Rainbow Colors by words&pictures is a cute little book for very young kids to enjoy with an older friend to help them find the things that are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

This is a poignant but also uplifting story about a South Korean teenager dying of an ageing disease. Not mushy and often humorous. Originally published in Korean in 2011, it's been translated for re-release.

American author Sari Rosenblatt's collection of eight short stories, Father Guards the Sheep, has a distinctly Anne Tyler feel (and that's a compliment).A very enjoyable read.

Jennifer just wanted to kill someone, make the world a better place, but Judy Fitzwater's aspiring murder mystery writer, who was Dying to Get Published, had a lot of (amusing) trouble getting her act together in real life.

Frederik Backman's thought-provoking short novella, The Deal of a Lifetime is about a meeting between a somewhat estranged father and son that happens to take place on Christmas Eve. Loved it!

Kitchen Sink Drama by Aussie author, Paul ConnollyIn this collection, there are little dramas that will strike a chord with lots of readers. I was tickled to see my own in there (Little Universes) and one that perfectly describes my husband (and probably many others) in the kitchen (The Trauma Cleaner).
While it’s a bit late to recommend this as a Christmas gift, it would be the ideal way to spend those Christmas book vouchers.

Tweet-length "fiction". I love, love, love wise sayings, witticisms, simple fun. I am too wordy - these guys are not. A Small Fiction by brothers James Mark Miller and Jefferson Miller is a sheer delight. Funny, clever, excellent!

John Lennon by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara is a beaut little kids' book about his life and the Beatles. This is a lovely little tribute to the musical genius we lost to a gunman 40 years ago this month. 40 years!
