Laura, I'm planning to read the Catwoman book as I love Sarah J Maas. They are the only two I'll read from the series as I'm not a lover of Batman and Superman.

Jo, it does get better. It is slow to start but I did end up really enjoying it.

I started Kingdom of Souls (Kingdom of Souls, #1) by Rena Barron and it's my first DNF of the year. It was so slow and I've struggled for four days just to read 50 pages so I'm going to try something else.

I finished Oath Bound (Unbound, #3) by Rachel Vincent and I loved it. Such a great ending to the series. That’s another series finished.

Up next I’ll be reading House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas this one will probably take me a while as it’s a huge book.

WOW! I don't know how you managed that. This book is huge haha. I don't get a lot of time to read mid-week because of work so I probably won't read much until the weekend.

Laura ☾ | 873 comments I read very fast haha! I think this one took me maybe 10-11 hours so I just read at night over the two nights !

I'm still reading Crescent City. I stopped to read an ARC for an author friend. I can't tell you about it yet as they haven't announced or added it to goodreads so all I'll say it it's amazing and can't wait to tell you all about it when I can.

I'm now back to reading Crescent City and I'm absolutely loving it so far. I love Sarah J Maas' books.

message 64: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) Ohhh can't wait to hear about the other book Kay! Glad you're enjoying Crescent City! I had it pre-ordered, but then I cancelled before it came. I still haven't finished Kingdom of Ash (been on a break from it) so I knew I wouldn't be in the mood to read it until later on in the future. I know it will be good though!

I'll be able to tell you all next month. It's legit killing me because it was sooooo good haha.

I might have more time to read soon as I'm expecting work might be closed soon. I'm completely distracting myself by reading from the craziness going on in the world right now.

message 66: by Brittany (new)

Next month eh, good to know!

I expect your work will close too Kay. Working in said craziness and trying not to get stuck working way too much overtime is my world right now. Enjoy the break when you get one!

It took me almost the entire month but I've finally finished House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and I loved it. I did feel like it was a little bit too long for a first book of a series but it was still amazing.

message 75: by Sonnie (new)

Sonnie (sonnie2006) Question. You've read all of SJM books right, Kay? What would you rate the Crescent City series so far (I know only the first book is out, but just by going off of it). For me ACOTAR is my favorite over TOG, so I was curious as to where this new series will fall.

Honestly, it wasn't my favourite so far - but then again in neither of her other series was the first book my favourite! It definitely has the potential though!

I can finally.... finally.... FINALLY tell you all about the secret book that I read. My favourite author in the entire world, Jennifer L Armentrout, wrote her first ever epic fantasy novel and she wanted it to be a super secret surprise release. It is out now and let me tell you it's my favourite of her books... and my favourite book of the year so far. If you love fantasy I highly recommend this one. It's amazing!! From Blood and Ash (Blood And Ash, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I finished The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern and while I enjoyed it it wasn't as amazing as I was expecting. So many people were raving about this book and I just thought it was okay. Erin's writing style is so beautiful though.

Sometimes all that hype makes it hard for a book to live up to expectations.
Still you had a month of good books!

So although my challenge this year is to get my TBR down I’ve decided to re-read a favourite series of mine before the release of the next book. There’s 4 books to get through before the next one releases early June so my plan is I have to read 2 unread books in between them.

So I’ve finished Bitter Sweet Love (The Dark Elements, #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Now reading The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg

Nice Kay, and rereads can be lovely! I still need to read that series too...

Super curious about The Kingdom, tell me all about it and whether I will love it or not

I will definitely keep you updated.

I finished The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg and I really enjoyed it. It was very different from what I was expecting. Not a retelling at all but a kind of dystopia/sci-fi set in a futuristic Disney type theme park where the princesses are part-android. It was also quite thriller/murder mystery as well so a bit of a mash up I f genres. It was really interesting and I’d quite like her to wrote a sequel to this as it could definitely be taken further.

Up next: Jane by April Lindner we will see how I go with this one as it’s a retelling of Jane Eyre and although I’ve started Jane Eyre about 5 times I still have yet to get through it.

message 91: by Teodora (new)

Teodora | 359 comments Now The Kingdom sounds really good! Glad you enjoyed it!

That sounds even better than I expected Kay. Definitely want that one.

Hmm, see if a retelling works better for you! I haven't read Jane Eyre either but I intend to sometime

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I think you'd really like it Britt. I wasn't loving it at first but it was so intriguing I just couldn't put it down. It's a super quick read as well as it's told in a mixture of prose, articles and interview transcripts it was so good.

I'm enjoying the retelling so far. I am determined to get through Jane Eyre at some point. It has been years since I've tried it so maybe I'd enjoy it more now. My reading tastes have changed a lot in the past few years.

message 95: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I've finished Jane by April Lindner which I really enjoyed. It's definitely made me want to give Jane Eyre another go at some point. It was really great, if a little bit predictable in the storyline.

This isolation is doing wonders for my TBR haha.

I started The Isle of the Lost (Descendants, #1) by Melissa de la Cruz but as much as I adore everything Disney, and I did enjoy the movies based on these books, I'm just not feeling it. It's a bit meh. I'm at page 50 so I'm gonna give it another 50 and see how I feel after that.

message 96: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
So I DNF'd Isle of the Lost. It was just too slow and aimed at too young an audience for me. Oh well... that's got 3 books off my TBR at least haha

I've finished A Mad Zombie Party (White Rabbit Chronicles, #4) by Gena Showalter which is also finishing another series .... woop!!!

I've just started Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge which I'm really enjoying so far.

message 97: by HeatherH (new)

Too bad about not enjoying Isle of the Lost.

Yay to finishing Alice in Zombieland! How did you enjoy the last book?! HeatherH its a good series, they were 4 star books for me.

Cruel Beauty looks good.

This really is doing wonders for your tbr!

message 99: by HeatherH (new)

HeatherH (bkwrm85) | 802 comments Thanks Brittany! It's a goal for this year to try to finally get to them!

Heather, I loved the entire Alice in Zombieland series. It is such a great series, I highly recommend them.

I finished Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge and gave it 3 stars. I'm quite conflicted over it. I think it was a really good retelling and the author's writing style was amazing but I don't know I found it a bit boring. I don't know whether it's because I've read loads of Beauty and the Beast retellings already but I just found it predictable. I've definitely read better retellings of this tale. Due to this I don't think I'm going to bother reading the rest of the series.

I'm starting All the Ever Afters The Untold Story of Cinderella's Stepmother by Danielle Teller next
