I finished reading Peter Swanson's Rules for Perfect Murders aka Eight Perfect Murders. This book needs to come with a warning label at the very beginnng.
If you're planning to read any of the following books, don't read Swanson's -- he totally gives the plot (including the reveal) away on each one:
The Red House Mystery, by AA Milne
Malice Aforethought, by Anthony Berkeley Cox
The ABC Murders, by Agatha Christie
Double Indemnity, by James M. Cain
Strangers on a Train, by Patricia Highsmith
The Drowner, by John D. MacDonald
The Secret History, by Donna Tartt
More unforgivable, he also gives away the show, ending and all, of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

Oh, Renee, I can so relate. Our book group read The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley in December, and I was ready to chuck it by page 30. I truly wanted to scream before it was all over.

Slow horses #4, recommend you read the series in order. If you're not familiar with the Slough House/slow horses series there are lots of reviews to explain. This might be the best of the series which means very good indeed. There's a chase scene in the middle of the story, told from 4 different perspectives, which goes on for 30 or 40 pages that is just amazing. 5 stars, highest recommendation.

I've just finished reading Portrait of a Murderer: A Christmas Crime Story by Anne Meredith, from 1933. Regular readers of older crime/mystery fiction might recognize another of her pen names (in real life she's Lucy Beatrice Malleson) -- Anthony Gilbert.

I just love that Mick Herron series!

This is the 18th book in the Charlie Parker series, but it's actually a prequel that introduces us to the former cop turned independent investigator. The book works fine as a standalone.
Entertaining thriller. 3.5 stars

Sam Acquillo #5, OK to read as a stand-alone. In a sailboat, seeking shelter from an approaching storm, Sam, Amanda and Eddie the dog seek shelter in a small closed inn on an island off Long Island. In doing so they land smack dab in the middle of a huge financial crime. Well done mystery/adventure story part of a very likeable series.
