An Invitation to Seashell Bay

An Invitation to Seashell Bay: Part 1: All Things Crafty

Rate this book
This is the first part of a new feel-good romantic comedy, published as a four-part serialised novel.

One ambitious businesswoman.

One irresponsible heir.

A deal that will turn both their lives upside down…

To save her business, All Things Crafty, Nancy is in desperate need of two things: help and money. After a pitch goes horribly wrong, Nancy is convinced she's failed to secure either. But, when a potential investor recommends an assistant, she jumps at the chance to hire them – hoping it will help her land a much-needed deal.

Enter Freddy Astley-Davenport, a notorious socialite with zero work experience. He’s poised to inherit his family’s estate in sunny Seashell Bay, but only if he can hold down a job for six months first. Nancy is not impressed. Freddy’s late, rude and totally incompetent – and that's just the first day!

Nancy is further horrified to learn of Freddy’s plan to take the assistant role in name only, then do the least work he possibly can, expecting Nancy to lie to his parents on his behalf. She has other ideas, though, and the pair butt heads from day one.

However, as they argue, sparks begin to fly…

An absolutely escapist, funny, feel-good summer romance. Fans of Cathy Bramley, Katie Fforde and Milly Johnson will adore Bella Osborne.

EXCERPT: 'Mind the gap,' said the voice over the Underground tannoy as more people squeezed into the already full carriage and Nancy felt like sausage meat being squeezed into a skin. Today was a blooming big day for Nancy. Big didn't really cover it. It was more of a make or break kind of a day. One of those pivotal points in life. What Nancy didn't know was whether it would be wall-to-wall celebrations or the day her life turned to absolute poo.

MY THOUGHTS: This is the first part of a new romantic comedy, published as a four-part serialised novel which, I'm sorry, is a stupid idea. Or in this case it is. It's as though someone has physically cut the book into four. It just stops.

I really would like to comply with the final sentences: Kill me now, thought Nancy. And be quick about it. Believe me, it would be my pleasure.

There's absolutely nothing to entice me to read the three following installments. And there's absolutely no mention of a Seashell Bay . . .

Disappointing. I have previously loved everything that I have read by this author.

THE AUTHOR: Bella's stories are about friendship, love and coping with what life throws at you. She likes to find the humor in the darker moments of life and weaves these into her stories. Bella believes that writing your own story really is the best fun ever, closely followed by talking, eating chocolate, drinking fizz, and planning holidays. She lives in the Midlands, UK with her lovely husband and wonderful daughter, who thankfully, both accept her as she is (with mad morning hair and a penchant for skipping). (Amazon)

Another great start to a new series from Bella. I enjoyed part one of this new series and look forward to part two soon. This one was funny and had the added interest of crafting which is one of my loves so, it was an extra bonus. Hope we won’t have to wait long for the next instalment. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

How exciting - a new series from this author! This book is only a short read, being Part 1 of a 4-part serialisation, and whilst you are usually left on a bit of cliffhanger at the end of each part, I'm just about patient enough to wait for the next one! This new series starts off really well, and had me laughing my way through the pages! We meet Nancy and Alice - friends and housemates! Alice being a teaching assistant and Nancy is running her own business, All Things Crafty! Both women have a lot going on in their lives, and the chapters are split between both of them! I did love the chapters though where they're back home together, going over what was happening and trying to sort each other's problems out! They really do have a good relationship together, and seemed like really good friends.

The storyline was great and I was hooked from the very beginning! I knew what was going to happen following Nancy's run in at the coffee shop, and I loved where the storyline went after that. Freddy Astley-Davenport is just absolute class, and I already have a picture in my mind of what he looks like (I can see him in Made in Chelsea!!) The book's location begins in London so I'm definitely curious as to where the Seashell Bay reference comes in! Whilst I said I can be patient for the next instalment, after reading this part I am a little eager to get going with the rest of the story! Full of fun and laughs, this book is everything I would expect from this author!! Fab! Would definitely recommend! Roll on Part 2!!

I really do not want to spoil anything in this beginning few chapters of this book. So I am not going to say anything about what happens. I am however going to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the rest.

This book was an absolute joy to read, a hug in a book laced with humour.

Nancy and Alice house share. Nancy runs her own business which is struggling and is desperately seeking financial backing to prevent her business going under. A bad start to her selling pitch, accompanied by a misunderstood telephone conversation has landed Nancy with Freddie, an aristocratic young man, seeking a job but without the commitment.

Alice, a teaching assistant, loves the life in London, very different from where she grew up. She is keenly on the look out for a boyfriend and thinks she has met the man of her dreams in a nightclub....until he turns up at school to collect his daughter....

An absolute joy of a read, desperate to see how the story progresses.

An invitation to seashell bay part 1 drew me in from the start, I raced through the book eager to find out what was happening next!
Great characters in Nancy, long suffering business owner and the aristocratic troublesome Freddy! Can’t wait to see how their relationship plays out as the book progresses!
Lovely Alice house sharer and friend of Nancy I’m sure has lots more interest to add as the book progresses!
Excited with anticipation to read subsequent parts!

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books for my gifted ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is written in 4 parts. I thoroughly enjoyed Part 1 where we meet Nancy and Alice who are housemates and friends. The chapters are such that they are split into what is happening in each of their lives. Nancy runs her own craft business and Alice is a Teaching Assistant.

When Freddy enters the scene, he certainly brightens it up and had me laughing and rolling my eyes. I am curious to see where this book goes and look forward to the next installment.

Nancy is very unfortunate to have to cope with Freddy. I am quite interested to see how he will turn things around because I am aware that we have not seen the last of him. And maybe Alice will realise that not everything is as it seems and that the school where she works doesn't seem to have many reliable and caring people.

A quick read, as it is only part 1 of a 4 part series - looking forward to reading the rest of the book!

This novella-sized book is the first of four. Nancy must hire wealthy slacker Freddie in order to secure a deal with his uncle's business. Although employment plays no significant role in Freddie's fascinating life, he still needs to convince his parents that he is capable of working.
I advise you to hold off till book 4, which, ideally, will be published as one book.

My first Bella Osborne book and i wasn't disappointed!
What a cute and funny read! I thoroughly enjoyed this! I finished it in one day. It was so good! I really love a book that has lots of exciting twists and turns to keep you turning the pages!
Nancy and Freddy were fun in getting to know.
I loved how the author describes the scenes so that I feel like I'm there with the characters.
The cover of this book is quite cute, too. It was very inviting and I'm sure that it will be to others too
Very well written! 5 stars for keeping me entertained. I didn't want it to end!

Slow to start with.

I didn't think I was going to like this story at first as it just seemed to be a bit of a dull premise. I persevered and when it became about Alice's story it peaked my interest. Looking forward to reading the next instalment now.

My Opinion

Bella Osborne is once again publishing a book in four parts - this is the first part and is a great introduction. Nancy is trying to secure the help that she will need to secure the future of her online craft store. Whilst this is a quick read there is a lot of information to take in and it will leave you waiting for the next part to be released. The storyline drew me in from the beginning and will appeal to craft lovers and fans of Bella Osborne.

After five years in various office jobs, Nancy Barraclough starts selling crafting goods online. Her company, Having A Ball is an online yarn and wool shop that specializes in ethically sourced products. Her company had blossomed enough for her to quit her office job and run her own business full-time.

Now she’s on her way to All Things Crafty in Paddington, London where she hopes to land a contract and secure her job’s future.

But while waiting for her meeting at a cafe, her laptop bag as well as her laptop get stolen, along with her presentation. Somehow she manages to salvage some notes she had with her and heads to the office for her meeting.

While making her presentation, a man she met earlier at the cafe walks in. They had an altercation over their coffee order whereupon the man stormed off without his coffee.

Turns out the man in question is Lord Richard, whom she’s supposed to pitch her ideas to. Long story short her pitch didn’t go as planned.

Soon after, when Sir Richard recommends an assistant, Nancy jumps at the chance to hire them – hoping it will help her land a deal with his company.

So Sir Richard suggests a young man named Freddy Astley-Davenport, a notorious socialite with zero work experience. He’s set to inherit his family’s estate in Seashell Bay, but only if he can hold down a job for six months first.

Nancy is not impressed. Freddy’a rude, totally incompetent, and not to mention his tardiness.
Worst of all, Freddy has no plans to work instead choosing to skip work and asks Nancy to lie to his parents on his behalf.

This is part one of the Seashell Bay series. Would recommend this fun read.

Thank you to Bella Osborne, NetGalley and Avon for the arc of this book.

Wow, Bella Osborne has done it again! She has drawn me into the lives of two friends that are definitely going through some rough times. Nancy is trying to expand and save her business and somehow has gotten herself into a deal that she is not sure what it really is (blame that on bad phone connections). Alice is trying to make her way in a big city, working as a teacher’s assistant, after growing up in a small village and is not having the easiest time of navigating the path.

Part one is filled with laughter, cringe worthy scenes, some frustration and a wonderful bunch of unique characters (most of them very likeable). I cannot wait to read part two and find out more about their lives! This is part one of a four-part book. Usually, the entire book is published some time after all four parts, but I like to read in the four parts. It forces me to stop and think about what happened instead of rushing through a book to reach the conclusion.

Thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for allowing me to read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

This is my first serial novel so I was excited to see how it worked with the ending; whether it was like 4 short novellas or whether each serial ended seemingly randomly in the middle of a book.
Firstly though I want to talk about the actual book before the format. I'm absolutely loving the story so far! Nancy and Alice are great characters and I love we fact it seems like we'll be getting both of their stories throughout the book. Two stories for the price of one! So far they don't hugely link, they're just friends with two separate stories happening to them, so I'm not sure whether something will join them later on or if we really are just getting both friends' stories, but I love it either way!
I'm also really liking Bella's writing style. It's my first of her books and going into it I was worried because the romance read I paused to read this quickly I was struggling with a bit. I thought I'd just read too many romances recently and over-romanced myself so was worried I'd struggle with this one too. But I've been absolutely loving it so I definitely think I just wasn't getting on with the writing of the other one and really got into this one.
So serialisations... As I said I was worried it would be weird just reading a quarter of a book and then stopping and reading other books before reading another chunk of this one. I like the idea of breaking them up in principle, for those that don't have a lot of time. If a quarter comes out every couple of weeks it would give people that don't read often time to read each bit as it comes out. It didn't seem to end too badly at a cut-off, although it definitely wasn't a whole rounded novella and I'm fairly certain will pick up exactly where it left off. But it did seem more like a TV show, as in each episode is not too bad on its own before you then watch the next one. I'll give a better judgement on that when I read the next installment but so far it's not bad! And I'm loving the story and really looking forward to the rest!

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books and the author for an ARC copy of the book so I could write this honest review.

I loved the start of this new series from Bella Osborne. We meet main character Nancy when she is having a disaster of a day. We know that she is off to a very big pitch, something that could be life-changing for her and then everything starts to go wrong. I love her attitude to everything that days throws at her and her determination to carry on and do her best regardless and that’s when I clicked with Nancy and I knew we were going to have a good time this series.

Nancy has her own business and this brings with it some other characters we will be introduced to this series. Love that Nancy has such a diverse workforce but they all obviously love her as a boss because they all support her and will go the extra mile to make things happen at All Things Crafty. Then along comes Freddy. I feel like we only scratch the surface of Freddy in this episode but there will be plenty of comedy moments and some difficult times ahead for Nancy with Freddy on board!

We also get to know Nancy’s flatmate, who is a teaching assistant, over the course of this instalment of the series. I like that it says in the acknowledgements of the book that this author called on a teaching assistant friend and did her research before writing this book but that friend must work in a very toxic school because poor Alice has a very bad run of things. There are definitely some questions I would ask about her school in regards to safeguarding but on the whole I loved the snapshot we got into her work and personal life and I can’t wait to read more from her.

This was a great start to the series and I will definitely be pre-ordering the rest of the books so I can read more about Alice, Freddy and Nancy’s adventures!

I really enjoyed this story, and can't wait to read the sequels. I found it hard to put down as I wanted to find out what happened to both Nancy and Alice. I thought the first one ended well - tying up the loose ends between Nancy and Freddie, and Alice and Dom, whilst still leaving you wanting more.

The story is told with two narrators who are flatmates. Nancy owns the flat and is the owner of All things Crafty, a struggling new business which Nancy is trying to build. When Nancy mishears a telephone conversation on the way home from a pitch which doesn't go well, she thinks she has the answer to both her problems sorted - a new PA to help out, and a lucrative deal which will solve her financial problems. Instead she meets Freddie who comes from an extremely wealthy background and thinks that he can pretend to his parents that he is employed for 6 months so he can gain his inheritance, without actually doing any real work. This is a rock meeting a hard place and sparks fly.

Alice is Nancy's flatmate, and a TA in a local school working with a very difficult teacher. She loves living in London, and loves her job - especially the children. When she goes out to a club and kisses a man, there is a connection, but Alice thinks she will never see him again. Then she meets him in an unexpected place and sparks fly. However the course of true love never runs smooth, as Alice has a secret, which means their spark cannot be ignited.

A well written book, by an excellent author, and I am sure it's going to be very popular.

I absolutely loved this book and can not wait for the next instalment
Nancy has her own craft business which is doing well but, like all fledgling businesses could do with a cash injection. When she is asked to attend a meeting to show off her products and ideas she is so excited and believes this could be the solution to all her problems. However, after her laptop is stolen and she is covered in coffee the meeting does not go according to plan.
Feeling disheartened and worried about the future for both her and her employees she accepts the offer of an assistant from the investor in return for some interest in her business. The only problem is the assistant is Freddy. Freddy is quite a handful and far more interested in having a fun time with his posh friends than actually doing any work. But, he needs to prove to his parents that he can hold down a job and Nancy needs the business leads/contacts from the investor. So let battle commence- will Freddy just do his own thing or will Nancy show him the joy of a job well done.

I did enjoy reading this sweet, romance story, it had everything you would expect and want this kind of read. I loved the dual story of Nancy and Alice, it was good having the two stories running together. This story has a little bit of everything to keep your attention, a new business, an entitled, handsome male lead, friendships, humour, drama and romance. This is a very easy and enjoyable read.

The characters were great. I loved Nancy and her ethical stands with her business and employees, I really liked her. Freddy is funny, likeable if a little spoilt. Then there is Alice, the teaching assistant who is Nancy's housemate. She is so sweet, unsure of herself but determined to have her own life. Add in Nancy's cat Carrie, their parents and some baddies, there is a great mix in this book.

This is a very readable book. Apart from some toilet references which I felt were really unnecessary and a school where teachers feel superior to TAs (I thought that was really a thing of the past) I can recommend this book and will definitely be reading the next one in the series.

An Invitation to Seashell Bay: Part 1: All Things Crafty

This short little book by Bella Osborne is the first of four parts, sort of like reading a book in four parts? Or a series of four novellas to complete a story maybe! Either way, I think I quite like it - it's certainly made me want to read part 2!

Part one has basically just set the scene for what's to come. We meet Nancy who owns her own business, All Things Crafty. However, in order to secure a contract to keep her business going, she is forced to hire Freddy, a rich socialite who doesn't need the money and who doesn't appear to be taking the job at all seriously. We're also introduced to Nancy's housemate, Alice, though we don't know too much about her yet.

This was an interesting beginning and I'm very intrigued to see where the story goes in the next three parts!

Thank you so much to Bella Osborne, Avon UK and Netgalley for the ARC of part one.

Remind yourselves of those long hazy, heat-driven days of summer full of hope and possibility for world out doors as you cosy into the feel-good rom-com.

Perfect for shutting out the cold, dank, dark days of winter and transporting yourself back into summer, it's well worth taking up your Invitation To Seashell Bay.

Freddy Astley-Davenport comes across as that self-righteous, privileged heir. He's actually an interesting character to explore. There are plenty of people around who think they know it all without having the experience, so this makes him relatable too, in a way.  He may well frustrate, with the type of personality he has, but I feel this truly works, to the extent you want to know his outcome.

Nancy's business is struggling, which then brings in Freddy.
Arguments ensue and take readers on a bit of a rollercoaster of a read to see what's going to come next in their lives. There's quite a bit of humour to be had too, which lightens things up a bit.

I always look forward to a new series from this Bella and I wasn't disappointed. The main characters are Nancy, the owner of a small business, her housemate Alice, a teaching assistant, and Freddy, an aristocratic young man under strict instructions to prove that he can hold down a job before he can inherit running the family estate.
There is a mix of humour, potential romances and the harsh reality of trying to run a small business. I really felt for both Nancy and Alice, maybe not so much for Freddy who does come across as a bit of a cliche, but overall I am really enjoying the story so far and can't wait for the next in the series. That is always the downfall of reading a four part series though.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influenced my review of the book

A quick read, as it is only part 1 of a 4 part series - looking forward to reading the rest of the book!

Nancy is a desperate woman. She has a small business, employees who are relying on her and a lack of funds to grow her business. Enter Freddy, a charming, useless fellow who is supposed to help her out in exchange for a deal with his uncle. What could possibly go wrong???

Then there is Alice, Nancy's housemate who is a teaching assistant and a real sweetie. She shares an unexpected kiss with a man at a nightclub and doesn't see him again - until suddenly she does, and all she can do is think, and wonder....

I really like these two main characters, and Freddy too (even though he would drive me bonkers, as he does Nancy and her staff). This was an easy read but has some substance to it :)

Enjoyed very much.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
Bella's female fiction is always light and lots of fun, and this book is no exception. Nancy is straightforward with her eyes set on the future of her unique business, and her lodger, Alice, brings credible tales of the children in her care that made me smile. They make an interesting pair as they are so different, and this sets the scene for more hilarity in their lovelives. Bring in lazy toff Freddy and Nancy's life is upended!
Part 1 was a great introduction to their story and all 4 parts have now been combined into a beach-sized read.

I love a Bella Osborne novel. You know you’re guaranteed a great plot and wonderful likeable characters and An Invitation to Seashell Bay: Part 1 All Things Crafty is no exception. From the first chapter I fell in love with Nancy’s character. She’s warm and loveable and seems to be the unluckiest person - if it can go wrong for her it will. Part 1 sees Nancy, an ambitious businesswoman and Freddy, an irresponsible heir join forces with a deal that will turn both their lives upside down. I was immediately invested in this novel and the first ten chapters passed quickly, I can’t wait for part 2. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author for the chance to review.

I read this funny and uplifting book in an afternoon. Nancy runs All Things Crafty and Alice, who rents a room from her, is a Teaching Assistant. Nancy is trying hard to expand her company and ends up making a ‘deal’ that results in aristocratic Freddy working for her. Although Alice enjoys her job she finds she is somewhat the teacher’s dogsbody. Add to that concerns over one of the students whose Dad she is attracted to. There were parts of this that made me laugh out loud, mainly to do with character Freddy. I can’t wait for the next part and to find out what happens next! Thank you to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first Bella Osborne book I have read. This is the first part of a 4 part book. It is very short and easy to read. It is classed as a romcom, but in this first part, there isn’t much romance. However, there is plenty of scope for that in the next episode. Nancy and Alice share a house and this first part introduces the characters and details their jobs. The book ends suddenly, so I will be eager to read the next 3 parts. I would like to thank NetGalley, Bella Osborne and Avon books for an arc of this book. If they hadn’t given me the opportunity of reading it, I might never have discover another good author.

The introduction was everything. The description, incidents and encounters will spike your interest in the book. It was funny but I also felt sorry for Nancy.

I enjoyed reading all about Freddy’s shenanigans and his ‘escapades’ in and outside the office.

I love the introduction of Alice and how she has a part in the story. Her experience highlights the plights of TAs and others who find themselves In assistant roles.

I love the ‘extra’ story-the antics and the love story of Year 1 pupils.

I’m looking forward to reading the other parts of the story.

I received an advanced copy from the publisher via Netgalley. The review is entirely mine
