Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments My cats are really old, I think we surprised the vet a little. He could tell he was really old though and called him 'a proper gentleman'. I think animals are living longer now, my friends cats are both over 16 too. Good living? :)

I have been slightly harassed today but I am making good progress on my book. I'll pick my others just now and then get stuck in. Tomorrow is going to be another busy one with the kids. Happy reading everyone!!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Sorry I'm late on my book. My DIL had to go back in the hospital for 24 hours for HBP after the baby was born. I sat and held the baby so she and my son could sleep.

I have started my N book and I will look and see what I have for this week and post it later.

Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews by Ilona Andrews
11/11/14 5★

Review: Awesome start to a new series by the writing duo. I loved the world they are creating - very unique, but it was the characters that completely drew me in. Nevada was an intriguing mix of tough and vulnerable (my favorite!) and Connor was amazing. In addition, the side characters were great as well. Can't wait to read the next one.

Sandra | 25911 comments We had a 42C day today (over 104F) and we kept getting micro power interruptions, 7 in all. Never happened before. Which meant I got sick of it and turned off the computer, which also meant I couldn't read my freebies :(

Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Just had to start Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh which I've got in paperback - no technology required. LOL

message 165: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Enjoy! I can't wait to read that one & Burn For Me arrived too... Grrr...Lol. I am about 76% into my LO read. Will finish it after a little after school shopping with the munchkins. We're going for supplies for a movie night. I had hoped to get more done today but life had other plans.

Born in Blood (The Sentinels, #1) by Alexandra Ivy

LO found in title, free via bloghop win.

Finished: 14/11/14
Rated: 4 Stars

My Review: This book surprised me. I really wasn't sure what to expect, it took me a few books to get into the Guardians of Eternity series and I expected this to be the same, however I found I liked it more. It's darker than GOE and I love that. I'm expecting good things from the next one!

message 168: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Michelle, I was surprised by the book as well. I'm looking forward to the next one.

And Hannah Rose and Mom are doing well. Just spent the evening over there. Baby is now over 6lbs. and mom is feeling much better. Thanks!!

Review:Not a bad entry into the series and we see more clearly what the Atlanteans are up to. I had a hard time getting into the main characters in this story but they definitely had their sweet momnets.

Sandra | 25911 comments I read Born in Blood (The Sentinels, #1) by Alexandra Ivy some time ago and preordered the next one straight after. Hopefully not too long to wait now.

Loving Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh pity I can't use it for bingo, but it is in a few other challenges.

Sandra | 25911 comments To Light The Dragon's Fire (Dragons, Griffons and Centaurs, Oh My! #1) by Margaret Taylor
Shelf: LO
Date: 16/11/14
Rating: 4★

This story is pure fantasy, with dragons, evil unicorns, griffons, orcs, ogres, chimeras, beautiful twins and magic.

Terra & Lanni go rock climbing, find a cave, come across a dragon, are taken to their capital city where Terra meets the Dragon King, Draven.

But the evil unicorn, Golix, saw a prophecy long ago about Draven meeting his Queen and has been working for centuries to change the outcome.

Typical fantasy plot of misdirection, deaths that aren't actual deaths, regicide plots and traitorous friends and pirates.

Now I have to keep reading to find out what happens as this ends on a cliffhanger.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments King's (The King Trilogy, #1) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Shelf: LO (in series name: The King Trilogy)
Date: 10/11/14
Rating: 4 stars

I was intrigued with unanswered questions Mimi Jean Pamfiloff waves at us. What happened to Mia's brother? What kind of paranormal creature King is? What is real and what are Mia's hallucinations.
Book is full of action, intrigue and mystery.
Heroine has bad moments (drama and stupid decisions) but sometimes she said some smart stuff too.
Nice twist of the usual billionaire cliche.

In the end, King's is one of those books that either works for you or don't.

Sandra | 25911 comments Captured (Fallen Siren, #0.5) by S.J. Harper
Shelf: HA
Date: 16/11/14
Rating: 3★

This shorty prequel, written after the 1st book in the series, relates how Zack & Emma (Monroe), both FBI agents, though Zack is a werewolf & Emma is a siren, met. Zack has no clue that Emma understands his situation or what she is.

Monroe is sent from San Diego to Charleston to assist Zack when they tackle a child abduction/murder case. The mystery was well done for a shorty and the sexual tension between them was obvious.

Looking forward to book 2 Reckoning (Fallen Siren, #2) by S.J. Harper

Sandra | 25911 comments Declan and Tori (The Hunters, #1) by Shiloh Walker
Shelf: D
Date: 17/11/14
Rating: 4★

Declan a cop, and also a werewolf wants Tori, a PI, as his mate. He isn't having much luck persuading her to go out even though he knows she wants him. He doesn't know she has a thing against dating cops.

Tori saves a girl who claims she was bitten by a vampire, which of course is just ridiculous. Investigating leads her to someone 'other' and she shakes off the odd feelings and shoots him and runs.

Declan isn't available cause he's out of town and she must face the 'vampire' only with the help of her gun and the strange voice in her head which tells her what to do to survive the coming attack.

There is quite a bit of sexy time, both m/f & m/f/m, in this short so if that isn't your thing, I'd move along. If it is, enjoy.

Really enjoyed this first in series story which I've had on my tbr for a long time. Don't know why I waited so long.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I forget how much I love that series and the author's writing style. And I just wasn't in the mood for Harry. I'm sure it will be good.

message 181: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments I understand your problem Leslie. And I'm glad to hear you found the book to suit your mood. :)

I'm switching my HA book from Chandrea - The Return of the Avatar Queen to Red and Her Wolf (author name: Marie Hall). Just could not get into 'Chandrea'. It had too much ya vibe for 23-year-old main character....

message 182: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I love fairytale retellings! I went and picked up all 3 of Marie Hall's Kingdom series books (they were free on Amazon). Awesome!!

message 183: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments They are not classic retellings, but they do use some elements from fairy tales. I hope you will like them!

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments I hope it stays interesting Michelle.

I'm having troubles myself. Nothings keeps my interest. :/ I've abandoned my HA book (for now) and started reading for D shelf: The Diabolical Miss Hyde (Electric Empire, #1) by Viola Carr (free ebook from Edelweiss). I hope this one will keep my attention...

message 187: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 18, 2014 07:13AM) (new)

Sorry I've been AWOL for a while team. I totally forgot to give a heads up. I was away for my brother's marriage. He is now happily married, and the function was simply awesome! Indian weddings are no simple matter, actually and this one was as traditional and grand as could be-which means non-stop work for the sister-me!!!

Anyway, with all of that, I couldn't even come to GR to look at the shelves this week. I've already started Six Months (Seven, #2) by Dannika Dark for the D shelf. This was a gift from a friend, and I've been having this ever since this book was released, and somehow haven't had the interest in reading it. I'm going to give this book a second chance now.

message 188: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm still searching my HA book, and I'm trying hard to find some freebie that I have and not go to the library to pick up something I want instead.

Also, I just noticed that my choices so far have been less from my already existing freebie pile and more from other acceptable sources for this round. Bad Me!!! Is this just me, or is anyone else doing the same thing?

message 189: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments So glad you had an amazing time, Preethi! Congrats to your brother on his wedding, I hope they are very happy together :)

Choosing books hasn't been as easy as I thought to be honest and it has barely made a dent in my free pile. It would probably help if I didn't keep picking up more though.

Author name, Free via publisher

Extreme Measures (Aegis Security, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton

Read: 18/11/14
Rated: 3 Stars

My Review: Looking at this book it has everything I normally love in a romantic suspense. A strong alpha male with black ops/spy type background, a strong kick ass female, secrets, deception and a mystery to unravel. It just wasn't executed well.

I really don't know what I didn't like about this one, initially I struggled because the author kept changing between a characters real name and alias in a conversation and it was headache inducing. I'm hoping this was sorted before the book went to print. It did pick up but I wasn't really invested in the characters at all. I have the next one and I will read it, I'm hoping it's better than this one.

Sandra | 25911 comments ***Stamp Dance***

Off to request our N shelf stamp, good work teamies!!

As to freebies vs library, there was some discussion of that on the discussion thread and other team threads.

All mine have been freebies, but my tbr has still grown, like always, so I don't think it really matters.

Preethi, if you're still looking for a HA book, the one I used is still free for both kindle & ebook and is the prequel so you won't be jumping in out of sequence. Captured (Fallen Siren, #0.5) by S.J. Harper

message 194: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Preethi - I am having the same problem! My TBR has definitely grown, not shrunk.
And congratulations on your brother's wedding! I know how much work they can be even when they are fun.

From the books I have read half were Kindle freebies and other half from other sources. But my pile have just grown in size. My biggest problem is that I am again downloading them in bigger quantities because I have this Bingo as excuse. :D
I just downloaded 6 free Kindle ebooks - Grimm Diaries prequels #1 Snow White Blood Red trough #6 Blood Apples...
