :) I found myself eagerly anticipating the next time I could read on it.

message 67: by Alicea (new)

Alicea (pandypuddingpie) Read The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton as recommended by my bestie. So fantastic.

message 68: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (conservio) | 12 comments I read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. That has got to be the most boring book I have ever read. I could read it only in 70 page increments and I fell asleep 3 times while reading it.

message 69: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette (jmtrivera) | 26 comments A friend of mine has been after me to read The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan forever, so I read that one for this challenge. Pretty fun.
