Being a living experiment wasn’t part of the scientific career she’d planned for herself. Despite her sharp scientific mind and her degree in bio-molecular genetics, Dr. Ariel Jones hasn’t figured out how her life changed so much in a single day. Before she can blink and ask about what is going on, she’s being shot with a billion nanos and some very potent wolf blood. Now she can suddenly turn into a giant white wolf with the bloodlust of a starving animal. And she’s an alpha wolf…or so she is told by the even larger, very male, black wolf who was used to create her. Hallucination? She wishes. Whether human or wolf, Reed talks in her head and tells her how to handle things…or rather how to kill them…starting with the men who hold them all captive. Too bad he can’t tell her how to put her life back like it was. Admittedly, there are perks to being a werewolf, such as meeting sexy werewolf guys like Matthew Gray Wolf. It’s not like the science labs were overrun with sexy men in white coats. She also doesn’t mind learning about a side of herself she never knew existed. It's great changing into a real wolf whenever she wants, but being a living experiment wasn’t part of the scientific career she’d planned for herself. Neither was falling for the local werewolf alpha, but what else is a newbie werewolf caught in her burning time going to do? ABOUT THE NANO WOLVES SERIES Fans of werewolves romance will enjoy this new take on female werewolves who are created through genetic engineering. It also has enough humorous romantic comedy to keep those fans happy too.

All I want to say is, Just calling someone an Alpha does not make it so!

I was looking forward to this book. The idea was pretty original. But then, it crashed.

Repeatedly, Ariel is called an Alpha. Only apparently, everyone can still walk all over her and order her around. The false feeling of control is worse than actually not having any control.

The book is full of contradictions. And I feel that, now, that I have acquired a taste for real Alpha women, this one just falls short.

The misogyny, the sexual harassment and male chauvinism makes me grit my teeth!

I paid $3.99 for this book and I hate to say but it was no where near this price. This story just fell flat. It lacked any sort of intensity or depth. I never cared for any of the characters or the plot. It was just a pretty typical shifter read and reminded me of numerous others I've read. nothing memorable or impressive. Not a.series I will continue.

So EXCITING to be Large and In-Charge…

This first book in the Nano Wolves Series is a refreshing, humorous, action read about Shifters. The heroine, Dr. Ariel Jones, is a human geneticist who through unsolicited injections is forced into becoming a Shifter. Ariel doesn’t let this change in her life get her down, she embraces it with a take charge, don’t mess with me, she-Alpha attitude. Along with this change comes the introduction to Matthew Gray Wolf, alpha pack leader of another pack. It’s definitely a challenge, with some exciting times, for two alphas pursuing a relationship when both want to be in charge.

This is sure to be an amazing and enjoyable new refreshing Shifter series.

Ariel by Donna McDonald Review

Synopsis:

‘Matt grunted and smacked her ass as he passed her in a full-out run. “Hey! I killed a man for doing that, Matthew Gray Wolf. Don’t make me sic my wolf on you.” Behind her, she heard Reed laughing as she rubbed her butt.’

Nice Werewolf story, interesting concept!

“A man has to be deeply in love to let a woman drive his only vehicle.”

Title: Ariel

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy
My Rating: 2 Stars

Overview:

Despite her sharp scientific mind and her degree in bio-molecular genetics, Dr. Ariel Jones hasn’t figured out how her life changed so much in a single day. Before she can blink and ask about what is going on, she’s being shot with a billion nanos and some very potent wolf blood.

Now she can suddenly turn into a giant white wolf with the blood-lust of a starving animal.

My Review:

I was given a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would have to be 'bored'.

While the idea behind the main characters' transformation into a wolf was intriguing and not something I have seen done before, I just found myself entirely bored with the whole book. It just didn't have that extra 'bite' that I was hoping for. Instead, it came across as very monologue-ish and entirely distant.

Too bad, because it was a fine idea.

Clinical and perfunctory. The plot of this book is different and clever...it just doesn't deliver. Instead, it is unfocused and lacks cohesion with poorly written characters and a lagging story which is disappointing to say the least. The characters are unconnected and all proved to be immature with the constant "snorting" and five year old dialogue. Ariel and Matt were unappealing as were Brandi, Gareth, Heidi and Ryan. The only halfway redeeming character is Reed--note I said halfway. The so-called alpha challenge with the Black Wolf Pack is over before it begins and pretty generic. "A constant battle for control can make for a tiring relationship" and it certainly did in this story. Pass on this one. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 1.5 stars.

Despite not being an enthusiastic SciFi fan, nor of Werewolves for that matter, you may have noticed I am a Donna McDonald fan. This book is fantastic. I loved where the story took us and how Ariel's personality changed somewhat following her transformation, as well as how she dealt with the frustrations that she came across and I don't mean just in a sexual way ! It was also funny as are the rest of Donna's books. My husband gives me odd looks when I read them, for more than one reason due to my reactions. I thoroughly recommend this book, whether you are into shifters, werewolves or just plain Scifi. However, if you are like me, I hope you will enjoy it just as much as I did.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED WITH A BOOK IN MY LIFE! The promise, oh the promise, it held for the first few chapters -which fyi I read as an excerpt behind one of Robyn Peterman's witch series- but then everything just went downhill after that. Like, downhill while riding a fast wagon kinda downhill 😫. In a few pages after the breakout scene it just...ppffffloooppppp. It just became such a task to finish the page. It was so tedious to read 😭. This saddens me because I LOVE THE WHOLE IDEA OF IT! I don't know if it's the dialogue or the one-note flow but I couldn't keep on going. I. Could. Not.

So here's to hoping you'll enjoy it. Happy Reading! 🙂🍷

How Donna does it I just don't know, she can write anything I've decided and I'll enjoy it. As this is her first time writing a shifter book I wasn't sure how it would be. I'm mean I knew I would like it cause I really enjoy her writing. What I didn't expect was not being able to put it down. Every time I did have to stop I couldn't wait to get back to it,. I loved how she took everything that I love about a good shifter book but added her touch of humor which is one of my favorite things about her writing. I'm in love with this series can't wait to read more

OH MY! This was an amazing start to this series! Ariel is a total bad a$$. And I love how her and Matt's relationship is. Two alphas tend to bump heads a bit but they are making it work. I also love Reed. I hope to read more about him in the later books! I am about to start Brandi and Gareth's book and I am stoked! If you love paranormal romance you will love this book! Great job Donna!

Evil scientist turns research scientist into a werewolf. The premise sounds campy, but the story works due to the excellent character development of both the primary and secondary characters. As a big plus, Dr. Ariel turns into an alpha female werewolf, and doesn't collapse into mush when the alpha male crooks a finger.

I wanted to like this book. So much. I was looking forward to it for years. But the porn without plot and barely glued together plot didn't really give me a chance to like Ariel. Too bad, too.

Ariel

Pretty good reading. Love reading shifter romance action books. Didn't see this direction and where it was headed. Pretty good ending but now I have to find out what happens next. Highly recommend reading.

Nice differences

The author says the book has a nice twist because three women are turned into werewolves by science rather than by a bite. It is.
The better twist is tha the heroine here.turns into an alpha. Yes, this is a MF, not FF romances. How that plays out is the story. Heroine with agency.

I wanted to enjoy this book but it fell a little flat for me. I loved the idea of the book. Scientifically changed, an immediate connection to a wolf that is not the love interest, no 'insta love connection', and a female bad ass alpha. I did not like her as much as I wanted to. I thought she was whiny, indecisive, and to be a scientist she did not ask as many questions as I thought she should have.

There was some editing issues for me as well. Words missing, verbiage falling flat, sentence structure not making sense. Also, there was the 'i need blood work and to track the changes that are happening to me, to us, etc.' but never followed-up on. Little things like that.

Maybe if the author did some reworking of it the story would be better. It was just okay for me.

As readers we often get stuck in ruts. I have never had a desire to pick up a shifter book, I've read a few paranormal but it hasn't really been my thing. However this being said, I am a Donna McDonald fan and when I saw this new series I wanted to give it a try.

I can honestly say that it went beyond my wildest expectations. I could not put this book down and I loved the unique story-line the that goes between the characters. Ariel's strong Alpha character is the perfect fit for Matt who is the Alpha Leader in his Pack. The relationship is not only fun to read, but will pull at the heart strings. I can't wait to find out what will happen next in this series, and will be looking forward to reading more from this genera.

Blackraven's Review:

Ariel, the first book in Donna McDonald's new Nano Wolves series, is unlike anything I've ever read in the paranormal genre. Don't get me wrong, the women are wolf shifters, but part of what has intrigued me the most is how they became shifters. Ms. McDonald's twist is refreshing and sets her series apart from other shifter books I've read. Read More. . . http://www.blackravensreviews.com/aut...

While this is defiantly an "adult" age group book it is well written with interesting characters and an engaging story premise I don't think I have ever read a book that mixed nanobots and werewolves together it is definitely a fresh twist on the shifter  romance.

If you enjoy S.E. Smith or Lora Leigh you will enjoy this series, I can't wait to read Brandi and Heidi's stories. This review was originally posted on Books In Brogan

[Couldn’t finish, only 18% read.]

It was like someone was describing the events in schizophrenic monotone. (Mostly because there was multiple POVs with no breaks between, it just switched randomly and was massively disorientating)

The story was lifeless and the characters chemistry non-existent. Things just started happening with no reason and there was nothing to make me care at all about these characters and the shit sandwich they had just been served.

Forgettable and a waste of time starting this story.

Admittedly, there are perks to being a werewolf, such as meeting sexy werewolf guys like Matthew Gray Wolf. It’s not like the science labs were overrun with sexy men in white coats. An unusual paranormal story about shifters. The norm being they are either born or tuned werewolf. In Donna McDonald's world man's scientific advancements have made it possible for normal humans to be enfused with wolf blood and Nanobytes and turning them into werewolves. Such is what happened to Ariel and two others .

This in many ways is a scientific thriller with touches of romance. Donna builds her world of shifters and shows us her nano wolves. The women must learn how to survive with their new abilities and how to defend themselves from the scientist that want to study them.

My rating of "Ariel - Nano Wolves Book 1" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Read this probably about a month ago. At first I thought Ariel was going to end up with Reed, the wolf held captive in the lab, who can speak to her in her head. There is a connection there -- I mean, when a guy can communicate with you telepathically, of course there's a connection. But no, she ends up with someone different, who is introduced later in the story. It turns out that Reed is her alpha. In a way, he's her 'sire' (like in vampire stories) because Ariel was injected with a doctored version of his blood in order to make her a shifter, like him.

It's a bit strange to me because Reed tells her she's an alpha and now she's in charge of the other two women who, like her, got experimented on and are now werewolves. I thought alphas were always males, but apparently it's a different hierarchy and wasn't sufficiently explained. Never heard of a female alpha leading a pack on her own before.

As newly turned werewolves, Ariel and the other two women are constantly horny. Again, this is strange to me. I would have expected them to be constantly hungry due to the nanos in their blood working overtime to convert their cells or to help their body adapt to a higher metabolic rate or something. It felt like the horniness was just a convenient thing thrown into the story so that the author could include sex scenes. Plus, the addition of the nanos in their blood didn't seem to give Ariel or the other two ladies any additional abilities nor an edge over the natural-born werewolves, so why even emphasise the nanos? Could have just spliced Reed's DNA with theirs to create new werewolves.

I did like how the author explained how Ariel felt as a wolf and how she was grappling with this change in her life. But the romance fell flat for me and there wasn't much conflict or danger. The conflict is actually related to Reed and not to Ariel nor her eventual mate, so it felt flat and irrelevant to the couple. Reed, as an alpha seemed weak as he knew that his son wasn't managing his former pack well, but he hadn't done anything about it. He just kinda walked away to do his own thing, and now he was having to deal with the fallout. He also was oblivious to the deception going on around him, so as an alpha he was really extraordinarily ineffective.

The plotting really needed more work as the story needed to be centred more around Ariel and her mate. It was disappointing as a romance. As a werewolf story, it also failed because it was too simplistic and all the 'bad guys' were so easily defeated. There was no tension, the bad guys felt like caricatures in a children's cartoon -- full of swagger and overconfidence -- of course they'd get defeated.

Dr. Ariel Jones and two others became part of a science experiment without their consent. A shot of nanos and the blood of an enormous black wolf changed their lives forever. In her new life experiences, Ariel meets Matthew Gray Wolf, the alpha pack leader of another pack, and the two of them try to navigate their mutual interest in each other while both alphas’ deal with their instincts that insist they be in charge! There will definitely be fun times with this one! Grab your copy and watch the fur fly!!

I had purchased this book back in 2016. I recognized it as soon as I started to read it. Unfortunately, I must not have reviewed it back then. But the author is one of my favorites, so it was fun to read it again. My only complaint was that Ariel, a supposed brilliant scientist waking up strapped to the gurney, was amazingly slow at coming to the understanding of the true nature of what she herself had been working on! Even as Dr. Crane explained it to her, she didn’t really get it. She didn’t even seem aware that the huge black wolf was a shifter. But I enjoyed the story [again] and I think others will as well.

Dr Ariel Jones takes a new job but would never imagine the extreme change it will make to her life.
Dr Ariel Jones wrote a thesis in a mutated strand of the DNA unaware she herself carried it and did not know that she had been employed in Alaska because of these two facts. She wakes to find herself strapped on a gurney along with two other women with her boss standing over her explaining the experiment he was going to run on them. One by one they are sedated injected and put in a cage and Ariel wakes to find the light hurts her eyes and loud noise hurts her ears plus she has a strange male voice in her head telling her not to change until she is out of the cage and can free them all. When her boss and his technician return she turns into a wolf and kills them both then frees the other women and the large black wolf whose blood was used to change them.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I wish I could give this 4.5 or 4.75 stars rather than 5, but Goodreads (and Amazon) don't allow those.
Why not the full 5 stars? I am not an huge fan of what I'd call "soft porn". But that is just me. I am fully aware sex happens and aware that it tends to happen far more in younger relationships, but even then, not all sex is smoking hot, not all (in fact most do not) women orgasm through coitus, and painting this relationship this way, I feel, does a disservice to women who end up feeling less than because their love life isn't as fabulous. If you like this, you'll love the book.
As to the rest of the book, I feel it is well written. The female characters are well developed and strong. The basic premise is a mashup of fantasy and science fiction. And there are enough side characters to allow spinoffs for binge reading. I plan to read the sequels as I enjoyed the premise of the story.
