PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Aussie author Terence J. Quinn's The Scoop is a rip-roaring modern pirate story that may make you rethink what fun it would be to sail around the world. Many readers have loved it, so I feel like a traitor!

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I do enjoy Aussie Emma Viskic's deaf detective, Caleb Zelic, his deaf community, his Aboriginal extended family, and the harrowing escapades he gets caught up in in spite of his best intentions.
Darkness for Light is the third in the series.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments I was very pleased to see that Wollongong City Libraries had the Bolinda audio version of The Department of Sensitive Crimes by Alexander McCall Smith available via Borrowbox, so I could drive and do chores while listening. I’m sure I wasn’t laughing out loud quite so much when I read the hard-copy, which means Saul Reichlin must be an excellent narrator.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments # 2 in Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X series, The Nowhere Man is probably better than #1, and I can see it becoming addictive in a suspend-all-disbelief-and-hold-on-for-a-wild-ride kind of way.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I am a firm fan of Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec. I love visiting the fictional village of Three Pines, although it does seem to have a lot of homicides! How the Light Gets In is my favourite in the series so far.

Carolyn | 9836 comments My review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson, written in 1938 and republished recently. It's quite a charming little story, although a couple of misogynist and racist comments threw me and reminded me that societal views were somewhat different back then.
