2020 Series Madness Challenge

[Crusader]

We are having another Series Madness Challenge.

We are reading from 1 January 2020 until 31 December 2020.

All books read during this period will count towards the challenge.

There are no tasks to complete but points will be gathered. You gather points by reading books that are a part of a series. For every book that is first in a series you will get one point, for every book that is second you will get two points etc. If a series like Discworld has 40 books you can get 40 points for the last book in the series.

The catch is that you have to read the books in order. If you first read book 3 and then book 6 and then book 1 you will not get full points. For every book read out of order you will get one point.

You don't have to read all the books during the challenge. So if you have already read books 1-5 in a series last year or before and read book 6 in 2015 you will get 6 points as long as you have read them.

Series filler books also count (e.g. Book 1.5 in a series) as long as they are 150 pages or more. Each series filler book gets points that are the same as its position in the series (e.g. Book 3.5 counts for 3.5 points) However, they need to be read in order of the series. Any filler books that are read out of sequence count for only 1 point. Please note: Reading filler books is optional, they will not affect the main sequence of books in a series, so if you read book 4 but move on to book 5 instead of reading book 4.5, you will still get the 5 points.

Re-reads:
Re-reads only count as 1 point unless you are re-reading the entire series in sequence. Example: Book 40 of Discworld only counts as 1 point when re-reading, unless you are also re-reading from book 1 to 39 in sequence.

Just a point to note, especially for South Africans. I just started reading The Slave Book by Rayda Jacobs, and noted that while it is nowhere listed as part of a series of which Eyes of the Sky was the first, I would recommend to readers that it be read as such, and maybe the author should consider marketing it in this way. The second book is certainly continuing the story of the making of Western Cape society from indigenous inhabitants, colonial settler and imported slaves. To conclude on a different point, but related point, I enjoyed the cameo appearance Cupido Kakkerlak made in Philida: 'n slaweroman, after making his debut in Bidsprinkaan: 'n ware storie

Hi Wayne, you can only use one series per book. So if you want to use The Wee Free Men you can either count it for the full Discworld series OR the Tiffany Aching sub-series. Not both.

For it to count as #30 in Discworld you'll need to have read books 19 - 29 in sequence as the last Discworld or your list was #18.
