Sristy (sweet_annihilation) I don't know why but I just don't enjoy the books recommended to me by Goodreads. So, can anyone recommend me GOOD Fanatsy Books with Romance as SUBPLOT NOT the complete focus i.e NOT a PNR .
But...
A GOOD PNR with KickSassy AND Badass Chick and an EQUALLY powerful love Interest would be acceptable...

My best reads -
Magic Bites
Vampire's Kiss👈 This is NOT At All a Vamp based book
Some Girls Bite
PS-I don't mostly generally like Vampire- Centered Books so if you could refrain from recommending them I would be a helluva lot of greatful.😋
Wildfire
Getting Wilde
Blood Oath
The Culling Trials

✨ Academy Books with NON-WHINY AND KICKSASS chick lead with NO REV-HAREM are also appreciated.

✨ Recs for GOOD Fantasy books-(UF as well as Epic but please not Historical..) other than conventional and tradition - vamp, shifter, etc are beholden.(view spoiler)

PS- If anyone can recommend GOOD lists on Goodreads, it would also be helpful.
PPS-Definition of GOOD may vary from place to place but please do not neglect the provided definition when recommending-

A book is GOOD if -
1.It has a KickSassy, Badass Chick IN the FIRST person.
2. It does NOT have a Passive Male Counterpart.
3. The chick is not a whiny-complaining-of-the-big-bad-world-bitch
4. Chick saves the world, involved in World Domination, Assassinations yada yada..
5.Read from 1 again...

Thanks

I know I am asking for nothing but 3 arms and 4 legs but it would Okay if you could even get me 4 arms and 3 legs ...😉😋

A. Hall (tenover10) | 8 comments Not sure if it fits exactly but Moon Burned was really good. I love the main gal for her "give no f***s" fighting attitude yet as the book goes on, she grows and develops more complex emotions. It's not romance focused but actually about Rook being a wolf shifter slave in these huge gladiator-esque fights. However, there is a romantic subplot with one of the overseers pursuing her.

The Blacksmith Queen (The Scarred Earth Saga, #1) by G.A. Aiken

Oath Taker (Kingdom of Runes #1) by Audrey Grey

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop (Not shifters like you've ever read before.)

Also, Patricia Briggs writes two series on par with Kate Daniels, but they do involve shifters. (Although, a big part of Kate Daniels is about shifters, so sort of that kind of deal.)

Sristy (sweet_annihilation) Thanks, Amanda and Georgina.
I would love to try the recs.
I don't hate shifter books but I have had my fill of them. Actually, I don't find any more Shifter or Vamp books with plots that I haven't already read or can't predict from Mars or that are Not-too-PNRish.

KD was the ultimate exception- A shifter guy treating his love interest AS AN EQUAL (Alpha) and the said chick is not whining about fake Independence .
Hallelujah! I waited for the other shoe to drop but you know what
The other shoe didn't drop - It was stuck with Fevikwik. Thank Heavens.

But have you by any chance encountered the Angels/Demons Non-Clicheic-Non-Sappy GOOD Fantasy Book WITH romance?
I haven't read much from this category.

Georgiana | 9 comments There are a lot of great books out there.

As I said earlier, if you liked KD you will like
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs (The heroine is the definite star of the show and the romance dynamic is similar to KD).

Angels/Demons not generally my thing but

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee was a good series and well liked.

Also: Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

and

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas .

Lot's of great reads. I hope you find something you enjoy.

Robin (rockin_robin) | 81 comments Have you tried Cynthia Eden? She has some good pnr. I think one series had a demon and a fallen angel as characters if I'm thinking of the right author.

Sristy (sweet_annihilation) I am more of the fantasy-loving kind of gal rather than the PNRish one.Romance Should be a subplot.
I like to experiment with other fantasy themes besides the cliched vamp, shifter but I am pretty much a goner for a Sarcastic KickSass Female lead (Preferably one in the profession of assassination, world domination and yada yada) in any kind of Fantasy with tidbits of romance with a Non-passive (aka Not like Owen from Gin Blanco series ) and Anti-heroish love interests.

But hey, I'll try it out. Who knows it shall turn out to be a GOOD book. Those are so so rare these days, more so I think in UF genre.

Touched
(The Marnie Baranuik Files #1)

&&
Bitten

&&
Dead Witch Walking

I would love to try these book but can you assure me of your experience. I have been burnt after finishing more than 50 % of the book so I am nothing if not cautious in these Crucial Matters.
Sorry!

Of course everyone is different, and you may not end up liking some of my recommendations, but I have personally read and loves all the series that I posted links to ☺️. The only things I warn about is Dead Witch Walking was not my favourite in the series but it gets really good. I gave book 1 3 stars, book 2 4 stars, and every book after that got 5 stars. Then my other warning is that Touched (and the rest of the series) has some editing mistakes throughout. Normally bad editing bothers the crap out of me, but the storytelling and characters are so great I’m willing to forgive the mistakes in this series. Hope you enjoy!

BarbaraAnn | 43 comments I’ll second Kelley Armstrong’s books. So far I’ve enjoyed everything she’s written. To add a couple authors that I don’t see recced a lot, I’d recommend the Witch Moon series by Maria E. Schneider or Diana Pharaoh Francis she has some pure fantasy series and several urban fantasy series I’ve enjoyed

Sristy (sweet_annihilation) Thanks ! - Jennifer and BarbaraAnn. I would give them a try.

But do you happen to know books with Female lead as Assassins In FIRST person POV? I am feeling particularly Unscrupulous at the moment and am just itching to read a book with a wicked heroine.(But please not a psychotic one).If there is Powerful (view spoiler) Chemistry b/w the Love Interest (view spoiler) and the Badass Chick Lead, I would heartily devour it.

message 16: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Wheeler Sorry, I’m not aware of anything like what you’re describing. I personally don’t usually enjoy first person POV as much as third person. Part of Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series is first person, and has kick-ass female leads, but it’s nothing to do with assassins.

message 17: by BarbaraAnn (new)

BarbaraAnn | 43 comments It's not urban fantasy but Kelley Armstrong has several books about a female assassin and I think they're all first person. The first one is Exit Strategy

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Wheeler Oh I forgot about that series! I own it but haven’t read it yet. I love everything I’ve read from Kelley Armstrong except for The Masked Truth.

This series might work! I enjoyed it quite a lot and I think the slow burn romance with the hero is secondary to the actual supernatural plot.

Darkness Haunts (The Sensor, #1) by Susan Illene Darkness Haunts by Susan Illene

Thanks Amy !! I have added it to my TBR.

But do you know how KickSass is Melena? How is her chemistry with her love interest?

PS: I appreciate the book because it has romance as a secondary plot but passive heroes just don't do for me.
For eg, Gin Blanco was Awesome Assassin with a capital A'(s) but her chemistry with Owen - I think it started degrading after just a few encounters to negatives. As a result of which after 3-4 books, I quitted the series.😟😟

Marsha | 48 comments A series that I recently discovered is the Three Mages and a Margarita (The Guild Codex Spellbound, #1) by Annette Marie and the rest of the books in the series.
