Updated msg 14Just completed another book for my Ethiopia flight - Through These Veins by Anne Marie Ruff. This is not an ownvoices book. However, I felt the author did a good job not centering the west and actually contrasting the American viewpoint of profit over well-being with other altruistic world views. Worth reading! 4 stars

Updated msg 14Just completed my last book for my Ethiopian flight - Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. This was an incredible read! Captivating characters, a wealth of knowledge, and good writing! And I learned a lot too. These will stick with me: “In the last few years she’d come close to defining the nameless ambition that had pushed her this far: to avoid the sheep life at all costs.”
“God will judge us ... by what we did to relieve the suffering of our fellow human beings. I don’t think god cares what doctrine we embrace.”
“The key to your happiness is to own your slippers, own who you are, own how you look, own your family, own the talents you have, and own the ones you don’t. If you keep saying your slippers aren’t yours, then you’ll die searching, you’ll die bitter, always feeling you were promised more. Not only our actions, but also our omissions, become our destiny.” Definitely worth reading! 5 stars.

Updated msg 14Just completed the last book for my asexuality flight - Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I love this incredibly frank, forthright fantasy! It’s the antidote to “normal”. Cannot wait to read more in this world. “I never did like to leave a story unfinished.” “It’s rude and lewd to block the food.” Definitely worth reading! 5 stars
