Derek This was the first group I joined, and is still my favorite.

I'm glad to be a part of Book Lair!

Eheh thanks :D
I am on-ish, at work!
It's rainy, cold and windy here today, not a nice combination :(
How are you doing today?

message 258: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Good morning everyone!

message 259: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Good night everyone! For once, I'll try to have an early night (well, by early, I mean midnight).

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Oh my, an early night for me is 20h30 ahah. I love sleeping. And waking up early.

Hey guys, I just came across the book The Fire Sermon by accident and am wondering if anyone has read it or heard about it? The ratings seem more or else average, but the premise seems pretty interesting?

message 262: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Not if no one else is interested, I don't plan on buying any books in the near future!

message 263: by [deleted user] (new)

Anybody in the middle of a storm, too? I don't know what this one's called, but it's -1, 30 mph gusts, and up to 8 inches today!

message 264: by [deleted user] (new)

No kidding! I'm so glad I work at home.

message 265: by [deleted user] (new)

What do you do, if you don't mind me asking?

message 266: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
No storm here but nasty weather nonetheless, can't wait to get home and snuggle in bed with my book!

message 267: by [deleted user] (new)

My situation was much the same - writing, too, in a place with no jobs. I was miserable at the old job and there was talk of getting rid of me. I quit and my boss fired me the next day. Didn't know you could do that...

That's the only thing that suits a crummy day. :)

That smarts! I'm so sorry!

The synagogue where I work started their new infant program today. I have two offices. One in the front of the building when I am "assisting" the rabbi, and one in the back for when I am working on school administration. I'm the school office today and there is one baby who has not stopped wailing for two hours. Poor thing, but I have a splitting headache. They called his mom and she said that's his MO.

O_o

I didn't know it was possible either! :) Oh well, I'm better off now. No good being miserable - as you clearly have learned, too. I'm actually getting back int volunteer work myself. Orientation at an animal shelter tomorrow.

Yes, Kandice, it did smart. But now the guy who fired me was pushed out, too. Karma! OMG I love little babies, but their cries are enough to make you go bonkers!

message 271: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have come to realize that I adored MY babies, but babies in general are not all that appealing. I suspect I will also adore my grandchildren (please!), but don't feel the general tug of babies that most people seem to.

You're absolutely right about being better off if you were miserable, and the fact that your former boss is gone now too says a lot about where you worked.

Let's just say I wouldn't wish the place on my worst enemy. Well, maybe my worst ;)

I like babies alright but I don't like them when they get older and start being bossy! :) I have a 3-yo nephew and he rules the roost. But I don't feel any pull towards kids either. Babies are just fascinating to watch, especially as they become aware of the world.

message 273: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, something definitely happens to them. I'm just an aunt, and I love being able to hand over the baby and leave the room when they poop, drool, barf, cry, what have you. I'll take my peace. :)

message 274: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I looooove holding babies and then giving them to their parents as soon as there is something unpleasant going on!

message 275: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I have done my time and then some! It just feels so good when someone else has to clean up the mess. :)

It's also fun to give a kid a gross gift (like the fart bubble machine I just got my nephew) and kind of get in trouble for it. That's kind of mean, but still - I like it :) (He ran around the house saying "making farts!" Hehe)

message 277: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh yeah - it had 3-yo boy written all over it.

message 278: by [deleted user] (new)

My sister-in-law was super mad at me though. Said she's going to get her revenge.

message 279: by [deleted user] (new)

I was like, good luck! I don't have kids!

message 280: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have four brothers and a sister in law and we have always rejoiced in buying each other's children obnoxious and or loud toys. The louder the better, usually!

message 281: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad I'm not the only who enjoys that!!

message 282: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I don't know if anyone else here is a Joss Whedon fan, but my children and I have been working our way through his shows again. We got to season five of Angel tonight and I had forgotten how much I love Spike!

Hello there! How is everyone doing today?

message 289: by [deleted user] (new)

More snow in my neck of the woods! Woke grateful that I didn't have nightmares - I watched the first episode of Walking Dead before I went to bed... Fell asleep fearing zombies would haunt my dreams!

message 290: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I saw the trailer to Walking Dead and that was enough to know it wasn't for me!

message 291: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Eheh I could never get into that show. These days I sometimes watch Criminal Minds, Resurrection, Arrow, Forever and Person of Interest. But mostly I read! And I have had pretty freaky dreams due to the books I read eheh.

message 292: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I had to 'break' into our chalet once because the door was iced over. I hate to think what the neighbors thought of me......

message 293: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Ouch, sounds nasty... We still don't have snow here, just freezing cold.

message 294: by [deleted user] (new)

I wasn't sure I'd like the zombies. They're pretty nasty, I must admit. But the characters, at least so far, have blown me away!

Little frost here - it's a heat wave. 33 for a high!

Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "Criminal Minds is my favorite, too, Ana. I love how the profilers do their jobs. For the most part I don't watch t.v. Blue Bloods is good. Mostly I read and watch movies."

It's been ages since I've seen a good movie - a new one, that is.

message 296: by [deleted user] (new)

As soon as I said it, I thought of a few - 12 Years A Slave was one of them (btw, Solomon Northrup lived for a time in Essex County, which is very close to where I live!), Grand Budapest Hotel, Inside Llewelyn Davis....

message 297: by [deleted user] (new)

Not the actor, the actual historical figure. I got that wrong - he was BORN in Minerva, NY.

message 298: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My entire family watches The Walking Dead together. I've read the comics for years and it is one of the few times where the adaptation is almost as good. It's not really about the zombies, it's about the living. Great character development.

My husband watches Criminal Minds. I used to watch CSI (the original), but stopped when Grissom left.

message 299: by [deleted user] (new)

I turn it to SVU on USA almost all the time - if I want something on TV but don't really want to watch. It's on constantly.

I have so many series under my radar right now: GoT, Penny Dreadful, The Knick, Girls, Walking Dead now, Doctor Who, Ripper Street, Downton Abbey...

message 300: by [deleted user] (new)

I do! I love TV series. I'm not sure if it was or not - I don't think so.
