Read a couple of lovely middle-grade novels, both picked because of their beautiful covers. ;)1. The Nowhere Thief by Alice MacLennan Ross
An imaginative multiverse story.

2. A Breath of Mischief by MarcyKate Connolly
This one will work only for the right age group. But it is a fun story nonetheless.

Of course I knew of Louis Pasteur, but I had no idea he was responsible for preventing so many diseases (not to mention first figuring out what was spoiling French wines! 😊).Another great one for the kids (and their ignorant grown-ups).
5★ My review of Louis Pasteur with several illustrations
A Child's Goodbye by Ali Mercer
A mixed bag for me, but might work for the right reader.

Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death by Maria Vale
Great packaging, average content.

Heir of Uncertain Magic by Charlie N. Holmberg
Loved it *almost* as much as the first book in the series. Definitely worth a read for fans of historical fantasy.

David Hockney by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and artist Ana Albero is surprisingly open about his sexuality in this book for small children. I'm glad today's kids may not grow up as ignorant as a lot of us probably did.
5★ My review of David Hockney with several illustrations and photos
Finished The Lost War, (a re-publication)
the other day, and while the story was good, it didn't move at a quick pace... 3 Starshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Games and Rituals: Stories by Katherine Heiny
An entertaining slice-of-life anthology. Loved how realistic the emotions felt.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I loved Max Porter's latest novel, Shy and the boy for whom it is titled. Shy retreats into music at The Last Chance School to escape his memories. It's a wonderful, short gem of a book.
5★ My review of Shy
Kelly Link's new collection of seven stories, White Cat, Black Dog: Stories, is based on old folk and fairy tales. I can see why she's so popular. The ones I liked, I really liked. Others - not so much.
3★ My review of White Cat, Black Dog with a link to 'The New Yorker' article about both the book and its author
Fractured Oak is an unusual and entertaining mystery with an oak tree as a key witness who can't testify. Author Dannie Boyd mixes magical realism with a good police story and it works.
3.5~4★ My review of Fractured Oak
My Three Star Rating of "The Marriage Portrait," by Maggie O'Farrellhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Oh, Sister by Jodie Chapman
Will work for those who like cult fiction. The writing is a bit jumpy, but the theme makes it worth a read.

The Gifts: A Novel by Liz Hyder
An unusual historical fantasy. Won't work for everyone because of the length and the triggers, but if you are a lit fic + magical realism lover, do try this amazing book.

Just in time for his coronation comes King Charles, the attractive new addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I particularly liked the illustrations, many of which I've shared.
5★ My review of King Charles with illustrations
The Amazon Original Stories collection has been hit and miss for me. I was disappointed with The Days Before Us by Sejal Badani.
2.5~3★ My review of The Days Before Us
Chloe Gong's upcoming novel is as phenomenal as expected. Plot, world-building, and characters are all incredible!! It deserves all the love.
5★ My review of Immortal Longings
This is a DNF for me at 40%, really slow and not centered around the octopus at all !! 2* for
My review:

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto
Worked better for me as a comic drama than as a mystery. A fun though guessable read.

Hope Always Rises by Kathie Giorgio
A soothing Christian fiction about a not-so-soothing topic - people who choose to kill themselves. Won't work for everyone, but if you like this genre, it's a touching book.

In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune
Loved this. The audiobook narrator elevates the experience even further.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer
An imaginative continuation to the Timeless series, but not as outstanding as the first book. But it's still worth a read.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My Five Star review of Jillian Lauren's Courageous work called, "Behold the Monster,"https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Service by Sarah Gilmartin
A tough but worthwhile read. Good for lit-fic lovers.

Whoo boy! Endgame: An Insurgency on Wall Street by Sheelah Kolhatkar is a cracker of a short story about the shortcomings of the Big Guys (my term), and how outsiders are challenging them. The author knows her stuff. Available on NetGalley until May 16.
5★ My review of Endgame:An Insurgency on Wall Street
An Invitation to Seashell Bay: Part 1: All Things Crafty by Bella Osborne ⭐⭐ https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Making Friends With Monsters by Sandra L. Rostirolla
A YA novel dealing with several mental health 'monsters'. Goes a bit overboard with the themes, but otherwise, an amazing read.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer
Didn't like the main character, but the premise is good.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Pond is a curious meandering through the narrator's mind by Claire-Louise Bennett. Some stories are pointedly funny and self-deprecating, some are dreamy and philosophical.
4.5~5★ My review of Pond
Secrets of Clearwater Castle by Emma Davies
A nice start to a new women's fiction series.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Away With Words by Sophie Cameron
A powerful MG fiction.

Dawoud/Dawit/David's attempt to get from Eritrea to Israel meant he had to keep changing his identity and left him feeling like black foam, tossed around but never allowed to settle. In Black Foam: A Novel by Eritrean author Haji Jabir, you can see what he's up against. Moving and eye-opening.
4★ My review of Black Foam
Just finished
The Bedroom Window by K.L. SlaterKL SlaterA great psychological thriller. Here's my 5* review

One Moment in Time by Shari Low
A nice entertainer that balances fun and seriousness.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished The Blighted Stars
and was disappointed. I was expecting more action. 2 Starshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4 star review of a historical novel with romance called, "All the Pretty Places," By Joy Callaway.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Conspirators on the Dark Web don't need someone to have an internet presence in order to target them. In Aussie author Ashley Kalagian-Blunt's unsettling new book, Dark Mode, anyone is fair game - game as in being hunted for sport. Watch yourself!
4★ My review of Dark Mode
A wonderful historical novel worthy of Five ++ Stars called "Good Night Irene," by Luis Alberto Urreahttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Unbreakable Heart of Oliva Denaro by Viola Ardone
After a long time, found a winner. Loved this coming-of-age historical novel that is based on true facts.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
Warm and cuddly and mushy for the most part. A great light read despite some dark topics.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Sing Her Down by Ivy Pochoda
Not my kind of book due to its gritty violence, but I can see why this author is popular.
