Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments I love Stephen King books, there are quite a few good ones that aren't over 300 pages.

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Ambi wrote: "What are your favorite books? It may also come in handy while reading for the Reverse Card."

some of my favourite books include the Wayward Children series (Every Heart a Doorway is the first novel in the series), obviously all the Harry Potter books, Close to Home (first book of the DI Adam Fawley series which I sadly haven't continued yet), The Girl on the Train, The Poet X, Eliza and Her Monsters, We Are Okay and many many more.
some books might (depending on which edition you read) also work for blue covers Wonder (Wonder, #1) by R.J. Palacio My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel

btw, an easy way to find which books your friends have read that you are also interested in is on their profile. just click 'More' and then 'Compare Books'.
And if you look at a certain book's page and scroll down a little bit you will see which of your friends have read/rated it before. Daniela and I will double check each finished book anyway to make sure it meets the requirements and to see if it might work for Reverse, so don't worry about it too much :)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Ooooohhhh I’m thinking of reading Eliza and Her Monsters next month! I might be able to do that for a reverse! I’m hoping to commit to more things on the first of the month once I get my Book Tac Toe card in my other reading group!

My favorites books are probably The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, My Sister’s Keeper, The Rosie Project, and Me Before You.

oh. my. god! I think I gave My Sister's Keeper 5 stars as well! I read it years ago though, way before goodreads was actually a thing (for me at least. and I put The Seven Husbands on my 'uno colours' list on scribd since it's obviously green! I don't think it'll work for February's green cards, but that's okay. I'll just save it for March or April :)

message 55: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Taylor Jenkins Reid generally seems to have good colour covers hah!

message 56: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments I absolutely loved loved loved Daisy Jones and the Six. Can’t wait to read her other books the next few months.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

Recently I've been really in love with the Caraval series. I also love The Book Thief and Mosquitoland.

I'm hoping to start the Fault in Our Stars pretty soon- this has been on my TBR forever so now is finally the time ;)

message 58: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Evelyn Hugo was hands down the best book I read in 2019. So good! I recommend it to everyone all the time! I did the audiobook of Daisy Jones and the Six, and also read One True Loves. Taylor Jenkins Reid is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Forever, Interrupted is on my 2020 TBR but my copy is not the blue cover so that is disappointing for UNO purposes.

message 59: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Also, I definitely read My Sister’s Keeper around 10 years ago. Maybe I’ll reread it one of these days.

And I really enjoyed The Fault In My Stars... that one has a blue cover too!

l listened to the audiobook of Daisy Jones in 2019 and really enjoyed it as well. when we found out who the 'interviewer' was? wow!

Natalie wrote: "I'm hoping to start the Fault in Our Stars pretty soon- this has been on my TBR forever son ow is finally the time ;)"

I keep saying that lol, but I also still haven't read it 🙈
It won't work as a cover colour as it's not 50+% blue, but it definitely works for Reverse :)

Okay so I guess I'll definitely read it once we actually have a green card I could use it for :)

message 62: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia Last year my most memorable reading was the raven cycle, I really liked the series,l. The fault in our stars in one of my all time favourite as well.

message 63: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments I have My Sisters Keeper on my tbr for years now! I really should give it a go next month

message 64: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments I’ll take this opportunity to start the Raven cycle. I’ve heard so much about it. :)

message 65: by Jen (new)

Jen (book_worm23) | 229 comments The Raven Cycle series is good. My favourite books might be the Darker Shade of Magic series, well maybe The Queen's Thief Series, and Great Library series are also some of my favourite reads, at least I've gone back to read them all on multiple occasions (okay so I have several favourites).

My first read for UNO is going to be Tunnel of Bones, which I'm excited to start.

yay, we have our first official planned book! I'm personally not really into the paranormal sub-genre, but I am quite interested in City of Ghosts. I might give it a try for uno since you've already read it, Jen :)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I just started One Of Us Is Next and plan to finish it and So Close To Being The Sh*t, Y’all Don’t Even Know by Friday at midnight. Not sure what my first book of the challenge will be yet! I’m so excited and am pretty sure I know what I need to know! Of course I’m sure I might have questions along the way!

message 69: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments I just finished One of Us is Next! It was pretty good. I was shocked by the twisted ending. But I’ll leave you to that. Don’t wanna spoil it for you. :D

I have no idea what my first book will be either. It won’t be a problem since I’m pretty flexible with all the audiobooks I listen to while working.

message 70: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Good thing you guys already read One Of Us Is Next, now I can definitely use it for reverse ;) was saving it for the challenge as it's probably a quick read

message 71: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments I have 3 hard exams coming up in February/beginning of March, so I hope I'll get to read at least 3-4 books :/

message 72: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Yes I still have it, and I already read it ;) I'm talking about the second book which came out this January :p

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Daniela wrote: "Yes I still have it, and I already read it ;) I'm talking about the second book which came out this January :p"

yeah I know I deleted my post right after I posted it when I realized my mind was playing games with me lol

message 74: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 336 comments I don't think I'm going to be much help on the reverse - I haven't even heard of the books you guys are talking about! :-)

I am looking forward to the challenge starting - not sure what I'm going to read first, though. I usually have a kindle book and an audio book going at the same time - reading when I can and listening when I can sit down and read.

message 75: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Sandy I’m the same with an audiobook and then also a physical paper book or ebook!

message 76: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments same as me :) I always listen to audiobooks while walking my dog, and then have either a physical or ebook on the go for whenever, sometimes I even start both a physical and an ebook at the 'same' time!

message 77: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments Just to clarify, can we use graphic novels in this challenge?

message 78: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books, Graphic Novels, Manga, Cook Books, Plays and Poetry books can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com or more than 3 hours of audio using a reputable website (e.g. audible, overdrive)

message 79: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments Thanks Lau Maia. :)

message 80: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Thanks Lau ;)

It generally seems like most graphic novels do not work, especially since there's not much text + it's harder to verify word count.

I was never aware there are so many spam posts/accounts going around on GR until like... three weeks ago?

message 85: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Exactly one way to go until the challenge starts!! I hope everyone is excited.
I'll be going out tonight, so for sure will stay home tomorrow and read all day once I'm up :p

message 86: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments 20 hours left until uno officially starts!

I'm gonna start the audiobook of Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire (#5 of the Wayward Children series) and also... The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley from my elibrary I guess. Both work for colour cards :)

message 87: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments I'm gonna start reading Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell . Is this blue enough? I can use it for Blue 8.

message 88: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Ambi wrote: "I'm gonna start reading Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Is this blue enough? I can use it for Blue 8."

Yes! Perfect! Very ambitious too 🙈 Let us know if you come across any N or V characters too so we can switch something around if needed :)

message 89: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments Haha ambitious? More like procrastinating to read this forever. :)

Will do. There are soooo many characters. It will be really sad if they don’t have a V character.

Quick question: we need to finish a hand before go in to the next hand. But what if we are done with the specific books before we reach the hand?

Actually, we don't need to finish hands in order. That's why we wanted you to claim coloured cards so we get them out of the way as soon as possible since they're harder to find/fill, + why we got that table on the right side of our spreadsheet.

We only have to be worried about earlier hands being finished if we don't have enough to cover the whole month. If that's the case near the end of the month we can still move books around from later hands to earlier ones.

Also, yes ambitious! It's a veeery long book, and I'm definitely never gonna read it lol.

message 91: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments Great thanks that makes sense! :)

message 92: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia Ok! I think I'll start with Poirot e os 4 Relógios tomorrow, it will be 8 am here :D

message 93: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Whoop, the challenge has officially started!!
I'm off to quidditch practice now, and then will pick up my first book for the month :) happy reading everyone!

message 94: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia Quidditch practice? Please tell me more

message 95: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments Happy reading everyone!

Fun fact, I listened to the audiobook of Quidditch Through The Ages twice in a row last/this week because I didn't want to start anything new before uno lol

message 96: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments I have been reading graphic novels for the same reason. :D

message 97: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia The Q&A thread is closed. If a book is tagged Childrens and YA in MPG do we still need a word count verification? Or can it be used?

message 98: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Question: for colored books, do we go by a picture we took of the book or the stock photo of the edition we are reading on Goodreads? I’m assuming maybe because the lighting in my house isn’t the greatest, I’m not getting the same percentages on some books I’m looking at reading. For example, The Last Mrs Parrish. I haven’t even looked to see if it fits our colored cards otherwise but I’m having a head time determining if it counts as blue.

message 99: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I also can’t seem to figure out how to post a photo in here...

message 100: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia I think you should look at the same edition (with the same isbn) that's here on goodreads
