⚣Michaelle⚣ (michaelle) | 1187 comments The instructions say an author from Australasia, or a book set there...and the Archibald Prize description says "resident." Can I get a ruling on whether L.J. Hayward counts? It says she lives "on the Gold Coast in Queensland" on her bio page but not whether she is from there.

Thank you!

I would think that you are good - 'from' to me means both where you were born/grew up as well as well as where you currently reside. At least I think that is a valid argument and that is the only location info on the GR author page. Jane would have the final word though, I expect she will be around before too long.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'm sorry - I didn't get these notifications!! No idea why!

LJ Hayward is fine though. She's currently from the Goldie, so she is currently 'from' there.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hi everyone - its taken time but I have finally made my way through all the team threads. I just want to reiterate a couple of points (for which no-one was penalised but I will start enforcing now that I am home and on top of things).

Please make a SELECTION post if you use the PASS option.

For option 2, you must be reading a book that was read by your teamie WITHIN the last 6 months, using the date I provide each week. That is, the book you select must have been read on our AFTER that date. Not before. If this occurs from now on, and it is not picked up in the theme week (and changed) the book will be recorded on my list as permanently outstanding and the team will not be able to win. So everyone please double-check your dates and your teamies dates.

THis is a general reiteration - you cannot use a book for this challenge if you have already started reading it - UNLESS you start from the beginning again. This is the case for every challenge in this group.

I made a selection. Then i used the free pass option for the first time. Do I still read the selection or am I good?

message 63: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments We had a big electric storm here last night - and now no electricity at the moment. The strike was somewhere nearby on our property. Working off batteries.

I'll try to check for comments, but we hadn't recharged our phones prior to getting the storm! But I'll be in civilisation later today so will be back to normal then.

If you have Calibre you can use that to calculate a page count that can be used on GR.

Hi Diane - these are the only two rules on page count:

Q: My book doesn't have a page count on Goodreads but I have the word count. Can I use the word count and what is the minimum acceptable?
A: Yes - a 35,000 minimum word count will be accepted as a substitute for the 100 page minimum. Because the word count to page conversion varies greatly, I have gone at the high end for this conversion.

Q: My book doesn't have a page count on Goodreads but Amazon does have a page count. Can I use Amazon's page count?
A: Yes. Please provide a link to the Amazon book page.

If it can't fit into these two rules and you can't get a GR librarian to upload a word/page count, then you won't be able to use the book :(

Sorry.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments Jane, if you read from one of the lists, the MC still has to be a musician right? Because some of the books on the lists don't have a MC who is a musician.

I just want to make sure.

message 80: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

It needs to be in the blurb as it appears on GR's main page. If that is repeated on GR's main page for that book, then it will work :)
