Shelf #11 Military

Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan
Read: 12/1/2019
Rating: ****
I really enjoyed this book and recommend the series highly to anyone who likes epic fantasy with a military spin. This is the first book in McClellan’s second trilogy in the same world and I would definitely suggest starting with the first trilogy.
The pacing is excellent and keeps the book exciting throughout. The characters are well developed and interesting. There is an invasion from another country on top of a rebellion within the country, so there’s lots of action. I particularly liked one of the new POV characters, Michel Bravis, who is an assuming man who rises to the occasion.

I will get my military review posted and request our completed shelves. We are up to date and will just need to complete our Military and spin off shelves.

I had a great time playing with y’all!
Going to go ahead and search my book now.

Book: Alaska Wild by Helen Newberry
Finished: 12/3
Rating: 4.5 stars
Review:
This was a fun action adventure romance. It was my first time reading by Helen Newberry and has made me very interested in what else she has to offer. I really liked both characters. They were both smart and capable and pushed through their fears when it mattered most. The reason I docked half a star is because initially it was presented to readers that Boone overcame his SEVERE PTSD because of his love of Kate. I think that's super inaccurate and does a disservice to people with mental health issues. It is addressed in the prologue about him being in therapy but the way it was initially presented was not accurate and weird. Other than that, I really liked reading this story.
Oh a nitpicky comment: I'm tired of reaching about characters named Kate and Rebecca and all their variations. There are so many other names out there.
Oh one more nitpicky: It would have been nice to see some of the indigenous aspects of Alaska somehow incorporated in this story. It was pretty white.

REVIEW:
I couldn't wait to get into Mason's story. Mason is the werewolf King and plays a big part in the war that is being fought against evil. He is so much more powerful than we have been led to believe in the previous books. So many secrets and unknowns are revealed. Great twist and turns. Great addition to the series.
