Ian Hall (ian_hall) | 26 comments Il second tower and knife trilogy

message 52: by Todd (new)

Todd I second Drenai/Legend books I've read half, but go off task.

message 53: by Cameron (new)

Cameron | 2 comments I'll nominate the Sovereign of the Seven Islands series. Last book came out this year. I just started on the first, so I can't say whether it's really good or not, but it has been entertaining so far.

Isn't that your own book?

we need some more seconds here!

message 57: by Antonis (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 27 comments If it's that important then I can use my seconding vote for one. Rules of Ascension looks the more interesting to me compared to the other 4 so it gets my second.

message 58: by Keith (new)

Keith (keithwha) | 2 comments I'll nominate Michelle West's The Sun Sword series.
https://www.goodreads.com/series/4135...
Very good series I read about 10 years ago. It's similar to Malazan in scope and some of it's concepts, subject matter and world-building. It's an unsung/under-appreciated series imo that's hard to find in depth discussion of, so I'd definitely like if more people started reading & discussing it

message 59: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel I second sun sword series.

okay-Post 60 is up-to-date, and we have 11 series nominated--most of which look pretty interesting!

I will leave this up until this afternoon to see if we have any more response, and then start the poll.

message 61: by Spencer (new)

Spencer | 1 comments I would like to second shadowmarch. I've been meaning to reading this series recently, but would love to have others to read it with!

This is my all-time favorite work by Donaldson. One of my top ten books I've ever ready (if you take them as a duology together).

message 63: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 50 comments I'd really like to see Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn in the poll. I know that will put two series by Williams in the list, but can I use my nomination for it?

message 64: by Jakub (new)

Jakub (jnareb) | 12 comments I recommend "Elenium" trilogy by David Eddings: The Diamond Throne, The Ruby Knight and The Sapphire Rose.

message 65: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 64 comments I will second Thinblade

message 66: by Cameron (new)

Cameron | 2 comments I'll second Kushiel's Scion.

message 67: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 51 comments I suppose I'll second the Elenium, then! It's a limited series in many ways, but it's also an important part of the history of the genre, it has good elements, and I recently re-read it. I think it would be interesting to see what people these days thought of it.

I already threw out another 'double', so I cant make an exception

message 69: by Eugene (new)

Eugene | 1 comments I second the Rules of Ascension.

ok-closing thread and creating poll now!

message 71: by Maggie, The Malazan Queen of Chaos (new)

Maggie K | 1209 comments Mod
well, we have winners!

Promise of Blood-Powder Mage trilogy
The Sword of Shannara Trilogy and
Legend-Drenai -9 books

so since the drenai is longer, if we start Drenai in January, and do the powder mage after long price starting in March, followed by Shannara in June we will be set with reads up until September.

Does this sound good? Anyone have other options/ideas???

message 72: by Antonis (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 27 comments Sounds good to me! A nice mix of new and traditional fantasy! If I find the time I will try to read all of them.

message 73: by Helen (new)

Helen | 2 comments Sounds like a plan. When I read Legend with a group just over a year ago, I decided to read the whole lot. I never did!

message 74: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 51 comments I'm curious to see how many people actually survive 11 volumes of Drenai novels... even I-as-a-teenager couldn't do that!

Unfortunately, as the series goes on... it's not so much that they become worse (maybe they do, I don't remember) but that they get more and more repetitive...

...then again, hats off to anybody who can make it through the whole Shannara trilogy. Teenage me did, but only due to a holiday stuck where no other books were available. It's the same book written three times... and that book is a sparknotes commentary on the Lord of the Rings.

message 75: by Helen (new)

Helen | 2 comments I've not read all of Gemmell, but enjoyed reading all of Shannara back to back a few years ago. There must've been at least eleven.

I know, it's very unfortunate. I don't plan to read any of these, so we are actively looking for people willing to moderate. Please message me if anyone is willing!

So this is The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara, and not any of the other Shannara books, right?

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 343 comments Mod
Think I can safely say, yup!
The original trilogy.

message 79: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 64 comments Could we read Promise of Blood after the Shannara books? That way I may actually be able to get it from the library. What does the moderator have to do? I may be willing to do the Legend books.

sorry about that-sometimes newer series are hard to get for library users. This series 3rd book is out in February, so its all pretty new.

Nope, thanks. If we were reading all the related books, I would probably reread the original ones to remind myself about them so I could go on to the other related series, but since it's just the originals, I doubt if I'll even reread them at this time.

message 83: by Helen (new)

Helen | 2 comments Drenai and continuing with book 3 of Daniel Abraham Long Knife.

message 84: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 8 comments I nominate Legend by Gemmel, and second Black Sun Rising.

Michael Sullivan | 2 comments mistborn trilogy by brandon sanderson
