I used to enjoy watching Law&Order SUV but they stopped broadcasting it here. Even then they seemed to show the same episodes over and over again.

I did watch Gilligan's Island when I was a kid. But no to Dallas and Dynasty, or soap operas. Although, Downton Abbey is pretty much a soap opera.

message 303: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I watched Laverne & Shirley, Love Boat, The Incredible Hulk, Fantasy Island, Charlie's Angels, and yes, Dynasty and Dallas!

I watched LA Law too. And Ally McBeal.

I watched yours too! I was a big television watcher (in the evenings) as a kid. I agree that the quality of shows is not as universal as it used to be. As they become more sophisticated they lose some of their appeal for me.

message 305: by [deleted user] (new)

Friends was the big show when I was growing up, & Seinfeld of course. Still watch them every night on TBS & they're still funny.

Hello, everyone! I was away for the weekend and just got home. How are you all doing? Had a fun weekend, I hope?

message 308: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My youngest child got her driver's license yesterday. She got 100% on the test and although I am incredibly proud of her and happy I don't have to get up at 5:45 for school anymore I am also a little sad at the thought of my last chick flying off on her own. :*(

message 309: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments That does sound tough. My oldest is only 12, but we are already counting the years with dread and excitement for when he'll start to drive!

Wow Kandice, that's is pretty darn awesome, I am very happy for you and your daughter!

Now you just have to wait for grandkids and all will be well ;)

At this very moment...maybe. In 35 minutes? Not so much!

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Going to sleep now.

I played 3 hours badminton yesterday, and 2 hours today, and I am so kaput...

message 317: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Oh, and I forgot the part where I was running all Sunday afternoon in the park for a game.

I haven't done that much sports in ages and am so not used to it anymore :-s

message 318: by Kandice (new)

Kandice That's a LOT of badminton!

message 319: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I love badminton, but usually, I would only play once a week. Except that since my brother came back home, he started pushing everyone to play more. I can't believe I also promised to join on Wednesday -_-'

And that I also registered for a 10K race... I might love badminton, but I hate running. What wouldn't you do for friends...

message 320: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Me too! I would drop dead about 2 k into that race. I played soccer until I was about 35, but since then I've become fairly sedentary.

message 321: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I hate running. I usually do drop dead after 2km. But this time, I consider it as a challenge to face.

Exercise, huh?
I think I have heard of that...

message 323: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I like hiking with my children, or riding bike, swimming, etc. but absolutely cannot make myself do the whole "gym" thing. To me, that's exercise. The other stuff is just living.

Three cheers for a girl after my own heart!

lmao Leigh xD
I honestly think if I had company I would at least go for walks because I have already done that. I'd go with another girl for an hour long walk almost everyday. But on my own.. Just no motivation.

message 326: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Why walk when there is coffee in the kitchen? ;)

message 327: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My best friend and I had our children in kind of tandem (about 2 months apart for all 3 we each had) and walked every weekday morning, pushing our strollers, for 4 - 6 miles. We lost all our baby weight, never felt we were exercising and were the closest we've ever been in those 4 years.

Now I wonder how we ever carved out the time, but I wish we could do it again.

I actually don't have coffee in the house, always go out for it ehhe. I have to admit I miss being outdoors but just the thought of going out on my own turns me off big time...

When the weather gets better I will try to at least go to the park with my Kindle Paperwhite :)

And watch people exercising :P

That sounds lovely, Kandice. Relaxing, even. Which is totally the opposite of the notion I have of exercise. Very hard work.

message 330: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I absolutely agree with you!!!!

message 331: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Exercisers watching, kind of like bird watching?

I'm just joking about never walking. I actually do this when I need to go somewhere close by. That's why I love Europe. I also do some yoga once a week, but that's more stretching and breathing so I consider it brain and body therapy more than exercise.

message 332: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Hey Aaron!

message 333: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments @Aaron, Pretty good!

@Kandice, it's funny, but when kids are little your life revolves around them and you live at their pace. We lived in Hawaii for a year when my son was a toddler and I used to go to Mom's Club stuff all the time. I couldn't now!

message 334: by Melaslithos (last edited Feb 11, 2015 09:25AM) (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Well, I don't consider badminton as exercising, but as playing. Unfortunately, it's much more fun at high level, and I play with very good players, so I have to stay fit to keep up (I'm already the worst in the group). I'm the only one finishing the games all tired, hurting everywhere, breathing hardly, etc. when others don't even break a sweat -_-"

As I've read somewhere "you don't play sports to stay fit, you stay fit to play a sport". So I try to push myself to go to the gym, to stay in shape. But I have to admit that it doesn't really work (going to the gym is so boring - although I do take podcasts, or sometime audiobooks with me to pass the time. That's the only motivation I found that works).

I also love hiking and mountains. Basically, the only times I have been going seriously to the gym was when I was preparing long treks or climbing high peaks (I don't consider that as exercising either, but as traveling).

I'm finally getting into snowshoeing (practically need them to get to my car these days) which is also super fun, but pretty challenging. Exercise is such a drag if it isn't fun though. Gotta be fun.

Aaron - you don't keep your beard for winter? :)

message 336: by [deleted user] (new)

Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "I just got my beard thinned a little, JH. I still have a beard only it's not as thick."

:) My husband keeps his pretty thick cause without it he says his face gets cold. Sometimes, I wish I had a beard...

message 337: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha! I don't think my husband would approve ;) Although I could join the circus!

message 338: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Sometimes, I'd love to grow a beard too. And be all hairy. All covered in my own fur. Just to keep warm in winter. Although my winters are clearly far from being as cold as yours.

message 339: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
For a few years my hair was so long I could actually sit on it. During winter, I would wrap it up around my neck and it would make a lovely scarf ^_^

message 340: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I had hair down to my butt until I was 12, but it's been about shoulder length since. It's been decades and I still miss it.

message 341: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
I miss it too but it sure is high maintenance.

message 342: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I am so jealous, I would love to be able to grow my hair super long....sigh...it is too fine and dry, though.

message 343: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't had long hair in years. Trying to grow it out again before my hair gets too gray. I'd like to do a hair flip. :)

message 344: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I know shoulder length doesn't really qualify as long, but anything too short to go in a ponytail or bun when I have no time is just too much maintenance for me!

message 345: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Hah. I wear my hair in a ponytail 95% I am out of the house. When inside, usually a bun. So practical!

message 346: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Well, not necessarily, you could always grow out your hair :P

message 347: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I used to have my hair to my waist until last month. Now, it's reaching my collarbone.

I'm actually glad I cut them. They are still long, but not as long. They used to be far too heavy and giving me headaches by the end of the day. Now, they are lighter, have more volume, and look healthier more globally.

But I do think that short hair is much more high maintenance than long hair. Long hair will always look good. It would usually just settle itself with it's weight. You don't really get "bad hair days". In the morning, I just comb them and attach them/make a bun, or even leave them be. It's very quick.

Short hair, you have to go to the hairdresser, take time to put it in place everymorning or it looks like nothing, etc. So much more high maintenance. Unless you have it very short, military style, and there is nothing to do.

And yes, guys can grow their hair too! My brother has it shoulder length. When I decided to cut my hair, he said "please, not shorter than me!"

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Well, for Valentine's Day, I'm going to see Cabaret with my husband at the theater...should be good! And it's Carnival in town on Sunday, so we will probably dress up in costumes and take the kids to the parade.
