PattyMacDotComma This is an unusual addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series for children by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara. Louise Bourgeois was a troubled, unique artist who created disturbing sculptures.

Crystal | 72 comments Storm Front - It's not my usual type of book to read, but it has such great reviews and I know if I like it it's the first in a long series. Also, I think I have a friend who would enjoy it and maybe we can read the series together if I like it and recommend it to her.

PattyMacDotComma I really enjoyed The Crossing, the first of Aussie author B. Michael Radburn's mystery series about a park ranger escaping his grief by taking a posting in Tasmania. It's frying pan into the fire stuff, except it's so bl**dy freezing that the fire might be welcome. Good read!

I have started Reliquary. It is good so far. It took me a little bit to remember all the players from the first book.

I'm also starting A Caller's Game today for review and I'm slowing inching my way through Beginners: The Joy and Transformative Power of Lifelong Learning by reading a little each night at bedtime.

Sagnik Bose (rickbose) | 8 comments I just finished All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

Here is my review
All the Light We Cannot See All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Instead of me reading it to you, you can read it to me"
This novel oscillates between the present day and all the previous years that have lead to it. It follows a boy Werner and a blind girl named Marie Laure. How their lives have shaped and what draws them nearer to each other every day.
Werner is an orphan who is the typical german brainwashed by Hitler's Youth. Marie represents 'the pure' as opposed to Hitler's derided version of it.

One of the best things about this novel is the relationships.
Papa and his ma Cherie are the best father-daughter duo, both look out for each other and are the best of friends, but by a curious turn of events they are separated. With her great uncle Etienne, Marie is like an angel who teaches him to live again and enjoy the small joys of being alive.
Werner on the other hand shares a deep connection with his sister. Jutta is like the voice of reason and morality in his mind as he sees unspeakable horrors inflicted on the offenders because of him. Although Werner finally listens to this voice of reason and comes out victorious in his internal battle of right and wrong.
And of course Major Von Rumpel and the sea of flames, his relentless search for a final cure.

It is really interesting how the author concludes with Michael and how he can 'always begin again' in his game Warlords . Overall Doerr has gifted us with a bittersweet novel with imperfect characters in an imperfect world but with inherent goodness in all.
