Alex Cantone | 982 comments Read for a challenge, The Night Agent by Matthew Quirk The Night Agent by Matthew Quirk (a handy "Q" for A-Z authors), turned out to be a stylish political thriller. 4★

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments A Small Fiction by James Mark Miller with illustrations by his brother Jefferson, could be a quick read, or you could tease out the joy of it by just reading a few stories each day. They are very short, but so succinct, they get the message across in just a few lines. There are lots of laughs...
Highly recommended, 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I've not yet been disappointed with anything Rachel Joyce writes, and Miss Benson's Beetle is no exception. A wonderful, laugh-out-loud, tear-in-the-eye read.

Jeanette | 400 comments Wolfe Island by Lucy Treloar

Not often I am disappointed with a read, however, this book annoyed the life out of me and it was hard to be objective with the review.

3 stars and for me this was a push

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments What a great way to introduce kids to some of the classics by the much-loved Charles Dickens! I think A World Full of Dickens Stories by Angela McAllister would make an excellent gift.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I knew I'd enjoy a visit to C.J. Sansom's 16th century London, but by golly it was terrifying in Revelation!

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished and reviewed The Bridge On The River Kwai by Pierre Boulle which has been described as a 'classic war novel' . I absolutely loathed it, one star, itemised review of WHY I loathed it. Just 175 pages which felt like torture. It is an insult to any veteran who was actually a POW on the death railway in my opinion.

If anyone is even considering this stinker, please reconsider; there are many better books about this sad period of WWII. The Railway Man for a start, just off the top of my head.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I'm really enjoying listening to audiobooks as I do chores, and I often find that the narrator brings something to the book that I didn't get from reading it myself. This is certainly so for Ulli Birve's wonderful reading of Lucy Treloar's brilliant debut novel, Salt Creek.
5★s from me

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments My new favourite book! Becoming Duchess Goldblatt: A Memoir is funny, poignant, witty, unique. The anonymous author shares her real, broken life and the wise tweets of her 81-year-old Twitter alter-ego.

"People often come to me seeking the true meaning of life, but I find they’re usually satisfied with half a sandwich." DG
