Hey guys, here's a link to the audio of Neil Gaiman's talk at the Long Now Foundation that I mentioned at our last meeting: http://longnow.org/seminars/02015/jun...
Borderlands is having an author event (Hugh Howey!) the last Monday of this month, and that uses the cafe, so our meetup will be the last Tuesday instead - Tue, July 28th.
RSVP here!
I'll likely make an meetup event for Howey as well, because heck yeah we should go to that, too.
And please feel free to add an S&L meetup for an author event in the Bay Area that you think people might be interested in. I've been focusing on Borderlands events because it's easy/convenient, but it'd be great for us to branch out and see more, and in various locations, so people who can't make SF can make other meetups.

Aw man! I wish I can make it. I'm visiting a friend in San Jose for a couple of weeks and unfortunately, that's the day when I fly in! I guess I didn't time this well at all. :(
Just made an event for a Wesley Chu and Helene Wecker at Borderlands a week from this Saturdayhttps://www.goodreads.com/event/show/...
I'll probably be at Dandelions drinking chocolate before the event.
Thanks, Ian!
Keidy, bummer! I'll be on the lookout for any August author events we could add as S&L events.

Jo Walton is getting her TipTree award at Borderlands on August 9. http://file770.com/?p=21755In general lot's of stuff happening in August as authors make a west coast tour that coincides with Sasquan.
Man. I hope this doesn't happen in August. Then again I guess an author signing would be cool too.
I fly in 8/27 and out crack of dawn 9/2. Hopefully the meeting for 8/31 works out.

I'll be there on August 9th! I wanna go! I'll try to make it there! XD
Heh. Ordinarily I would have been there August 9th too. But I pushed it back so I can hopefully do the meetup.
@Rob: I woulda liked to do the meetup too. But who knows. I'm actually going there to see if I can find a job there. (I have a return ticket so I have two weeks to see if it's a good time right now). If I end up staying, I can totally attend the next meetup. Fingers crossed. I'm ready to get the hell out of Chicago. ^_^v
My sister lives there. I'm visiting her for a week and dragging her along. Hopefully she'll read the August pick, even if I have to buy her a copy myself.
She reads SFF too, just not as much as I do. She somehow neglected to take me to Borderlands during my previous visits. There is a ton to see and do there..but still..no excuse!
Good luck with your job hunt!

In the latest S&L, the hosts mentioned they were going to be at Con-volution and it's even true:http://con-volution.com/2015/conventi...
I got membership for myself and my wife today. Looks like fun, I was sold when I saw that the gaming tables are sponsored by the Berkeley board game store. It's at one of the SFO hotels. The theme is meta - fandom. So I guess show up in a sad puppy cosplay? LOL.
@Rob: LOL! That sounds like an adventure! Good luck with your own meetup! ^_^v@Ulmer Ian: HEY! Veronica Belmont is gonna be in this! I WANNA GO! Damnit! I gotta move to Cali pronto! >.<
Yet another event, tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm at Borderlands (of course). This sounds dorky in all the right ways:http://journal.swantower.com/2015/07/...
Marie Brennan and cast of folks are helping her friend launch a book. I was already thinking of maybe going to this book launch, since it's not like I had other plans, but now I'm going for sure lol.
I will not be at the meetup next week, since it's on Vaginal Fantasy night! But have a drink for me ;)
We had a great turnout for bookclub last night, and, in what might be a first, EVERYONE had finished the book! :D
Next bookclub meetup is Mon, Aug 31
RSVP for bookclub
(I won't make the Aug bookclub, that day I'll be returning from lazing at Lake Shasta.)
I also created an event for the Jo Walton receiving the Tiptree Award party on Sun, Aug 9, since it sounded like Keidy could make that during her visit and Ian sounded interested too:

Aww. That's a shame. Though it shows you as going (probably because that's the default when you create an event).
Anyways, I'll be there, plus my sister. Maybe I can get her interested in the club.

I didn't want to ask here so as not to clutter up this thread, but I'm looking for suggestions for stuff to do during my SF trip besides this meetup if any of you have suggestions.
I created a thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
If you guys have an suggestions, please post them there. Thanks!

Whoohoo on a year plus for us!
I'm sorry I didn't make it to the Walton event Sun. Anyone else make it?

Yep, it was great fun. There was singing and cake. And interesting discussion on genre Because Walton.https://twitter.com/eean/status/63053...
We had a great turnout last night, and it especially fun to meet forum moderator Rob in person!

Hey Rosemary and Rue is the pick for this month's Vaginal Fantasy. Want to make this an official alt for us? I read it last year but remember it still and it might be fun to discuss. It takes place in San Francisco.
Sadly I won't make the September meetup..but I had a lot of fun at the August one! It was nice meeting everyone.
This was the best picture "overall" I think. Some of the pictures are better for individuals. I'll try to link those once I post them somewhere.

Has a date been determined for the next meetup after the next meetup (the next meetup after September 28)?
Ann Leckie is going to be in Borderland Books on October 10th!!! Yup. I'm still here in California. Still job hunting but ah well... hopefully I'll land a job here soon. In the meantime, I might be able to go to Borderlands for this month's meetup! (All depends on my job-hunting schedule, but I have hope. ^_^v).For anyone else interested in Ann Leckie's tour dates, here is the 411: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...
It turns out I'm not going to make it next Monday's (Sept 28) meetup, but I *can* make it to that Ann Leckie/Greg Bear appearance Oct 10th! I've made an event for it:
RSVP for Ann Leckie and Greg Bear at Borderlands, Sat, Oct 10, 3pm
David, the Oct meetup should be Mon, Oct 26 - I'll confirm when I have that for sure.

Anyone else going to Convolution this weekend at the Hyatt Regency SFO? I'm going tomorrow (Sat) to catch the Sword & Laser panel at 10am.
Anyone going to see Sanderson this Fri at Borderlands from 12-3pm? It's actually easier for me to play hooky from work during the day and get to borderlands than to make it to the meetups in the evenings, so I'll be there, at least for a bit :)
I finally came back from San Francisco from the Ann Leckie and Greg Bear at Borderlands! It was my first time at Borderlands and MAN was it quite the hike all the way from Sunnyvale, CA! I don't think I can make it to this awesome book store for more than just special events every so often, but I'm glad I finally experienced the infamous Borderlands. Ann Leckie was an absolute DOLL! I missed seeing her when I was in Chicago at the Nebula Awards (where I live). It's not like I didn't go to the public signing event, I did. Ann Leckie just didn't make it because she was coming in by train and there was a massive accident from the train before hers. Luckily she's okay and it wasn't her train (from what I remember the train collided with a truck full of bacon... or something like that. I don't remember the exact details. It wasn't a big accident but it was a messy clean up).Anyways, she said her apologies (which she didn't have to do). I was just curious if she heard about me since I made friends with the entire Nebula staff as I waited to see if Ann Leckie would show up at the last moment. Sad, I know. ^_^;
Also, it was my birthday so this was a great birthday present to myself to see one of my new favorite authors and chat with them a bit, have things signed, get awesome swag. I got this small manila envelope that is taped and says not to open until "you read Ancillary Mercy entirely". I got another different awesome pin and some cool looking silver stick-on tattoos.
Not only that but she personalized each of the three books that I brought for her to sign. With Ancillary Justice she apologized for missing me in Chicago. With Ancillary Sword she congratulated me on my birthday and with Ancillary Mercy she wrote "Justice Shall Prevail!", which is TOTALLY quotable btw. That on top of a really nice Q&A before the signing and I can say that it has been a very successful and satisfying day indeed. I'm still on a high from meeting Ann Leckie. She is totally awesome and I can't wait to see whatever projects she has planned in the future. ^_^v
Did I miss the date for October's meetup? I'm hoping to make it to one of these but I will need to change my work schedual (easy to do but I need a week in advance).
Keidy, glad you made it and got to meet Ann Leckie! Successful birthday indeed! :)
Michele, it's Mon, Oct. 26. I was delinquent adding the event, but now it's up:
