A quick and light read but also very engaging and with deep feelings.

You're welcome. If you want more "free" romance audio, there is a podcast run by the authors who write as Alexa Riley. It's call Read Me Romance. New additions come weekly. The authors chat for a bit, then introduce the week's book (short story/novella). The recordings are usually an hour or so.

The stories are written by a variety of authors. I can't promise every entry is great, but while you practice your language skills, you may find new authors to read. :o)

Karen (xkamx) | 101 comments ** Sinner (Legacy of Kings #1) by Piper Stone ** Seducer (Legacy of Kings #2) by Piper Stone ** Seducer (Legacy of Kings #2) by Piper Stone **

Just finished the Piper Stone's three-book Legacy of Kings series.

*01 Sinner - Xander & Jessica
*02 Seducer - Zachariah & Sara
*03 Seducer - Wilder & Cassandra

I rated all three 3.5 (rolled to 4 because I liked them more than a 3.0 rating--and I haven't perfected my "PamG" spreadsheet!. There were things I liked and didn't like about each story, including the fact that they all started out slow. However, they held my interest with their three mysteries interwoven with one mystery that shadows all the books. And, I liked that the women were strong characters, equals to their men.

The series is listed as "dark," and with the subject matter, it is. Plus the first book started a bit creepy for my liking, but not so horrible that I'd put it down. The other negative... While the stories are complete, I felt there were threads left hanging. There is an overall satisfactory ending, that isn't negated by the "threads," but I prefer when all my questions are answered.

Karen (xkamx) | 101 comments Sterling Touch (Sterling Falls, #6) by L.B. Dunbar
Finished Sterling Touch by L.B. Dunbar (from her Sterling Falls series).

This is the sixth book of (what is now at least) a seven-book series about a family living in Sterling Falls. This features the youngest sibling, Valentine (Vale) Sylver. The previous five and the seventh feature Vale's six older brothers. I've rated all the previous entries 3.5-4 (with any 3.5s rolled up). This one is a 2.5 rolled up to 3. I just did not enjoy this entry. I liked the featured couple okay, but I just could not connect with their "romance" and I really don't know why. The story seemed a bit disjointed??? And, I felt a bit let down at the end (because I wanted something that didn't happen--at least in this story; maybe it'll come out in the next entry??).

Whatever it was, in the end I was left wanting more and feeling "meh"--not hating it, but not really liking it either. (Though, I liked it more that I disliked it, thus the roll-up). Plus, there were a couple of threads left hanging. They might be wrapped up in the next story, so I'm trying not to be annoyed that we don't know what happens(ed) with those situations.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Mystery / Police Procedural, but so much more
1st book in the Casey Duncan / Rockton series.

This is a favorite series in one of my discussion groups. I first heard of this series when book seven was released. I read it as well as the books that have been released in the Haven’s Rock spin-off series. I am now going back and reading the first 6 books in the series.

It was great to get Casey’s full backstory in this one. I also enjoyed watching Casey and Rockton Sheriff Eric Dalton get to know and respect each other and learn his backstory as well.

Complex characters, multiple mysteries, and excellent world-building are the backdrop for this well-written and entertaining novel set in an off-the-grid sanctuary town.
