what are you currently reading?

I find it amusing that Koontz was mentioned in this book.
In verbatim "Just as Lucy was deciding she'd have to settle for an ..."
Vincent, I too liked DR. SLEEP but found it more suspenseful than scary ,except for the "baseball boy" scene. Loved how Abra kicked Rose's a$$ = dynamite!

I want to read more Stephen King. I am impressed with his writing. Most recently I finished The Green Mile.

When he wants to tell a good story there are few who can touch him.....but some of his books have disappointed.....I don't give up on him though.

Barbara, I think that many King fans seem to be disappointed at his newer novels because they are not his typical Horror / Hide in the Closet type books; they are more suspenseful than horror , as I said above w/ DR. SLEEP. However, after his long career, I, for one, like to see him veering off into different directions , and I still love his "situations" , his stories and his characters so, I am not one of the unhappy ones. And, his newer novels make me think more, like REVIVAL, and that's not a bad thing :)

Where did you find a copy?

Where did you find a copy?
To Betsy and/or Barbara: What are your favorite Stephen King Books and/or which would you most highly recommend? I have read & enjoyed Carrie, Duma Key, The Green Mile, Full Dark, No Stars, Just After Sunset. I didn't like Under The Dome as much.

Where did you find a copy?"
I was surprised to find one in my library network. I was fooling around with the search function and I was doing his older books. I was getting no results until I finally hit on one.
I finished reading it and I liked it. I could tell it was one of his early works as the characters were not developed enough (one of the reasons I enjoy his work is Dean's development of characters). That being said I enjoyed the storyline esp. considering when it was written.

Hey Crazy, When I was "younger" and wanted a terrific scare, I enjoyed: SALEM'S LOT, THE SHINING, THE STAND, PET SEMATARY, IT, and MISERY. Then there were some that "got to me" but were more just darn good stories: STAND BY ME, SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, 11/22/63. Now, I'm "into" his newer stuff which has more suspense than horror; I liked: DR. SLEEP, MR. MERCEDES and his current REVIVAL. To me, you can't go too wrong with King= GREAT characters/ GREAT stories even when he's not scaring the beejeebers out of you. King says that he's a "kick a$$ storyteller" and I would heartily agree.

The Shining
The Stand
The Dark Tower series
Bag of Bones
The Talisman....written with Peter Straub....a personal favorite of all time...book
Salems Lot
Carrie
Needful Things
Firestarter
Cycle of the Werewolf
Duma Key
Doctor Sleep
Some of your Stephen King Listings made me remember others I have read: 11/22/63, Firestarter and Pet Cemetary.
I am most interested in reading Revival, Doctor Sleep, Mr. Mercedes, Bag of Bones, The Talisman.
It might be until January until I get into Stephen King. I have to finish about a dozen more books for my GR Reading Challenge and Stephen Kings books tend to be more lengthy than my typical 200-300 page novels. You will surely hear about it when I do try Stephen King again.
The last Stephen King book I read was 11/22/63. I love anything about time travel and alternate realities :-)

I'm re-reading it now, after 30 years, so that I can intelligently read Black House, the sequel.

Well, that makes The Talisman higher in priority now :-) Thank you for letting me know.

I have yet to restart Relentless, but December isn't over yet.

The Stephen King Fans Group had a great discussion going on re. REVIVAL = very thought-provoking and insightful! Maybe you were part of that discussion? I too really liked REVIVAL !! But then, I liked DR. SLEEP and MR. MERCEDES, both his newer books also.

Come baaaaaaaaaaaaack , Dustin; I think that you will be pleasantly surprised!

I am to DC and just last night I checked it out (because I haven't been on there in a long time either) and they have changed it somewhat. I was trying to find the other Dustin (we were friends on there before) but I couldn't find how to find my friends. I didn't stay on there long.

Laura, I am really enjoying King's newest books: loved DR. SLEEP, MR. MERCEDES and REVIVAL. Guess that I don't need horror anymore as I much prefer sustained suspense. Happy Reading!

I'm re-reading it, and then Seize the Night, in the expectation and anticipation of reading Ride The Storm in 2015!!! (It's already on my Goodreads 'want to read' list!)
Reading this again, it seems clear that Chris Snow is sort of an early model for Odd Thomas, in that he's around the same age and has the same relationship with his girlfriend...actually, all Dean's characters seem to have that exact same relationship with their girlfriends, so forget I said that. I like to think he models it on his own with Gerda, which means he's very lucky.
Ok...back to reading now.
Have you heard news that Ride The Storm will published in 2015? I hadn't heard, but will look on Goodreads to see if it is listed.

Yes. I believe my original posting was back in 2009. You are correct, with Odd Thomas completed, I think there is more of a chance of Christopher Snow's story finally being completed as well, with Ride The Storm.
Ride the Storm has been promised by Dean for many years. There is a discussion topic on this subject in the Chris Snow Folder where you will find quotes referring to Ride The Storm being started years ago and that Dean plans to finish it.

I'm in total agreement with you, Betsy!

Happy New Year everyone. I'm about to start reading Innocence today. I'm so excited, it looks like a good one.

I find it amusing that Koontz was mentioned in this book.
In verbatim "Just as Lucy was deciding she'd have to settle for an old Dean Koontz and a slightly newer Lisa Gardner..."
