Mystic (mystify) I'm finally done with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1) by Douglas Adams . What a terrible book! Never thought that this would be my first ever 1 star read.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I'm now reading And Then There Were None And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie by Agatha Christie to get me out of the reading slump caused by Hitchhiker's.

PattyMacDotComma As a nostalgic break from the 21st century, I revisited the well-loved children's classic The Velveteen Rabbit Or, How Toys Become Real written by Margery Williams Bianco nearly a century ago. What an excellent visit that was!

PattyMacDotComma In spite of the title, After The Carnage is NOT a grisly thriller but a mixed collection of short stories by talented indigenous Aussie author Tara June Winch, who won the prestigious Miles Franklin award for her latest novel, The Yield. These are urban, international, and varied.

I've read all 6 of Jane Austen's finished novels. The best place to start depends on your tastes. Many Austen heroines are in their late teens or early 20s so marriage is an enormous topic.
Most people start with Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen because it has wittier conversation and far more family drama.
I liked it as well but my favorite is Persuasion by Jane Austen - which has an older heroine, in her late 20s, and is about second chance love.
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen compares an older sister's rational common sense and a middle sister's preference to act driven only by her feelings.
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen is about a teenaged female's first social adventure away from her country life and how her imagination goes wild. It's somewhat of a parody of gothic horror books popular at Jane's time.
Emma by Jane Austen is about a young woman who is rich enough that her marriage isn't the main topic on her mind and she meddles in others' lives because she knows best.
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen is the most serious family drama novel and the one novel that I believe is under appreciated.

Kristie | 5928 comments I just finished Anxious People Anxious People by Fredrik Backman . It was good, but it wasn't my favorite. Here's my review.

I'm about 1/3 into The Lake House The Lake House by Kate Morton , which is really good so far but it does jump around a bit, and I'm starting Don't Look for Me Don't Look for Me by Wendy Walker .
