I haven't started it. I'm trying to finish a book and this is next up. Are you reading it now?

Not really....just read the intro. Had a couple of deaths in the family so I was worried I might be holding you up.
Looks to me more like a chapter a day book than a read in one sitting one. What are your feelings on it?

Can't wait to hear about this one because I loved Station Eleven.

Still working on my trim pick... it's OK. I can't decide if I hate these characters enough to dislike the book overall, but it's still early (Fates & Furies by Lauren Groff). Writing is beautiful though.

I loved this book! But the characters are definitely not ones that you are cheering for. lol

I am OK with unlikable characters, but right now I am stuck in the monotony of Lotto's opera project with Leo and I am bored... will this end?? :P

Sounds like a plan so we don't have to rush it. School goes back next Friday so I'll have less reading time too and they are redoing all the timetables so I now have no idea what I'm teaching.

There are 9 chapters so I'll start Sunday to do a chapter a day.

Wondering what you think of chapter 1? The take home for me was the German language seems to have a better word for everything. We use 5+ words where they use 1 or 2 which actually describe it perfectly so why not just do a direct translation or incorporate their word?

Shelly | 936 comments Hi Amy,
I am ditching Darling Rose Gold and replacing it with Bad Blood. #22.
(Bad Blood has been getting consistently great reviews).

Did you ever switch it for something else as well?

Me too :) And I am ready to pull the trigger whenever.

I haven't finished my #12 and it isn't very compelling :(

message 120: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15493 comments Still haven't read my #12. I was caught up with reading Proust then waited to see what Bingo year was drawn...not the publication year for it - but will read Last Night in Montreal this week.

Looking forward to the new number.

Amy | 12907 comments Love that this is a no pressure extra. That folks can change their minds on a dime. Feels like we hit the right notes in how folks wanted to see this go. We have kept the spirit of the challenge and made it work for us. We have quite a robust group even for Trim! 25th sounds perfect to me.... Thank you Joanne. You (amongst others) are the hidden soul of our group. We are all so blessed you found us and made a home.

I agree! This year I will be DNFing books more so I can keep the momentum going and it is nice that this isn't an official challenge. DNFed? No harm, no foul 😊

Can't wait for the number tomorrow!!!

Amy | 12907 comments I'm 35% through my Trim #12 the Secret Keeper. And I am adding myself to the buddy read for the Lost Vintage #9. Hit my stride for January and really looking forward to February's reads. Going on vacation on the 15th, so will knock off a ton. Now just need to know tomorrows trim and next Saturday's bingo pick. Super fun!

message 131: by Idit (new)

Idit | 1028 comments I haven’t read my book as well...
First I realised I can’t find it at home, then, I realised those two novellas do exist at home but in a bigger book that contain more novellas. Then I got confused and unexcited and slightly guilty, and then had a ‘holiday from hell’ and decided to remember life’s priorities and stopped feeling guilty.
I don’t feel like reading it and I’m feeling fine about it :D

Heather Reads Books (gothicgunslinger) | 859 comments I'm about to crack my #12, The Terror by Dan Simmons. It's so long I'm intimidated... BUT it matches the "survival" tag, so at least I can report on it then when I inevitably don't finish it until February... LOL.

Theresa | 15493 comments Woot! The Lost Vintage it is! Amy, your joining in on the Buddy Read was the good luck charm!

As I am the reason for this one being on anyone's TBR, let alone becoming a buddy read, I will open the buddy read thread.

I suspect it will fit 'survival' also.

Jen (jentrewren) | 1114 comments I will finish my number 12 by the end of the month. Still plenty of time. I think my poor buddy read partner is probably wishing they hadn't changed from the original.....we have both been a bit disappointed with the first 1/4.
My number 9 is 11.22.63

Oh that has happened before, Joanne, in late 2018, when I joined 2 or 3 different buddy reads - i.e. Circe and The Weight of Ink. None of the major buddy reads in 2019 inspired me, so it has been a while!

And at least the 4 of us are in Poll Tally...2 on each team!🤣

And The Lost Vintage totally fits survival. Also for those doing Popsugar, author is a journalist.

This was one of my numbers picked in the "Official" challenge and I ended up loving it. It was different than what I expected and, even though it's a big book, I was glad I had a chance to read it.

Jen - enjoy 11.22.63! It's quite long but I flew through parts of it!

My #9 is Crime's Strangest Cases - should be interesting!

message 146: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12907 comments Ok! I’m in for the buddy read for the lost vintage. I have a free copy that came to me somehow. Maybe from a little library or something. And it’s been on my TBR so I figured whenever that number came up I would read it with you guys. But my actual true trim number nine, was Correlli’s Mandolin. This is been on my TBR for literally years, as an absolute favorite of others. I’ve actually been looking for a reason to read it.

I have a buddy read with this but don't know who that is or if they are still doing this.

It fits with Survival
