Yes, I used to read my SB, but I'm getting back into her. So far, so good.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I was so excited about Alice + Freda Forever A Murder in Memphis by Alexis Coe but was very disappointed by it :(

The story itself is very interesting but I felt like I was reading a high school research paper...footnotes and all. The illustrations were good but that is about all I can say about it. There were actual letters in the book but from an e-reader POV they were very difficult to see to read. There were lots of mistakes one of the most annoying one was the author repeatedly stating that Memphis is in East TN. Well, NOOOOOOOOO Memphis, as long as I have lived here in TN, has always been in West TN. LOL so that really made me wonder how valid the other information/research in the book was accurate. I think this would have worked out much better as a work of fiction instead of non-fiction.

Paladin of Souls (Chalion, #2) by Lois McMaster Bujold is written from a woman's perspective. She has a small role in The Curse of Chalion (Chalion, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold but is a wonderful, smart, and snappy woman in the sequel. I actually read the second book first, and then the first. The stories are connected, but not terribly closely. And events in the first help to explain events in the second. But, Caz is barely present in Paladin, yet some supporting characters have a larger role.

Anyway, the main characters from the two books are so different (besides gender) that it's probably good there are different narrators. Kate Reading does an amazing job.

I am not sure I am enjoying it. The narrator isn't great. Liv is fighting Baird hard and he is being so nice. He even made her pizza!

The narrator can really make or break a book experience. Thanks for sharing that as I'm interested in working my way through that series as well. Although I agree that Liv is particularly hard headed, she does have some reason to be upset.

LMAO I shouldn't have laughed either, but it is funny. I wonder how many actually caught that or even know that Memphis is in West TN. A good editor should have caught that mistake or maybe the editor thought Memphis was in East TN. LOL

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I'm in a reading slump. Have only read 1 book so far in 2015. Started a non-romance book for a Pick-It-For-Me thing in a different group, but that was a week ago and I've yet to pick it back up. Been busy every single day, then when I do get home, I fool around online for a few minutes and watch some TV and I'm out cold, lol. Haven't gotten any reading accomplished. Should be working on Say Yes to the Marquess (Castles Ever After, #2) by Tessa Dare , My Lady Notorious (Malloren, #1) by Jo Beverley , or The Defiant Mistress (City of Flames, #1) by Claire Thornton , or heck even the non-rom I started ( Hunted Past Reason by Richard Matheson if you're curious), or even The Edge of Desire (Bastion Club, #7) by Stephanie Laurens , Tucker's Claim (Hell's Eight, #3) by Sarah McCarty , or Scandalous Desires (Maiden Lane, #3) by Elizabeth Hoyt to continue series I've started... but I just haven't been feelin' it :\

She's also received tons of awards, but you don't see many of her books in the bookstore. I'm not sure if this is due to a lack of PR on her publisher's part, or if her books seem less accessible.

That book started off wonderfully, but I didn't feel that the author fully redeemed the hero for something he did to the heroine. It was a case of the hero thinking the end justified the means and his repentance came too late for me. So I gave it a 3.5 star.

I loved how Lisa Kleypas redeemed Sebastian in Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas . But Julia Quinn didn't get me there in this book. nevertheless, the Writing was good.

Rosalyn Landor is the BEST. YES, the book was well written, well narrated. Again, it was an incident that left me cold towards the hero. When the book started off saying that Sir Richard Kenworthy HAD to find a bride and had to find one NOW...I just knew!

I'm planning to read Omertà by Mario Puzo about a month ago. And I had the same opinion. LK and JQ are my fave authors and I loved Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas. It is one of my all-time favourites! I loved the MCs in Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas soo much! But the MCs in The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #4) by Julia Quinn were not so great. I really liked Iris at the beginning but she just sort of frizzled out in the end! And with Sir Richard, there was a lot of potential but the character never lived up to its promise!

Check out the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn especially Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Bridgertons, #4) by Julia Quinn and An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3) by Julia Quinn

Lara | 2335 comments Yeah, it's weird how the publishers are starting with the later books in the series rather than recording from the beginning. I guess they want to cash in on the current book as it's coming out. It would be nice if they fast-tracked the earlier books in the series in that case.
