I'm glad you like the look of it! I'm really curious to see if I enjoy it, looking forward to getting started.

Amy | 12907 comments Heather, for last years Trim challenge I put the Invisible Bridge, because at close to 800 pages, I thought I would otherwise never pick it up. And of course lo and behold, number 16 got picked. And honestly I was intimidated but so grateful. It ended up being one of my top 10 for the year. If not for this challenge, it would still be languishing on my TBR. I truly hope for you, that this clunker is also an amazing read. That you put it there for a reason, and that it pays off. I just wanted to say that if not for PBT, I might never have picked up and read gone with the wind. And I’m so glad that I did. Catchy

Oh wow, you are off to a great start 🤣
I didn't realize that book was so big. I think it is suspenseful so perhaps it will read quicker than the page count looks.
They made a TV series out of it also.

I don't think I added any real chonkers for this trim, but I have a dense history book in there, In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin.

message 54: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15493 comments I actually switched out the chunksters because I know during the first 6 months or so I won't have reading time due to work and my Proust reading. Which is the definition of a chunkster!

Is this a sign to add something, abandon ship? I guess I'll just fill in with something I want to read right now. Lol!!

We do have a book club in Humpty Doo library. The issue is it is mainly a drinking club where all new members have to have their wine out of a mini tea-pot. Everyone else gets whatever odd shaped vessels have been found at the op shop but no glasses.
The place is filled with characters eg a groundsman riding his horse back from the pub pulled over by police for "drunk riding" stating "I'm not riding he's taking me home", fair as no tack was in use and the horse was just going home. They got let off.

Jen- any chance you've seen the Australian reality TV show called 'Instant Hotel'? They have an episode with Humpty Doo featured, and that is the ONLY reason I have heard of this place, or know where it is.

I love those names so much! I had to look them up on a map( I have a thing about knowing where places are and their relationship to the rest of the world. You are a good ways from my niece and hubby's aunt in Sydney and also from Susie here on PBT in Melborne.

How did you choose to be located there?

I was in Perth but my visa only allowed me to work for 3 months there and the NT sponsors for 2 years so I flew up on the off chance. They sent me out to Batchelor for 2 years then I moved in to Darwin, once I had permanent residency, but hated the school I was in. I rang the principal at the school I'm at and asked if he had any work going (it's meant to be a rough hard to staff school which is more me) and he made me a job. Been there since July 2006 except for 2 years in Alice Springs for a change of scene.
The school is the biggest constant in my life and most days I enjoy my job.

Well we always need teachers with a backbone (so the kids don't eat them).

My list of Buddy Reads from Trim (meaning I have it on my Trim list to buddy with others) are:
Circling the Sun
The Lost Vintage
The Bird King
Grand Hotel

And also From Sand and Ash which is not on my Trim but is a book others are doing buddy read for and I will join in anyway.

So the only change/addition should be From Sand and Ash.

You had me nearly in a panic attack last night Amy!-LoL- first I get your message-then my dang phone would not let me into GR's I have to create a new pass word.....then of course the "crap app" was useless.....I had to keep looking down at my phone while trying to pay attention to the meeting I was at 😂-guess we all know where everything else in my life rates next to PBT!

message 88: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12907 comments I think we should use this thread to chit chat, and maybe point to the reviews? like its in the monthly tag folder, or the monthly other folder.

Joanne, you asked me to make some changes to the initial post with the buddy reads, and i cannot find where I those were. I looked in my private messages and on all the threads. just let me know if you want me to edit anything in post one for you. I might look in my goodreads mailbox....

message 95: by Jen K (last edited Jan 13, 2020 04:20AM) (new)

Jen K | 3143 comments So I already messed up and started reading one of my trim books. I forgot it was there! Good thing this is unofficial. I will be trading my #9 Golden State in and read The Thirteenth Tale instead.

@ Amy, I enjoyed! Nigeria is a fascinating place.

message 96: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12562 comments #12 The Cost of Courage-When I push through a book and get 3/4 of the way through, then give up-you know it was bad. I am considering it read for this challenge(being unofficial and all) but not reviewing. Just not worth my time

I really liked it! It's short and the protagonist is a little quirky. But for me it feels authentic.

Theresa | 15493 comments I will finally read my Trim this weekend -- Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel - now that the next Bingo number has been picked and it doesn't fit. I'm really excited because I just loved her writing and creativity in Station Eleven.
