I agree. Internet friends or in-person friends, you can get good ideas from both.A coworker has been telling me for the longest that I HAVE to read The Hunger Games, so this might be when I finally take the plunge.
Malvina wrote: "My mom keeps pushing Ken Follett on me so I might read Pillars of the Earth."I love that book!
This works out nicely! I'll be reading Walter Mosely's The Long Fall as I just got it in my book club book exchange, highly recommended by a member there!
Jenny wrote: "Planning on Bel Canto and Going Bovine."Ooooh, Bel Canto is AMAZING. Started me on my Ann Patchett binge-read :)
I just contributed Bel Canto to my book club christmas book swap. It's very interesting and thoughtful!
I plan on reading Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety. It was recommended by a colleague at work.
I've had several friends recommend Goldfinch, so I think I'll read that one. But yes, Bel Canto is wonderful! I recommended that book to so many people back when I first read it.
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation Regency Spy stuff. Could qualify as guilty pleasure as well:-)
I'm not sure which one I'll read first, but I can think of three books that have been recommended to me and that I haven't read yet: The Shadow of the Wind, by a co-worker; The Web of Days, by my great-grandmother; and Silent Spring, by my sixth grade teacher.
I'm just about to start H is for Hawk which will be my first book of the challenge! Recommended by just about every UK newspaper and my partner.
I completed this today The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. It was quite good, funny and easy to read. 1 down 23 to go!
A friend at work lent me a copy of the first book of The Dresden Files series, so I'm reading that for this challenge. Started it this morning!
I just finished "Wolf in White Van" by John Darnielle; it was recommended on the website for my public library and I thought the premise sounded really interesting.Finishing the book was like coming out the other side of a maze that twists and turns; as soon as you feel like you know which way you're going, you start to wonder if you've been going the wrong way the whole time!

and have been meaning to check this one out as well.

My wife recommended Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. I just read a horrible book--Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out--for my LGBTQ challenge and am in need of a palate cleanser.

I just finished Big Little Lies by Liana Moriarty because my friend, Lori, recommended it to me. Creative, unique, original, captivating, credible, smart .... These are all words that describe this social issue take wrapped in a mystery. If you need a recommendation, I highly suggest you read this!

If anyone needs a recommendation, I wanted to recommend my favorite book I read last year: A Tale for the Time Being
I read it based on the recommendation of someone in one of my GoodReads groups so I thought I'd pass along the love.
I just finished a recommendation. The Four Year Career by Richard Bliss Brooke
It is about Network Marketing. I just became an Arbonne Consultant and my upline told me I need to read it.
I read
on my bother's recommendation. I've looked at it several times and now I'm glad I listened to him. I've already started the next book in the series.
Finished
by Diana Gabaldon-- 5 Stars!! My cousin recommended this to me and I finally gave in!
First 5 Star read of 2015. I know I'm late to the party on this series, but I can't express how hesitant I was to read these. I'm not a fan of science fiction or time travel, I also hate starting unfinished series... This book was so much more than I could explain. I fell in love with the Highlands...

The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel is such a sweet story that reminds you how precious life really this. My Mom recommended this one to me since I'm such a lover of books.
Sharon wrote: "I've had several friends recommend Goldfinch, so I think I'll read that one. But yes, Bel Canto is wonderful! I recommended that book to so many people back when I first read it."The Goldfinch is a great book. It's a little slow in places but the end makes up for it.
I just read The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, which was recommended to me by my sister-in-law. Loved it!
How do I love thee, Amanda Palmer? Let me count the ways...
I *adored* this book & would recommend it to anyone interested in art, memoir, the sharing ethos, or self. (It would be a great choice for the self-help challenge, btw.)
It was recommended to me (and to humans everywhere) by Amanda Popova, the brilliant mind behind Brainpickings.org - my review is here, where you can find a link to the recommendation as well as links to AFP's blog and TED talk.
I hope someone else in the group reads this - I'd love to hear their thoughts!
So after telling my mom about this challenge (no she's not doing it because she likes the genre she's reading right now) and the pop sugar challenge (hey, that was the first one I stumbled across), she totally recommended "Gone With the Wind." I don't think we've ever talked so long as when she was telling me about this book. So, I'm gonna go with mom's recommendation here and finally read "Gone With the Wind." Enjoy your week readers!
I actually read three books for this particular task because my mom recommended The Song of Albion trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. I quite enjoyed them, but must admit book #2 was by far my favorite. One task down, several to go!
Reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls for this challenge. Recommended to me by more than one person.
For this task I read The Light Between Oceans, as it was recommended by a woman in my book club at work. It was quite sad, but I really enjoyed it! Definitely worth picking up!

Finished
, recommended by a friend - it was actually their Christmas present to me! Beautiful artwork, excellent rendition of the tale.
Over the weekend I read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. One of my best friends has been badgering me to read this since it came out. It was not at all what I expected, but it was pretty good.
I finished "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake" recommended by a friend. It was a solid and unique read. 'm not sure what I was expecting but this one was such a nice surprise.
I just finished Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. I'm so glad that my friend Janet recommended it to me, and now I'm going to recommend it to my brother. A great read for anyone having to contemplate decisions about care with loved ones facing serious health issues!
I just finished "Between Heaven and Mirth" for this challenge because my grandpa recommended it too me! I highly recommend it to anyone who is a Christian! Don't let it having been written by a Jesuit priest stop you for reading it! It is a wonderful book.
I just finished "The Color of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. A friend of mine recommended it to me ages ago, going so far as to pick up a copy at a used book sale back home and mailing it to me, but I've neglected it until this year. I absolutely *adored* this book and am so excited to read the next in the series!
