Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Heartstopper: Volume Three by Alice Oseman which is just as adorable as the others.

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
Whilst I could read the webcomic, I'm reading it as and when the printed volumes come out, and this arrived just before this prompt was due. It's a comic so is quick to read but also heart-warming. Yes, I did read it in one day (one evening really).

1. What are you reading for this category?
Lethal Incision 12/02/2020

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I picked this for challenges in 2 other groups I am in.
It can be read in about 2 hours, it has some rave reviews but I wasn't that impressed

Erika | 22 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Maybe This Time
2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
This was one of those prompts where I assigned the book to it after I had finished it. With my luck I could have chosen a 80 page book and as soon as I tried to read it something would have gone wrong and I wouldn't have finished it in a day. It just made more sense for me to wait until I finished a book that I wasn't using elsewhere on the list in a day and then fill it in for this prompt.

That being said I did start reading this book with the expectation that I'd probably finish it in a day. Even though it was 368 pages Kasie West books are normally pretty quick reads so I suspected that I could get through it in a day.

I did manage to finish it a day (bless audiobooks and being able to listen to them at work sometimes) but I almost didn't. I found the story dragging and had to make myself finish it late at night because at that point I was determined to finish it in 24 hours to make it at least somewhat worthwhile.

message 54: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 32 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
To Be Taught, If Fortunate

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I have wanted to read something by this author for some time now and thought that this novella would be a good place to start. I started reading this late at night. So although I could have read it in one day if I started sooner, I finished it the next day.

message 55: by Donna (new)

Donna | 168 comments I have read 2 books lately that would qualify, so I thought I'd mention them here in case someone is still looking for a book.

The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

message 56: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments I read “Reasons to Stay Alive” by Matt Haig. It’s 256 pages and a quick read. Many of the pages are not full pages of writing. Yes, I finished it in 1 day. I just happened to come across it at the library. I had never heard of it but the title appealed to me.

message 57: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 93 comments I cheated on this one a bit. I meant to read The Sea of Tranquility for prompt #8 but I didn't see that it was supposed to be a two word title! I'm using it for this one instead since it was a pretty quick read. I finished in two days.

I looked for short books for the Readathon and found Silk, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and The Ponder Heart. A recent book that got a lot of good reviews is On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. I haven't read it, but I looked at it in a bookstore and it is not only short but has a lot of white space. I would never purchase a book like that new because I think of it as a "2-hour book", but I might request it from the library. Personally, I mostly prefer long books with a lot of detail and characters, rather than novellas or short stories, so it's a switch for me to look for something short. One genre I do like is Regency romances, which are often about 200 pages in paperback and very fast reads.

message 59: by Darja (new)

Darja | 48 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Cult of Crime

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I found it by chance in bookshelf at the railway station and I remember my childhood when I liked these books. So I took it home and read in few hours. :-)

message 60: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 477 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?

I read Father Mine by J.R. Ward

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?

I'm not a very fast reader, although I am always reading, so I wanted to be sure I picked a book I could actually finish in a day. This one is only 91 pages, so I finished it.

message 61: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Reaume | 10 comments The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo nailed this topic! I couldn't top reading it. I started it this morning and just finished it. Anyone else love or read this book?

message 62: by Cheryl A. (new)

Cheryl A. (teddi1961) 1. What are you reading for this category?
A Knife in the Fog by Bradley Harper

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I am reading this as I have been waiting for a long time to get a copy (couldn't afford it) so I requested through our library's interlibrary program. (It also fits as #21 prompt for PS reading challenge!)

message 63: by Jana (new)

Jana | 73 comments I read Big Nate: In a Class by Himself. I chose it because it also fit a needed genre for a "Winter Bingo" Challenge that I am doing. I did not read it in a day because I was using it as a "break" from a different book I was reading.

message 64: by Severina (new)

Severina | 395 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
It was actually on my list of recommended books (if memory serves, it was recommended by Stephen King at some point.) King is my favourite writer so I am usually down for whatever he suggests. I found this one a big miss, though.

And yes, it only took a couple of hours to read.

message 65: by Susan (new)

Susan | 143 comments The Art Detective: Fakes, Frauds and Finds and the Search for Lost Treasures
My only five-star read so far this year. It's a fun, chatty memoir about art authentication, and it really spoke to the researcher in me. I zoomed through it and wanted more.

Susan | 143 comments Frances wrote: "I read And the Ocean Was Our Sky. I picked it because it is a retelling of Moby-Dick; or, the Whale, but much, much shorter. I did read the book in less than 24 hours,..."

My kid read excerpts from Moby Dick in English last semester, and he asked me whether Ahab got the whale because he wanted to know what happened but didn't want to slog through 800 pages of Melville. Thanks for pointing out this book. I'll recommend it to my kid.

(My response to him, btw? (view spoiler))

message 67: by Alexx (new)

Alexx (dinosaurslayeggs) | 136 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I am reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J. K. Rowling

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I picked this book because it's short and it's a book I already physically owned but had not yet got around to reading. I was planning to read it across two days because I've been quite busy today, but I've got about an hour right now to spare so I reckon I will probably finish it today

message 68: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 760 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
84, Charing Cross Road
2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I have wanted to read this book for a long time, it's always touted as a must for book lovers. I read it in an hour. It's 94 pages of letters, so really short.

message 69: by ladymurmur (new)

ladymurmur | 541 comments I was planning on reading one of the many Tor.com novellas I've acquired for this prompt - but then I caught the latest ick going around the office, and ended up spending the weekend sleeping and reading. Lo and behold, I started and finished the most recent Incryptid series novel - Imaginary Numbers - all on Saturday!

My backlog of Tor.com novellas will not go to waste, filling other prompts, I'm sure!

message 70: by Tracy (last edited Mar 08, 2020 05:31PM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments This is perfect for throwing in a graphic novel. The first book that came to mind for me was Sea Prayer by Khaled Hosseini, but I couldn't resist Pumpkinheads when I came across it at the library, so I used that for now. I'm still trying to find my original choice. I think I need to do an Inter Library loan to get my hands on it .

Here are some longer ones that I read in a day so far this year:
Ninth House 459 pages
The Invention of Hugo Cabret 533 pages
One of Us Is Next 377 pages

message 71: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 452 comments What are you reading for this category? Yellow WallPaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day? I've been meaning to read it for a while, because I'm interested in mental health. I read it in 40mins.

I am so glad this story wasn't any longer, because I couldn't have taken much more of it. I don't think I've ever read such a razor sharp, terrifying depiction of a mind caving in on itself. Any more, and I'd have been clawing at that yellow wallpaper myself, desperate to rescue the narrator in order to save us both. The claustrophobia and detachment from reality is suffocating as you observe this highly articulate and self-aware narrator fall deeper into her illness. The wry comments on how she is treated allows you to see just how those around her and the general mindset of the time facilitate her plunge into psychosis. The whole thing just comes together as a true horror story of just how close any of us could be to that invisible (at least to the sufferer) line between sanity and mental illness. I was so thoroughly creeped out by the end that I haven't even been able to organise my thoughts on how this is also such a brilliant statement about the rights of women... What an incredible story.

That's what I chose - super short but well worth reading. The art is gorgeous too.

I read Skim; it's a YA graphic novel and a pretty quick read. I like books I can read in a day because it helps me catch up when I'm behind ;)

Kellie Lyn | 211 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?

Regular: The Pearl John Steinbeck
ABC: A Doll's House Henrik Ibsen

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?

Regular: I just finished teaching Of Mice and Men in my class and wanted to try this one. Not on par at all! I did finish it in a day.

ABC: I picked this one up because I remember reading it in college many years ago and wanted to see if I would still like it. Still like it and finished it in a day.

message 75: by Amy (new)

Amy | 35 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

2. Why did you pick this book? Binit was only 88 pages long and sounded interesting so I added it to my options. The Perks of Being a Wallflower was on my list and fit the prompt

3. Did you read it in one day? I started both these books in the evenings and couldn't stay up to finish them but would have finished in a day if I would have started the books earlier in the day.

message 77: by Annagail (new)

Annagail (amramblings) | 3 comments There’s a little book called The Guest Cat, by a Japanese author whose name escapes me at the moment, but it is fairly short yet incredibly good. I would highly recommend and definitely think it doable to read in a day.

message 78: by Stacey (new)

Stacey D. | 1908 comments I'm reading Sea Monsters by Chloe Aridjis. While it's only 205 pages, I'm sure it'll take me longer than one day. Even though I'm shut in due to the COVID-19 apocalypse and could read books all the livelong day, I'm a really slow reader :((

message 79: by Heather (new)

Heather (eveejoystar) | 64 comments 1)Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
2)I used to watch the show in high school and have had it in my tbr for awhile. Google says it's 304 pages which I could definitely finish in a day. I normally only read for a couple hours before bed though so I might not.

Alesha (musicgal17) | 39 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I was inspired by a prompt included in the "Backlist Readathon." The prompt was to read the shortest backlist title on your TBR.

I did read this book in a day. Very easy read, and heartfelt story. 5 stars.

Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?

It was on my TBR and with current events being what they are, I wanted to read something quick and easy. I read it in about 3 hours this morning.

I have been the reading the series that the book is part of, it is a novella so only 53 pages long.

message 86: by Cheryl A. (new)

Cheryl A. (teddi1961) 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read A Knife in the Fog by Bradley Harper and listened to A Knife in the Fog by Bradley Harper

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I "thought" I would be able to read this in one day easily as it only has 288 pages. Did you read it in one day? No. The letters were too small and I had a dickens of trying to get a (free) audio (which is only 8 hrs and 40 minutes.) Ended up I had to buy the audio so I could read and listen when I had time that I could do both. I got to the 4th chapter when the paperback was due back to the library and I couldn't renew this particular book! So I listened to the rest of the audio and did a review here on Goodreads.

And all because I put the darn book on this prompt! In reality, I could have read (if the letters where a little larger) or listened to the audio easily in one day. Obviously, I no longer live in reality! 🤪

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read Wedding Rows by Kate Kingsbury.

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I picked it because it had been on my shelf forever and it fit the prompt. I didn't read it in one day but it definitely could have been.

message 88: by Emily (new)

Emily I read this easily in a few hours:

9. A Book that Can be Read in a Day: Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid

this was a really cute easy rom-com!

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day? I picked it up at a used book store and I remember I was supposed to read it in school but I don't think I ever did. The forward about the author was really interesting. He was only 29 when he died and he wrote this book on a bet. I think I finished it within 24 hours. I forgot what time I started it yesterday.

Nora Roberts, for me, is a guaranteed quick and engrossing read. If life hadn't gotten in the way, this would have been completed in one day.

message 92: by Molly (new)

Molly (mcelizabeth97) 1. What are you reading for this category?
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I picked this book because it's short, I've read it before, and I wanted to reread it before I watched the movie again (added to Netflix last month). I was able to read it in a day. While it is a sort of heavy book, reading it in a day helped me see the "big picture" of the story I guess.

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I am reading through the Abe List of 100 Essential Female Writers this year and found this short option by Susan Sontag. I read it in two days. While short, it was dense and I needed to take a break!

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day? I saw this available used from a bookstore I like, I like Sarah Andersen's comics, and I needed a break from some heavy non-fiction reading. It was super-cute and I read it in an evening. This is also a first in series.

2. Why did you pick this book? Did you read it in one day?
I've read most of the books that can be read in a day from American authors. The title pulled me in. I did read it in a day, but I don't like these types of prompts because I feel rushed and keep checking the percentage complete.
