I'm doing the same! The other one i was considering is Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart series.

I'm no expert, but I'd say any collection of books more than one counts as a series. I would consider 2 books a series."

Thanks :)

M.A. (librarian329) | 9 comments Over the years, I have read all the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton, other than the last two. So I read "X" and "Y is for yesterday." She died and asked that no one "finish" the alphabet for her, so I'm more than reasonably sure that I've read them all.

message 54: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 365 comments I read Tempest by Beverly Jenkins for this task. It's the third book in the trilogy and I'd previously read and loved the first two so I've been excited to get to it. It was super good, I loved it, and it was a great end to the trilogy.

I don't double-dip, so I'll only be using it for this task, but it would also count as a romance with a single parent and a historical not set during WWII for any who may be interested.

message 55: by Tokoro (new)

Tokoro (magicschooltokoro) | 2 comments I was looking for an appropriate selection for the task, and found something that may work for me at the airport, a Robin Hobb fantasy novel, not sure about the series off-hand.

I didn't know there was a sequel! I hope my library has it!

AJ (mysticslinky) | 34 comments @Sarah Tellman Veloz

If you like thrillers, I would suggest The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson.

It is the final book in the Millenium Trilogy written by Larsson. David Lagercrantz has continued the series since Larsson's death, but he changed a lot of little things so that it doesn't feel like the same Lisbeth.

message 58: by Octavia (new)

Octavia Cade | 139 comments I read Let Me Go by Chelsea Cain for this. It's the last of six books in the Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell series, and it's all left pretty open-ended. Maybe she'll write another one one day, but it doesn't seem like that's happening any time soon and that might be a good thing. They were decent enough thrillers, but it was all getting a little repetitive there.

I started reading them last year, so only had to get through the last two to finish off this task.

message 59: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaniebopp) | 2 comments So I accidentally did this last night - I read Jordan L Hawk's Deosil after rereading the previous 2 books. It was the grand conclusion of an 11 book series based on Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos and I love it all.

message 60: by Brews.and.Books (new)

Brews.and.Books (brewsandbookschicago) | 1 comments I read The Burning White by Brent Weeks. It was published back in October but I didn't get to it until last month. It's a great series, but the last was likely not my favorite book.

message 61: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 49 comments The final book of the Library of Alexandria came out last year so I was excited to finish it. Sword and Pen

message 62: by Denise (new)

Denise (denisemeagles) | 6 comments I highly recommend All The Days Past, All The Days To Come by Mildred D. Taylor. This book is the conclusion of the saga of the Logan family made famous in the Newbery Medal winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

This book was just published on January 7, 2020 and is the last book in this Logan family series.

message 63: by Juliet (new)

Juliet MacGregor Karen wrote: "The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel - the final installment of the Cromwell books."

Would one need to read all of the books in the series or is this book stand alone?

message 64: by Tom (new)

Tom I read The Civil War, Vol. 3: Red River to Appomattox, the final entry into Shelby Foote's narrative non-fiction series on the American Civil War. A monolithic endeavour but worth it for anyone interested in that period of U.S. history.

message 65: by Karen (new)

Karen (pigtailsandall) | 17 comments I decided to read the entire Broken Earth series by N.K. Jemisin for this challenge. I've finished The Fifth Season and The Obelisk Gate so far, just need to read the last one.

message 66: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 75 comments I finished Finale for this, was just ok. It really felt like she didn't quite know how to wrap it up and just wanted to be done with it. so she forced and ending and called it good.

message 67: by Sue (new)

Sue Would the prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy that is coming out next month in May count as the last book in the series?

message 68: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 240 comments I finished The Mirror &The Light by Hilary Mantel

message 69: by James (new)

James | 19 comments I'm planning to read Parable of the Talents. I think that the preceding book in the series Parable of the Sower is about a climate change catastrophe.

message 70: by Emerging (new)

Emerging Writer | 106 comments Pretty sure I'm going with The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle for this!

message 71: by Deb (new)

Deb | 35 comments If there are only two books. Would that count?Life After LifeA God in Ruins

message 72: by Deb (new)

Deb | 35 comments Would two count? I am looking at A God in Ruins and Life After Life

message 73: by Deb (new)

Deb | 35 comments Jenny wrote: "How long does the series have to be? Would three be too short?"
I am hoping that two counts. A series is just a number of events that come one after the other and are related. So, why wouldn't two or three count?

message 74: by Deb (new)

Deb | 35 comments Tiffany wrote: "Does this have to be the very last book in a series or can it be the last book that is currently out but there is a plan for more?"
Personally, I would say the last one currently - those in planning may never come to fruition.

Deb | 35 comments Jenny wrote: "How long does the series have to be? Would three be too short?"
If you look at the ones they recommend - there are a lot of #3's on the list. https://bookriot.com/2019/12/16/serie...

I'm counting Parable of the Talents, which is the last of a two-book series.

message 77: by Emerging (new)

Emerging Writer | 106 comments Another idea: With Her in Ourland is the last book in a feminist utopian trilogy by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

message 78: by Juliet (new)

Juliet MacGregor Karen wrote: "The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel - the final installment of the Cromwell books."

Could The Mirror & the Light be read as a standalone?

message 79: by Bonnie G. (new)

Bonnie G. (narshkite) | 1413 comments i would definitely say no. its an actual historical chronicle so you need to start with Wolf Hall or you won't understand the whole

message 80: by Aaryn (new)

Aaryn | 1 comments Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory was just released. It's the last book in the Wedding Date series so far.... Do you think it counts?

message 81: by Virginia (new)

Virginia (dogdaysinaz) | 30 comments I read Fake Truth, the third and last in the Ian Ludlow Thriller series. The series kind of pokes fun at the thriller genre, so it's ridiculous, which can be hilarious.
Fake Truth (Ian Ludlow Thrillers #3) by Lee Goldberg

message 82: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Anderson | 10 comments Do y'all think Akata warrior counts? There's only two books in the series so not sure

message 83: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 75 comments I think there is a third one planned, at least. So series isn’t compete. I personally would t count it. Her Binti series is complete though, and the first two are pretty short. Could get through them fairly quickly to get to the Night Masquerade

Thanks! I didn't know a third one was planned, that's great news. I've already read the Binti series so I dont think it'd work but good suggestion!

message 85: by Cat (new)

Cat (perkyrusalka) | 37 comments Do we think that Midnight Sun counts as the last book in a series, or is it a standalone of its own?

message 86: by Bonnie G. (new)

Bonnie G. (narshkite) | 1413 comments I have been finished for a while, but I keep adding books that fit the prompts. I figured it might help to post what I read for the various categories for people who might have a prompt or two left. For this I read a lot of (but not all) romance since so many are series books.

9 Read the LAST book in a series
American King 4-stars
The Mirror & the Light 5-stars
Chasing Cassandra 5-stars
Party of Two 3-stars
Daring and the Duke 5-stars

message 87: by Megan (new)

Megan | 130 comments I read an advanced digital copy of Death and the Maiden by Samantha Norman (and Ariana Franklin, who started the series) for this prompt.

message 88: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 204 comments I am running out of time so think I will count the 4th book of the Roxanne Weary detective series, Once You Go This Far by Kristen Lepionka. As of right now, I believe that the publisher has not optioned a next book in the series. I started reading these murder mysteries for the Read Harder Challenge (mystery by a LGBTQ+ author) and really enjoy them!
