Once I started reading this book I was completely captivated from beginning to end and I didn't want to put it down until I finished it.
Fascinating, clever and chilling.
First, I loved that the setting takes place in Ruidoso, New Mexico with such vast, beautiful landscape. Let me preface this review by saying, this novel maybe hard to read in some parts, but it doesn't make it any less brilliant. Filled with heartfelt moments, the first section is devastating as you the reader witness that the lives of these children are brutally cut short. It is amazing how Parham is able to create such intense suspense despite the reader being fully aware of what is going to happen and who the killer is. The story is a disturbing and insightful look into the nature and fragility of the human mind and the compulsion to be violent. The quick, cliffhanger chapters kept my heart racing from beginning to end.

It combines archaeology, mythology, and an apo..."
Wow, that one is going on my to-read list.

I will say that it is a mystery, but I must not elaborate further, so that I won't spoil it for those who have not read it yet.
I'm a voracious reader, so when I say this book was shocking, and satisfying, I mean it! I can usually guess ending, but not this time. I wasn't even close to figuring it out, and I'm very glad of it! I hate books that I can figure out, before they end.
I highly recommend this book!

I enjoyed Ms. Barnes book so much, I am now reading her book, A Country Called Home. If this one is anywhere near as good as the above novel, she will become my 'other' favorite author, next to Carson McCullers.

I'm currently reading Divergentby Veronica Roth.

Up next I will be reading

Valerie how did you like First Frost I have been wanting to read it. I hear its good. I reserved the first book at the library and should be at the library Wed.

I love David Baldacci, and will probably start this series also. I am now reading King and Maxwell, its the last book in the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell Series, I am almost finished with this series and the series is awesome!
