Jae I managed to read 28 books this year (after only reading like... 5(?) in 2018 and starting really late in 2019) so first I’m really proud and second I think I’m ready to challenge myself further ^^
My taste is mostly fantasy and sci-fi and I will try to read books I already own in priority ( my list doesn’t have a lot of new releases)

- Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
- A million suns by Beth Revis
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff
- Assassin’s apprentice by Robin Hobb
- Extremely loud and incredibly close by Jonathan Safran Foer
- A gathering of shadows by V.E. Schwab
- Gémina by Amie Kaufman and Jay kristoff
- so long and thanks for all the fish (hitchhiker’s guide #4) by Douglas Adams
- Defy the stars by Claudia gray
- The queen of attolia (the queen’s thief #2) by Megan Whalen Turner
- the catcher in the rye by J.D. Salinger
- Winter ( The lunar chronicles #4) by Marissa Meyer
- L’homme sirène by Carl-Johan Vallgren ( reading the French translation, the original is in Swedish)
- Velocity by Dean Koontz
- The forbidden wish by Jessica khoury
- mask of shadows by Lindsey Miller
- This mortal coil by Emily Suvada
- Vassa in the night by Sarah porter
- Flame in the mist by Renee Ahdieh
- The beautiful and damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- The necromancer’s house by Christopher Buehlman
- The river of no return by Bee Ridgway
- Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche
- La colonie pénitentiaire by Kafka ( translated from German to French)
- Winds of Darkness by Rebecca L. snowe
- A map for wrecked girls by Jessica Taylor
- The midwich cuckoos by John Wyndham
- The stars never rise by Rachel Vincent
- Horns by Joe Hill
- Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
- End of days by Susan Ee
- The wicked king by Holly Black

Some books in French ( that’s another challenge of mine, read more books in my native language 😅)
Anyone else reading in multiple languages this year? I feel like I own many more French books but I can’t find them for some reason...

- Mãn by Kim Thúy
- La déesse des mouches à feu by Geneviève Pettersen
- Ensemble c’est tout by Anna Gavalda
- Antigone by Jean Anouilh
- La machine infernale by Jean Cocteau
- Candide by Voltaire
- Sept jours pour une éternité by Marc Levy

Let me know if you have read some in my lists and what you thought of them!

Happy reading!

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Hi Jae,
Firstly, congratulations on reaching your goal this year :) and secondly best of luck in 2020! I hope you find a lot of great books, in English and French.

I speak 4 other languages so I too have the goal to read in multiple languages. I always end up reading mostly in English, because it's just easier for me to get my hands on English books... or at least that's the excuse I keep telling myself :D

Anyways, happy reading to you!

Jae Thank you!

It is a real challenge to find good fantasy and sci-fi books in french! ( that are not too childish)

The french book industry is still stuck in the « this is not litterature » mindset :( so in that sense I do agree that english books are easier to find for me too. The fantasy and sci-fi sections are full of translations from english books, so I will just go and find the original edition :P

Jae I finished my first book of the year! The Binding by Bridget Collins. It was so good, an automatic 5 stars. I totally recommend!

Jae So I didn't update this in a while... I've read 9 books this year so far, but none of them were from my own shelves. I got them all from the library. At least I'm not spending!

Anyway, The Binding is still one of my fave I've read, and a lovely surprise is "The Gentleman's Guide To Vice and Virtue" which was very sweet and funny. Right now I'm enjoying the Wayward Children series and I'm about to commence the 5th book.

Here's my list so far:
1. The Binding
2. I Wish You All the Best
3. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue
4. Recursion
5. Sadie
6. Every Heart a Doorway
7. Down Among the Sticks and Bones
8. Beneath the Sugar Sky
9. In an Absent Dream
