Chapter Seven - (view spoiler)[=Zafira and Yasmine's interactions were so sweet! They only saw the best in each other and I loved how they scandalised the older ladies at the wedding by not sitting silently. They have fight and personality and I really hope the wedding does not dim it or ruin their bond.

Altair and Nasir however have an entirely different relationship and are polar opposites in thought and action. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter Thirteen - (view spoiler)[I wondered what the mystery with Kulsum was and it has been revealed that her tongue has been torn out and Nasir feels responsible for it. There's still more to discover there.

Zafira and her mother are beginning to understand each other and I thought this a lovely moment, before Zafira left them all. Deen seems like a good person too and I can see how the conversations with those around her and who love her are altering Zafira's perception of the world, if not her resolve to change it. Chapter Twenty - (view spoiler)[The Silver Witch is going to be interesting to explore as I don't really understand what is going on with her there.

The last few chapters have mostly followed Zafira leaving and I'm eager for the plot to continue on now. Not that this has been dull, as such. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter Thirty - (view spoiler)[I was really enjoying this but also not feeling it. Like when Deen died it just seemed inevitable rather than super sad. I was eager to continue on with Zafira's adventure but was bonding less with Nasir's perspective. Everything was interesting but I was not 100% invested.

This shifted with the revelation that Kulsum was a spy and Deen's resurrection, however. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter Fifty - (view spoiler)[Nasir and Zafira finally met and the reveal that she was female was immediate. I was really glad this reveal wasn't dragged out.

Zafira's ability to always know the right direction is going to be interesting to explore. Her affinity for direction and her status as a da'ira makes her something to be used by the Sultan. The Silver Witch still remains a mystery. Why is she so at odds with the Sultan? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter Sixty- (view spoiler)[I'm enjoying this one but am not enamoured. I'm pleased we are getting answers to some of the mysteries, such as who the silver witch is. The magic is super interesting to explore but I feel a bit of a disconnect with the characters, despite liking them. (hide spoiler)]

Finished - (view spoiler)[This had beautiful writing and a solid plot but I didn't get fully immersed during the central portion, and I don't know why!

I'm glad this had split perspectives as it was interesting to see how they viewed each other and then be privy to how they really were and saw their own selves, which often differed. Nasir was such a different person in front of his father, for example, and once this was noticed Zafira's opinion of him altered. Also, they bonded with both only feeling like they were valued for their use, rather than who they were.

I always assumed Nasir and Altair were brothers so that reveal didn't blow me away but the details of Nasir's mother's death did. Excited to see Yasmin in the sequel!! (hide spoiler)]
