Since we can use as much or little from the title as we want :-)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments Just checking for April — I have three books that I’m reading with blue covers!

Anna K would count as blue 8 (character: Eleanor)
The Great Lenore would count as blue 0 (stand alone)
Mirror in the Sky would count as blue 9 (character: Nick)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Reading is going slower than hoped today, but I've read a few pages in my glasses on cover book, which is really not all that interesting and a bit of a draahaaag.

I'm almost a third through Disavow and will get an hour or two of reading in now which will hopefully bring me to at least the half-way point.

message 857: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments The Bride Test (The Kiss Quotient, #2) by Helen Hoang is on my list and is a yellow 2. Will see what else I've got later.

message 858: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Good morning!

Did not manage to finish my book yesterday, but as things are at the moment, I'm well on track to finish both this one and the glasses on cover book today.

The latter is starting to be so blergh and there's no story... just scenes and chapters lined up one after the other. I'm barely even paying attention to what I'm reading anymore. If it wasn't for a challenge, I would quit. But I'll persevere ;-)

message 859: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Come on, guys!

Where are those completion posts?? ;-)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments E - good luck finishing your next 2. Sorry the glasses book is so rubbish, surprising what we will read for challenges.

Work today has been a lot of phone calls. We're keeping people out of the surgery as much as we can. V odd not seeing people face to face.

message 862: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Can imagine! It makes for a bit of a change in your job!

I'm actually very happy not to have to see them face to face :-p And there aren't that many calls anymore either, which is great!

And thanks for the completion post! :-D

My hope is now that the glasses book is going to be cut short with some kind of preview of another book or whatever else is at the end of some freebies, so that I won't have to suffer through too much more of this utter ridiculousness.

message 863: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Here's a little on why the book sucks:

- There is an attempt at mystery with one of the characters, which is badly done if it involves the cop, and/or completely forgotten when something else happens.

- The time line is terrible. A chapter starts with something happening in the morning and just a few actions later, it is apparently already night time?! Not to mention the days of the week. I have no idea anymore what days any of these chapters take place as sometimes each chapter takes place at different times, and sometimes there are 3 chapters (for the 3 MCs) on the same time running parallel to the others.

- In order to deal with grief, pills are necessary. One cannot deal with it on one's own.

- Most characters are doormats.

- It's just scene after scene with no overall plot. I have no idea what the point of this is?

- The "ugly" character is constantly wallowing on how her hair is too frizzy and her wardrobe sucks - apparently she's never heard of hair products or clothes shopping - and how her friends are so much prettier than her.

message 864: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments E- Sorry the book is so boring!

I had every intention yesterday to read but spent the entire day sleeping. 18 hours. Whoopsie. ER life is not so fun right now :(

I finished Children of Blood and Bone though! SOOO good. Yeah, I realize everyone else read it two years ago, ha. It would not have been a book I'd have enjoyed two years ago, though! I have the sequel ordered and on it's way! In the meantime, I have One Day in December to finish as well. It's not that exciting. I'm not sure I'm really into contemporarys at the moment. I'll try to finish it for the challenge though :)

Completion post to come momentarily!

message 865: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Oooh yes, ER life is probably horror these days :-/

If it's any consolation, I passed on Children of Blood and Bone. So you aren't the only to not have read it two years ago ;-)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments E- It was so much better than I thought it would be :) If you do pick it up one day, I highly recommend the audiobook! The accents and chanting make the story come to life.

message 868: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments Hmm seems we really need 4s don't we? I'll look through my shelf and try to find a quick read for today rather than Day in December! Considering I don't really want to pick it up anyway :P

message 869: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments 4 or 9 seem like a good idea at the moment, yes. But anything, really! ;-)

Raven has at least one 4 covered with the books she's done - just waiting for the completion posts to see where else they all fit to put them in the best spot.

message 870: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'll see what I've got hiding. Hoping to finish at least one more.

I haven't read children of blood and bone either. Might add the audio to my list.

Sorry work is manic! look after yourself

message 871: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments Okay great :) I'd forgotten about Fawkes! It's a little long; I can't seem to purchase any short books lately, ha. However, I'll try to read it today and tomorrow to cover the other 4 in that earliest hand :)

message 872: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Good luck! Hope you are feeling better after many hours sleep.

I've got 2 books I'm hoping to finish by tomorrow evening! Time to get off here and get on with them

====
As a final note on the wonderfulness of this book. The pretty female MCs get their happy ending whereas the supposedly ugly duckling of course remains single without even a hint of a fling in sight. And this is written as chick lit by a woman? Wow...

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Fingers crossed for you!

We're trying to call everyone booked in next week this afternoon so that is clear for emergencies, so likely to be a bit busy unfortunately. Still planning to get Ender's game finished though.

message 880: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments How are you enjoying Ender's Game? It's one I've had on my TBR for a while now as well but somehow I always pass over it when it's time for my next read.

The cozy is quick so far! So even if I do get some work this afternoon (it's been a quiet day so far), I'll be able to finish.

message 881: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'm enjoying the audio, worth picking it up and giving it a go. Has been on my radar for a while and finally reading it.

Quick cozy is a good move for this afternoon! Fingers crossed it stays quiet for you

I had read this in physical format last year and was disappionted butsomeone recommended theaudiobook which was better.

Unfortunately I didn't quite get into the last book and as I'm still not feeling well I have decided to DNF it.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Aw that's a shame! Hopefully your next read will be better again! And hope you're going to feel better again soon :-)

Eta: Can you also add Children of Blood and Bone to your Uno shelf, please? Thanks!

message 888: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Raven,

quick question. The book you DNF'ed, was that the Christmas Cruise book you had on your shelf before today? Because you didn't post a completion post for it and it has disappeared (and we were so hoping for that blue cover to avoid having to switch stuff around haha ;-))

COUNTDOWN to start of April

You have another 12 hours to get your final completion posts in! Anything posted after the countdown has gone to 0 cannot be used for the March hands, so please keep that in mind.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I'm going to finish up my book now, then head to bed.

I'll whip up a story tomorrow morning when I get into the office. I have an idea already brewing, so it should be a quick thing.

Since we have a few titles to choose from with potentially more coming, I'll use the best ones for a slightly nutty story :-)

message 894: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Actually, I'll finish the last few pages tomorrow morning. Don't have much left and I'm early at the office these days.
