Robin (robingregory) Hello brave souls! I'm new here, and messed up already. I put my introduction in the New Books file. Not very good at techy stuff. I look forward to taking this literary adventure with you. I write to love and love to write. I'm a devoted wife, mother, author and lifelong explorer of truth. I was raised in California, surrounded by 7 siblings, horses, real cowboys, and the occasional rattlesnake. My favorite work has been as a lay minister, journalist, and infant massage instructor with mothers and babies at risk. My debut novel is listed below in Books & Blogs for a Giveaway. I wish you days of wonder and incoherent joy! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Robin Gregory

Daniel Hi All,I'm a Goodreads newbie from Ireland. I'm a Firefighter and by some element of grace and great fortune I'm also a published writer. My first novel which was penned mostly in the firehouse or on the way back from call outs deals with how love and kindness transcends even life itself. It was chosen for representation by the renowned Curtis Brown Literary Agency in New York & was published at the beginning of August. Hence I find myself now on Goodreads and browsing for book recommendations from like minded souls. I look forward to reading your reviews and suggestions. Daniel

message 60: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Thank you Robin, I have three teenagers who, like all parents, I adore. Although they drive me crazy sometimes ;-) In my line of work far too often you see how people are here one moment then just gone! I wanted to give them something that demonstrated the enormous power of love and how it costs nothing to be kind.
I got an email from Steve Kasdin an agent with Curtis Brown who said he loved it because it made him think about his life in ways that he hadn't done before. It's just that a small gift for my children - I've no illusions about a career (I like my job now) but it has been a madcap adventure so far

Transform Freedom | 1 comments Hello, everyone. Thanks, in advance, for accepting me to your group. I'm the author of the Transform to Freedom book series, and other books of investigation, factual research and cultural examination. I recently published my book Sex, Lies and Teaching in Japan, which is based on 8 years of life and work experience in Japan. My newest project is examining the culture & lifestyle of the Philippines. Of course I'm trying to get exposure for my books, but am joining groups merely of get to know people; what they read; what is popular and simply to discuss literature as a life-long lover of books. I look forward to interacting with everyone. Best wishes, Elliot Sabino.

Sophia Newtown (sophianewtown) | 1 comments Hi, everybody!
I've been looking for a KIND group of people for a long time. Somehow anything I find revolves about some political conflict, so people only get united against a common enemy, or something?!
It's just that I was born in Ukraine and moved to Israel, and now both of these Countries are in the middle of violent political conflicts, which means I am mostly keeping my location secret from the internet to escape immediate hatred based on my passport :(
Anyway, I am very positive, talkative, and I try to write books and short stories that would inspire people and make them think (at least, these are my intentions...)

Frankly, finding this group just made me want to befriend ALL OF YOU!!!

Peter (peter_prich) | 7 comments I am a new member and it is great meeting you all. I have spent my whole professional life helping people reach their personal and career goals while working to create social change that improves our world. I have done this as a writer, career counselor, executive and leadership development coach and youth advocate. Recently my focus as a youth advocate has centered on my mission to lessen the incidents of bullying and sexual assault on and use of tobacco products by young people. My first novel Dawn of Hope tells the story of how a female teenage activist fought the acceptance in her town that young women could be bullied and sexually assaulted with impunity. It is supported by a website that is very relevant to this group titled workforthecommongood. The sequel Dawn of the Tobacco Wars will be published in November of this year and will focus on that same young woman’s fight to lessen the effectiveness of the tobacco industry killing machine. It is wonderful being connected with you all and I look forward to being a very engaged member of this team. Peter Prichard

Connie Jordan (poetseyes) | 18 comments Hi, I just joined yesterday (love was the key that drew me in). I write poetry and have published three poetry books this year: Matters of the Heart, Personification of Injustice and The World through a Poet's Eyes sold on Barnes and Nobel as well as Amazon. I thought I would leave a poem for you guys. I believe in getting understanding in every situation when dealing with people cause on some levels I believe understanding is key in building relationships that are based on love!!!!

PROVERBS 4:7

Condensed and immediately
is the kind of information preferred,
not enough time to stay for the
vibration of signals in the words,
minimizing the flow of your awareness

To distinguish, by use of these brief
interpretations, of what is real;
forming the basis on a sum total of an
analysis of another, given rise to things
floating in someone else’s mind,

Seek and ye shall find, there is struggle
behind those brief lines; distress changing
the stream of perception flowing through
your mind as a result of those brief lines
of information,

Passed along but not defined in
understanding; when at last, upon
comprehending the struggles
behind those lines, sharpening
awareness, as you move

Subliminally through space and time
in an attempt to discover the whys,
stay safe and be wise, because just like
in the Bible, deciphering the words
being said the statement in my head

That always seems to rewind is:
“Wisdom is the principle thing
but in all thy getting get thee,
understanding; Proverbs 4:7

Spread some love and understanding as you go about your day!!!

Burl Hall | 19 comments I'm new to the group. My interests are in spirituality that is deeply inclusive and non-judgemental. I am also a writer. I wrote a book titled "Sophia's Web: A Passionate Call to Heal Our Wounded Nature." My wife having a PhD in English edited it. Sophia = Wisdom thus I speak to gender as more verb than noun. So these words enter your eyes and you conceive a response. Thus is the dance of yin and yang, female and male. In Taoism, this is known as the Way.

message 90: by Burl (new)

Burl Hall | 19 comments Just finding my way around. Yes, I am an author, attempting to get my pivotal book, "Sophia's Web: A Passionate Call to Heal Our Wounded Nature" before the public. My goal in writing, and in reading (which I am avid about) is to research and foster ways in which humanity can come to peace. I am a deep believer that there are no separate gods to believe in, but that the Gods and Goddess are a "Pluribus Unim" (In the Many One, which is the US motto and which in the days of McDonald's - standardization, is a lot of bunk).

My wife and I do interviews of visionaries of a just, sustainable and equitable future. We interview primarily people that are (a) into alternative lifestyles such as transition towns and permaculture; (b) spiritual visionaries; © alternative ways of doing business (this always makes me reflect on our show regarding "Lil Free Libraries") If you archive it, if I'm not mistaken, we did the show in 2013.

The big deal in this is that we love to interview authors. (Especially those struggling yet have a great message) We are also kicking around ideas about making the show better. So, we are open to suggestions.

One of the things that I have running about in my mind, (I haven't brought this up to my wife yet, so 'shhh', let me tell her (ask, you don't tell my wife)) is to get one or two others who would use the envision this platform to focus on making a better world, one in which we initiate, foster and support a just, equitable and sustainable future resulting in: health, happiness and well being in people, families and the world. Our shows are listed: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/envision.... We go back 3 years, I believe, so a lot of stuff you may enjoy.

C. (miraculous30inspiringstories) | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

I’m C. Bachan. In joining this group, I feel linked to kindred souls. I am happy to connect with all of you.

My love of reading and writing is so great, I think I must have been born with a book in one hand and a pen in the other. I have used these passions to hold different positions in the communications field. In the process, I have also helped others connect better with their inner self or true passion. I work to bring positive, loving energy to people/situations. I am now an author of a new eBook, “Miraculous! 30 Inspiring, True Stories of Incredible Miracles and Divine Love.” Do you believe in everyday miracles? Or do you believe that positive connections happen by accident? I invite you to explore these 30 true stories of unusual happenings I personally encountered, then answer the question. I am facilitating 10 free downloads of the book. The full details are posted in the "Books and Blogs by Group Members" discussion thread.

Looking forward to connecting,
C.

T.L. Wilmore (tlwilmore) | 2 comments Hello everybody, my name is T.L. Wilmore and I am an independent author from Dallas, Texas. I just recently released my debut book Inner City Blues. Inner City Blues is an entertaining, emotional, fictional story based on real-life situations that many families face living in low-income areas in large metropolitan cities such as: Chicago, Detroit, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Dallas and so many more.

My goal of writing this book was to bring awareness to many issues that I believe should get more attention and provide resources to those who may need it or know someone else that does. The characters in this story encounter drugs, abuse, bullying, poverty, addiction, lack of education, lack of guidance, and neglect. I hope this book inspires readers to make positive changes not only in their lives but the lives of others.

message 95: by Mary (new)

Mary Neighbour (medianeighbourscom) Hello, social changers--I'm Mary, a working editor/book shepherd and author of an about to be re-released book about Dred Scott. I can almost see the gears in everyone's minds, trying to think about what books there are on this icon of American history, but relax: there are precious few. I and a handful of others have attempted to work with the scant biographical data to create fictional works about the man, not the infamous legal case.

I joined this group last month, preferring to "listen" for a while before jumping in, so here I am/go!

The Dred Scott case is a touchstone for social injustice and racial prejudice. Dred Scott, the man, I believe was a humble, respectful, doggedly determined husband and father seeking to protect his family from the predations of slavery. Researching his story became an exploration of the culture of slavery and the relationships--good and bad--that that survived that time.

I'll be re-releasing my book (I now have full rights) next month, so please be patient with me if my posts are sporadic--this is a really busy, exciting time. Most exciting is that Lynne Jackson, the great-great-granddaughter of Harriet and Dred Scott, has written a new foreword for the book.

Why now? Because I've silently been watching over the last decade as our society erodes the civil rights and social justice gains of the mid-20th century, and unless I speak up, I know I am part of the problem.

I look forward to being a part of this group's discussions, to learning, to sharing. Speak Right on: Dred Scott

Rian Nejar (riannejar) Hello all...just realized that I haven't introduced my self formally, though I was compelled to respond to some comments elsewhere in the group! Proselytizing of any form gets my goat (or my ram, as I've written). :-)

Am a mainstream writer of multicultural perspectives on the social and human condition. My first book -

Humbling and Humility by Rian Nejar Humbling and Humility by Rian Nejar

- is downloadable free of cost from Amazon today, Oct. 25th. HnH takes a good hard look at prevalent social practices in America, especially those that perpetuate unjust discrimination.

I'll be grateful for your thoughts and reviews...and look forward to getting to know you all.

Kammie | 1 comments Greetings! I'm pretty sure that I have neglected to introduce myself. I'm Kammie. I'm not a writer, just a lover of the written word! Right now I am working on a project to build a library for the group of underprivileged teens & YA I unofficially mentor, other than "my kids," my life is pretty much consumed with home-educating the 2 I actually gave birth to, & mom/wife duties. After a hard day of reading texts & children's books I like to unwind with more reading, playing in the dirt, or chatting with a friend. Sorry, this is awkward, I am terrible at introductions! Looking forward to discussions & getting to know everyone.
