Liz M 20.10 - Goodreads Feature - Elizabeths' Task:
Read a book listed in the "Readers Also Enjoyed" section on the book page of any of the 2014 RwS Group reads: Winter 13/14 Group Reads, Spring 2014 Group Reads, Summer 2014 Group Reads, OR Fall 2014 Group Reads

Elizabeth (Alaska) The Readers Also Enjoyed section is on the upper right side of each book page. The section title can be clicked to open up all of the options (ex: Tenth of December).

The lists are very fluid, and books that appear today, might not be there by this weekend, even. I suggest you post in this thread as soon as you see a book you think is even a remote chance of your wanting to read for this task - even if you think you won't get to it until late in the challenge, if at all. You will have reserved your options.

I have been looking at the list when you click on the header, and apparently there is a different selection if you click through the arrows. When posting below, please let me know if you clicked through the arrows or clicked the header. Thank you!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2598 comments okay I chose The Crystal Cave from Summer 2014 group read and I want to read "Guuenevere, Queen of the Summer Country from the Reader's Also Enjoyed list.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Jayme, is that this book?

Guinevere

I don't see that on the list for The Crystal Cave.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Jayme, I'm sorry. Liz has pointed out to me that clicking through the arrows gives a different result that clicking on the Header.

You are good to go with Guenevere.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments I'd like to lock in Astonish Me for The Goldfinch

Also, can we read more than one book on the list for an individual group read, or just one book per group read book?

Tanya (xallroyx21) | 198 comments The one I would like to read is:

Using The Goldfinch's Header--The Lowland

You're OK on The Goldfinch titles.

Am I understanding A.J. Filkry was on Orfeo?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Tanya wrote: "The one I would like to read is:

Ooo, I'm glad that one is back. I had it penciled in, and it disappeared on me. You're good with that one!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Claire wrote: "Revolutionary Road suggests The Assistant - is that one hood to go? Thanks!"

You're good on that one.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2598 comments if we wanted to do this task more than once, do we need to verify all our books now?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "if we wanted to do this task more than once, do we need to verify all our books now?"

No. If you decide in January you want to look at the lists again, then you are free to do so. You do need to post here as soon as you think you will want to read a title, because, well, they sometimes go away.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2598 comments okay,

Paula | 163 comments From 20,000 Leagues there is a connection to A Journey to the Center of the Earth. My question is that the linked book is an illustrated adaptation of the Jules Verne novel. Does this mean the true "Journey" by Verne wouldn't work?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Karen Michele wrote: "I'd like to lock in Astonish Me for The Goldfinch

Sorry, I missed the question part. Yes, as many books per group reads title and you can fit in the challenge is fine.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Paula wrote: "From 20,000 Leagues there is a connection to A Journey to the Center of the Earth. My question is that the linked book is an illustrated adaptation of the Jules Verne novel. Does this mean the tru..."

You are correct that The Journey to the Center book is not the Verne title, but an adaptation. The adaptation by Howard J. Schwach is OK, but not the Verne title.

You're good on that one Theresa.

Cory Day (cors36) | 1205 comments I've gone through and looked for ones I own or have out of the library, so can I check the following please?

From Tenth of December: Bobcat and Other Stories
From Tess of the D'Urbervilles: Cold Comfort Farm
From Revolutionary Road: Dog Soldiers or Housekeeping
From Wool Omnibus: Ancillary Justice
From A Constellation of Vital Phenomena: Bobcat and Other Stories (in case the other link doesn't work) or Land of Love and Drowning
From The Bone People: Moon Tiger

Also, may as well point out this group read:
From Waterland: Restoration

I think I need to read the books I own - this list is way longer than I expected ;) Thanks!!!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments I'd like to have Pascali's Island approved for Waterland.

Barry Unsworth lived to be 82, also, just for the good of the order;)

I also have a some more questions.

Can we use books that have been approved for other members?

Will we be able to claim combo points for this on other tasks? For example, if I use the Unsworth book for the elder's task, can I claim this as a combo? You didn't say we couldn't in the task, but it adds another level of complication. Maybe the computer program takes care of this, but just curious.

Lagullande | 1131 comments Hi Liz
Please may I reserve the following(all via the header link):

From Waterland - Restoration
From Orfeo - How to be both
From The Goldfinch - A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, Americanah andFourth of July Creek

This is one of those tasks that causes me to add another mountain to my TBR wishlist!

Thanks. Andrea

Elizabeth (Alaska) Karen Michele wrote: "Can we use books that have been approved for other members?"

Yes. All books are for all members. We're doing it this way because the lists are so fluid, that pre-loading titles didn't seem the most efficient way this time.

Karen Michele wrote: "Will we be able to claim combo points for this on other tasks? For example, if I use the Unsworth book for the elder's task, can I claim this as a combo? "

Yes, this task can be used for combos.
