PattyMacDotComma The classic Graham Greene novel, The Quiet American, is up there with my favourites. Vietnam in the early 1950s - what a mix of people and a mess of politics and war, plus a love story.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1025 comments I can now post my review of Sea Storm Sea Storm (Underwater Investigation Unit, #3) by Andrew Mayne by Andrew Mayne. This is the third book in the Underwater Investigation Unit series. The memorable first chapter sets the stage for what is to come. The well-written story and the incredible characters in a unique setting, combined with action that is astonishing, culminates in an amazing conclusion. Yes, the action was over-the-top, but I enjoyed it.

PattyMacDotComma This book is unique. Not just kind of different - unique. Naoki Higashida wrote a memoir The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism, which is not only informative but entertaining! For a kid who couldn't "communicate", he sure learned well, and he has a good sense of humour, too.

There are so many versions of A Christmas Carol that is is hard to say how they compare to the book. Some are closer than others. The book is good. Dickens was able to add a lot of detail and set the scene really well for such a short book. I don't often enjoy classics; I tend to find them overly dramatic and the really flowery language doesn't work well for me. However, this is one of the few that I enjoy.

If you haven't seen it, The Man Who Invented Christmas was really good. It is a movie about Charles Dickens and the writing of A Christmas Carol.
