Susan A Regarding the .03 set in space for next round

I'm finding a lot of books with descriptions like this book

Vadir

Human and alien MC, so clearly at some point someone space traveled, but I don't know how I would know for sure until I actually read the book. Based on your answer in the other QA thread, I think I have to pass on this type of book if I want to guarantee it works for .03 space task. Does this sound like I'm interpreting your answer correctly?

I followed this book over to amazon and did a search in the look inside feature for travel, spacecraft, spaceship. When I searched spaceship, I get this quote at page 72

"You're joking. Please tell me you're kidding. I'm coping with the fact that you're an alien and we are on a spaceship."

Says space travel to me. Good to go.

Good idea. I forgot about that.

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh

message 67: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
yes

message 68: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 For round three - when you say in space does it have to be in a space ship travelling through space or can it be on another planet located out in space somewhere?

Nullarbor
.03 multiplier: A book set in space

I am planning on reading - both set in space on other planets:
Alien Mate by Cara Bristol (starts off on a spaceship)
Barbarian Mine by Ruby Dixon (she starts off living in a crashed spaceship)

Will they work?

message 69: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Okay, to make this easier on all involved, I'm going to amend the following task:

🚩 Nullarbor
.03 multiplier: A book set in space

to

.03 multiplier: A book set in space or on a planet other than Earth

Yaaaay - you’re the greatest!

message 71: by Maria Jo (new)

Maria Jo Sandi, this is the second round in a row we have not heard from Chafic. I messaged him on the last day of the previous round, and have heard nothing since.

message 72: by Maria Jo (new)

Maria Jo Sandi, we don't have any letters in our spell-out tab for Battle 3 yet. I can't remember if you put those in right before the battle starts, or if they should be there now.

message 73: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
I put them there for the first two. I actually didn't want to load them in this time as I wasn't sure how many people actually look at the list document and I wanted teams to be aware of it this time around.

What is the list document?

message 75: by Emily (last edited Sep 16, 2019 05:54AM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) I think she is talking about this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z...

It has an explanation of what words she's picked for each spell-out. She linked it in the original task posting.

message 76: by Suzy (new)

Suzy Kennedy Question for set in space or on another planet.

I'd like to do Mars Rising (Saving Mars #6) by Cidney Swanson , The MC is on earth trying to save the mars colony and waiting to be able to get back to mars. but about a third of the book is from the POV of people on mars as they try to find a way to stop missiles sent from Earth to destroy mars, and at the begining of the book the MCs are on the moon and have to use a shuttle to get back on Earth.

Would that count? Or too much time spent on Earth?

message 77: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) This is not really a question, but just letting you know that I don't think Chafic has participated in either of the rounds. There could be other players I didn't check, I just knew he had dropped out of other challenges.

message 78: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Suzy, should be okay as long as some of the storyline revolves around the residents of Mars or space travel

Sorry guys. . . . with your reading power vs the other teams, not going to worry about Chafic dropping from the team ;-)

message 79: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) Where are we supposed to enter the book for the bonus?

message 80: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
As this bonus doesn't affect the game itself, I'm not going to worry about tracking for it (or any others that might be offered). Use the book for one of the tasks and collect your bonus card(s) at the end of the game

message 81: by Emily (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) Hey Sandi, I noticed a problem with the formulas on the B3 tab. When Danielle put in her completion date, it didn't pick up the number. It looks like the formula is reading the wrong boxes (G45 saying Uluru instead of E45)... not sure if that's all over the spreadsheet, but I just wanted to point that out.

message 82: by Critterbee❇ (last edited Sep 17, 2019 06:42AM) (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) I think the multiplier in that box should be H45, but Uluru looks to have the multiplier as I45. The I column looks like a line, no data, so has nothing to multiply.

The Port Lincoln column looks like it is also missing the H column multiplier.

message 83: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Sorry . . . I think I have it all corrected.

message 84: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) Thanks, Sandi!

message 85: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) For a book set in space or on another planet, would something set on the moon work? Specifically Fairest by Marissa Meyer? It is tagged space 70 times on the first page, but I honestly don't think the moon is really a planet.

Also with Supernova Era by Liu Cixin, there is limited space travel at the beginning (people in a space station orbiting Earth) and later in a VR simulation, the characters are in space for a short time looking at Earth. Do you think either of these would count as space travel?

message 86: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann I am reading Artificial Condition. It doesn't mention a planet but there are shuttle craft and transport ships. Would this be considered traveling in space?

message 87: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) Leslie, there is def space travel in that book (view spoiler)
:D

message 88: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
all of those would work.

message 89: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) Can this one work for mountain on the cover? It looks like little mountains in the background to me.
Chosen at Nightfall (Shadow Falls, #5) by C.C. Hunter

message 90: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Iffy about that, could just be a bunch of trees, but I'll approve it.

message 91: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) Thank you. :)

message 92: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Do you think there are mountains in the background on this one?

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

message 93: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
difficult to find, but I see it. yes, approved.

message 94: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Thanks!

message 95: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) Would this be acceptable for mountains? Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber

message 96: by Susan A (new)

Susan A Tri-Tip by Vanessa Vale - for mountain

The default edition has no page count. The first edition with a page count is not English. Do I keep moving down to the English edition - -the 188 page one?

message 97: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Sorry, Vicki, I'm gonna say no to that one. Susan, yes, approved.

message 98: by Emily (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) I'm reading Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet right now, and it is an anthology of short stories written by many different YA novelists. How would I handle that for the spell-out?

I know for books with multiple authors, we usually are able to count the initials for either name, but I want to make sure it applies in this case.

For reference, the listed authors on the GR homepage are: Jennifer L. Armentrout, Dhonielle Clayton, Katie Cotugno, Jocelyn Davies, Nina LaCour, Emery Lord, Katharine McGee, Kass Morgan, Meredith Russo, Sara Shepard, Nicola Yoon, Ibi Zoboi, and Julie Murphy

message 99: by Emily (last edited Sep 23, 2019 06:37PM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) I ended up putting it on the spell-out under A... the first author listed on the GR page for the book is Jennifer Armentrout. Please let me know if this is ok!

message 100: by Sandi (new)

Sandi Barnes | 300 comments Mod
Sorry, Emily. I saw this I think sometime in between my sleeping so didn't respond and then completely slipped my mind.

Any author who is linked in the author field which seems to be all that you mentioned.
