It is time to get some nominations going for our next reads!

Our dark Tower read will finish this month, and Long Price in February, so we need some new material!

Please nominate any fantasy series that is or will be FINISHED in time for our read.

All nominations need a second

Each member may have one nomination and one second.

No repeating an author from another nomination-this just divides votes!

Please check to make sure your nomination has not been read by the group previously (the bookshelf)

Be creative!

Nominated and seconded:
Mordant's Need
The Emperor's Knife
Black Sun Rising
Promise of Blood
Shadowmarch
The Sword of Shannara
Prospero Lost

Nominated needing seconds:

Rules of Ascension
Kushiel's Scion
Legend
Dance Of The Goblins
City of Saints and Madmen

Stretch's Books (wjason24) | 2 comments The Emperor's Knife, Knife Sworn, Knife Sworn I didn't see this one on the bookshelf and it was recently just finished up with Tower Broken. I haven't finished it yet, but thought book 1 was really good and would be happy to read it again.

Helen Ian wrote: "Lightbringer starting with black prism by brent weeks."

I was just looking at this but the final part isn't due out until 2016.

Antonis (antonakis) | 27 comments Skip wrote: "Riyria Revelations/Michael Sullivam, Mistborn trilogy/Brandon Sanderson, and Raven's Shadow/Anthony Ryan"

I'm afraid The Raven's Shadow series won't be finished until summer 2015 so that's also not eligible for nomination if I'm not mistaken.

message 12: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 49 comments I thought we only got to make one nomination?

message 13: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel David B. Coe's series (Winds of Forelands) starting with Rules of Ascension

message 14: by Beth (new)

Beth Johnson (ladypembroke) | 6 comments I second the Coldfire trilogy and nominate Imriel's Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey.

Rania M. (epicbooks) | 3 comments Tad Williams 's The Dragonbone Chair trilogy also known as "Memory,Sorrow and Thorn"

message 18: by Antonis (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 27 comments I've been trying to chose among three series that I want to read (Powder Mage, Acacia & Low Town) for my nomination.

I decided to nominate The Powder Mage series by Brian McClellan. The first book is Promise of Blood (which I read and is really amazing) and the third and final book will be out in February so it should be ok.

message 19: by Janny (new)

Janny (jannywurts) | 414 comments I'd like to nominate the Mordant's Need duology by Stephen R. Donaldson. It's two very long books, The Mirror of Her Dreams and A Man Rides Through.

Several things recommend it. It's a great introductory look at a classic author, it has NONE of the triggers that his other series do, and it has a lovely depth, both to story, character, and style, that offers a lot of ground for discussion. The books are large, the concepts are deep, and it packs everything into a two volume package.

message 20: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Doran I nominate the Broken Empire Trilogy (Prince of Thorns, King of Thorns, Emperor of Thorns) by Mark Lawrence!

He's a great writer, a hardworking dude and deserves all the exposure he can get.

message 21: by Helen (new)

Helen Second: Promise of Blood

Nominate: Shadowmarch, This has been on the shelf for some time and should be read.

I will second the Shadowmarch series by Tad Williams. I've already read Mordant's Need and really liked it, so I'm going for something I have on my shelf but haven't read.

message 24: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 50 comments Since Mordant's Need has been seconded, I'll second Memory, Sorrow and Thorn.

Both series are on my to-be-reread list.

I'm not a moderator so I don't know the answer to this, but I will say that those discussions are still available and open for comments to be added. I read the Farseer Trilogy earlier this year and read each part of the discussion here as I finished each book. It helped deepen my understanding and appreciation. In the past, I have commented on "old" discussions as well and sometimes that revives the conversation. I plan, as I read other series that this group has already read, to use the old discussions in the same way.

I re-read them with the group but would pop into an updated thread.

Tower and Knife Trilogy by Mazarkis Williams

message 35: by Lovish (new)

Lovish How about The black magician trilogy by Trudy Caravan

message 36: by Marco (new)

Marco | 2 comments Hello everyone! Sorting through our bookshelf I noticed that about half of Ian Cameron Esslemont's Malazan Empire is marked as read. How about reading the whole thing? The final book came out this year.

As an alternative, I would propose David Gemmel and his Drenai saga.

message 37: by David (new)

David (dgsstoit) | 2 comments Rigante series by David Gemmell.

We recently read Black Magician and Broken Empire was just this year! So no...

We read Black Company just a year or two ago...

you are more than welcome to re-visit old threads and keep the commentary going. Most of us who are regular readers here love to talk about them!

As for GRR Martins series--I don't see that getting done in the next 10 years even!

message 40: by Maggie, The Malazan Queen of Chaos (last edited Nov 10, 2014 07:16AM) (new)

Maggie K | 1202 comments Mod
We don't want two series by the same author competing! This has been problematic before.....

so Shadow's March or Memory, Sorrow thorn but not both.

Edit: Memory sorrow throne was a second nom so it is eliminated

Lovish wrote: "How about The black magician trilogy by Trudy Caravan"

This is the series we just finished, but there was actually very little discussion. Anyone who wants to read it and add to the discussion, please do. I would join the conversation since I just read it with the group.

message 46: by Antonis (last edited Nov 10, 2014 09:26AM) (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 27 comments The question with Gemmell's Legend and the Drenai Saga is how many books are we going to read from the series ? There are something like 11 books in total, are we going to read them all? 2015: the Gemmell year? :p
http://www.goodreads.com/series/40522...

If I'm not mistaken the Rigante numbers 4 books (for some reason it's called a trilogy though...).
https://www.goodreads.com/series/4284...

message 47: by Helen (new)

Helen I say we do all the Drenai, assuming it gets through. I read four random ones years ago and enjoyed them so it would be good to do the lot.

message 48: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 49 comments The Year of Gemmell... that has a nice ring to it I will second that.

message 49: by Lovish (new)

Lovish I'd like to nominate Seven Realms by Cinda Williams Chima

message 50: by Lovish (new)

Lovish And if that's also read previously, how about Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull
