Cheryl (cherylllr) Oh I don't nominate what I've read! I vote for books that I've heard good things about and that I *want* to read!

That's the spirit!

Cheryl (cherylllr) So, Forthenco Pacino, you can do the same for the next time!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments About 1% of this group has voted for a book to read in January & there isn't a clear winner showing at this time.

Dangerous Visions - 3 votes
Callahan's Crosstime Saloon - 2 votes
The Wanderer - 2 votes
The Female Man - 2 votes
The Stochastic Man - 1 vote
The Cloud Walker - 1 vote
Bug Jack Barron - 0 votes
Fantastic Voyage - 0 votes
Woman on the Edge of Time - 0 votes

Remember, you can change your vote if you want. It would be nice if we could agree on a clear winner without a run-off poll. The poll is here:

Gabi Uh, that's meager, indeed.

Marc-André | 298 comments No PM has been sent, people mught not know.

On a personal, I have to say I find the whole voting process convoluted. Sometimes we have a second poll to beak a tie when a novel got a majority, spmetimes not. The second poll often ends up tied anyway or their is a winner, but we read the second obe anyway. Plus we sometimes get to many options like this month. And the voting calendr is weird. All this might turn people off and lower participation.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments We send out a broadcast message on or about the first of each month & the poll is posted here, Marc-André. I don't like spamming people with a lot of broadcast messages, especially when it's just a digest of what is also posted in the appropriate topics.

As for the books we read, we're trying to allow more people to read & discuss. If their are 2 clearly popular books, we read them. If there are more, we have a run-off poll. We also break up into 2 polls if there are 8 or more nominations. How would you change it?

What's your suggestion for the timing of the poll? It seems OK to me. People have almost a week after the broadcast message to vote & then 3 weeks to get the book before we start to read. That seems like good timing to me.

Please answer in the Group Suggestions topic where I see a similar complaint from you. I've looked through it & don't see any helpful suggestions, although skimmed fairly quickly. We've covered much of this ground before.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok, y'all have a choice again for January. Read either or both: The Female Man, Dangerous Visions and join us for what are likely to be some interesting discussions!

message 59: by Gabi (new)

Gabi I can Dangerous visions neither get as ebook nor as audiobook so I'll be joining the female man.

message 60: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Great!

Marc-André | 298 comments There is a poll for Vision vs Female Man? I can't find it.

No, the two books just about tied, so both will be a group read.
