Where Does This Book Fit?

The synopsis describes this as coming-of-age, so it's a bildungsroman. It also says its set when she's in college so she might be in her 20's?

Thanks.
Mel wrote: "Any idea where I could fit The Thirty-Nine Steps?"It was published in the twentieth century. (Well, this edition wasn't, but it's harder to find one that was actually published in the 20th century, and this fits the spirit of the prompt anyway)
The author's also written more than 20 books.
You could also count this as a three-word title.
So, I put Gingerbread on hold thinking it would have this cover:

Not a bird in sight! Any other ideas where I could put it?

It probably passes the Bechdel test, as it seems the main characters are all female.

I completely forgot about the twentieth century prompt! I might slide it in there or under the 20+ books category, thanks!

Helen Oyeyemi is a WOC.
If you were born in March, this would work for the "published month you were born" prompt.
Was this a book you meant to read in 2019?
Silver wrote: "Any idea where An Ember in the Ashes would fit?"
There must be a blog or podcast that recommended it, it was big-time hyped when it was first published.
The author is a woman of color.
There are a few deadly sins involved: predominantly pride, wrath, and greed.
Perhaps you meant to read it in 2019.
There's always a past year's category that will work.

Maybeeee the title caught your attention? Maybe you know nothing about history of the DR and so it’s a subject you know nothing about? I wouldn’t actually call it a Bildungsroman, but it’s close, and you can probably convince yourself that it works. And, finally, it’s been banned in various schools. Oh, and there’s always a previous prompt!!!

@Nadine, Damn! You're good! I appreciate the many options presented. I gotta feeling I'm going to find a home for this one. :-)
I need some suggestions on where The White Darkness might fit. I picked it up at a book exchange table at my local bookshop (leave a book, take a book). I'm thinking maybe the title might have caught my attention haha (because it did), but open to other suggestions. I was born in April, so it doesn't work for the publish month one unfortunately.I've also picked my previous year prompt already, and it won't fit, because I've selected the audiobook prompt!
Sowmya wrote: "can I read recursion by Blake crouch for the medical thriller prompt?"From the description it sounds like it has elements of thriller and a disease (with a neuroscientist trying to find a treatment). If you read it and it doesn't quite fit you could always use it for about a woman in STEM instead.
Sowmya wrote: "can I read recursion by Blake crouch for the medical thriller prompt?"I’d say yes!
Some might not if they’re being strict about it though. Which would make more sense after you’ve read the book.
Alexandra wrote: "I just finished “Dear Edward” by Ann Napolitano. Does it fit into any of the prompts?"Is it the US edition? That has birds on the cover. When I heard of it I thought it would maybe work for bildungsroman. Did you feel it was a coming of age story?
So the Canada Reads shortlist is out: https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/...I've figured out probable slots for most of them. From the Ashes will be my 20+ letter title (with the sub-title), Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club will be my pink cover, We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir will be my WOC (though it could also be pink cover/20 letter title). I've already read Son of a Trickster, so won't count that, even if I re-read.
That leaves Radicalized. Any thoughts on where it might fit? It's was published in my birth month, but I was actually hoping to do one for that that is month + year - and had found a book already to fill it. I see it's rating is currently over 4. Can anybody speak to any of the content prompts though - are the seven deadly sins involved? Setting? Character in their 20s?
Thanks!

So funny - I am just about to do the same thing - I saw the list this morning and planned to try to slot them in once I had some time after work. I haven't read any of them yet.
I will let you know if I come up with any other ideas for prompts - some of the ones you mentioned I have slotted in already so will have to see if I juggle or find somewhere else to put them. I am also doing a few other challenges, so I might end up slotting them in there. I looked at Radicalized quickly and nothing jumped out at me in terms of Pop Sugar -it looks likes it is four novellas so that seems hard - would you just count it if one of the novellas worked for the prompt? Or does it have to span across all 4 (which seems hard to do).
Errlee wrote: "Joanna wrote: "So the Canada Reads shortlist is out: https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/...I've figured out probable slots for most of them. [book:Fr..."
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm trying to track all prompts which a book fits for so I can move things as needed. So if only one of the novellas met a prompt, I might put it in for now and come back and get a better match for that category later once I finish the rest of the challenge.
I'm now rethinking From the Ashes. Unlike We Have Always Been Here, where the subtitle shows when you search the book on Goodreads, there's no mention that I can see of the From the Ashes subtitle. May have to see where else I can place that one too.
Thoughts on The Princess Bride?I know great first line and 20th century publication would work, but I have those slotted with books already, so I was wondering if there was anything else.

It's got better than a 4 star rating on GR.
Other possibilities that are not perfect fits: seven deadly sins (I can't actually think of which sin, but in a book about a guy who becomes a pirate and teams up w/ vagabonds to rescue his beloved back from a greedy prince, there's got to be one! is "greed" one of the sins?), and ... that's it. I thought maybe one of the editions would have a book on the cover, or be text only, but I don't see one.

Do you have author with Flora or Fauna slotted yet? Because From the Ashes is written by Jessie THISTLE.
Unfortunately, I've used that one already.
I'm a bit behind schedule, and I'm just taking a look at the reading prompts now. I've just gone through the prompts and the books I've already read this year. I was able to fill most of them into prompts fairly easily, but I'm unsure about Memento Park
I just clicked on the book, and read the antagonist is torn between "his doting girlfriend and alluring attorney." How about a book containing one of the 7 deadly sins (lust)? Might be stretching it a bit?

Ooh, that might work. I didn't even think of that! I did have something slotted there, but so far, I've only read one book as planned - all my other planned reads have been moved to different slots or dropped altogether.
Nadine wrote: "Mahi wrote: "Thoughts on The Princess Bride?I know great first line and 20th century publication would work, but I have those slotted with books already, so I was wondering if there ..."
Thank you! I think I'll just go with 20th century.
Joanna wrote: "So the Canada Reads shortlist is out: https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/...I've figured out probable slots for most of them. From the Ashes, which was fantastic in my opinion. I was wondering, could it be put into Bildungsroman? Could non-fiction apply to this category?

The book was more about his personal growth, which included questioning his relationship with his fiance.
I suppose there's always "a prompt from a previous year" which gives me about 200 more prompts to choose from!

I know I was wondering about the Bildungsroman prompt for either [book:From the Ashes or also We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir, which is described as a coming of age book.
But I feel like maybe memoirs and Bildungsroman are different and the latter needs to be non-fiction? Mabye I'll go over to that thread and ask.

A memoir or biography can definitely count as an Bildungsroman.

Thanks in advance!

It has more than 20 letters in the title (if you are doing the advanced portion of the challenge). I'm sure it would match up easily to a past challenge prompt. If you are a fan of rounding you could say it has an average of 4 stars on Goodreads. It is currently at 3.97, and, as a scientist, I'd round that up to 4 ;)
mrscooke_reads wrote: "Curious on where this book might fit?How to Make Friends with the Dark"
You could use a prior year prompt and do a book about death and grief.
Holly wrote: "Curious on where this book might fit?How to Make Friends with the Dark"
If you're doing the advanced challenge prompts, it's a book with more than 20 letters in its title.
For the regular prompts, it fits #33, "a book with at least a four-star rating on Goodreads." Alternatively, maybe this is a book you meant to read last year? Or one that you picked up because the title intrigued you?

It would fit "A book by an author who has written more than 20 books" (there are 30 distinct works listed on his author page) and "A book with at least a four-star rating on Goodreads".
