Not finding much reading time these days. Doesn't help I keep having to put down what I'm reading because of real life stuff, by the time I get back to it I've mostly lost interest. And now I'm technically into about 11 books or so. Sigh. Major read-off coming soon, I guess.

Aside from a handful of DarkFuse novellas, I haven't really finished reading anything I started recently. Nearly done with Jagannath and The Black Prism, though, looking to finish off those this week. This week there's a national holiday in Guyana, hopefully I can finish all my work and find enough time to read those out also.

I did finish Lord of Light a week or two ago. My first Zelazny. I liked it alot, I think it's aged pretty well, but it definitely wasn't what I expected. For a book so widely loved, I guess I just expected something more speculative. Anyways, I wrote a review. And after getting a taste of Cat Valente in a short story I read recently, I tried out one of her novellas, Six-Gun Snow White. Pretty entertaining. She's a bit unsubtle about her social commentary in the start, but as it progressed that petered off fast. Odd ending. Here's that review. And that's all that's going on with me at the moment, I think.

Marcus Just started reading Ender's Shadow By orson scott card.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished Mockingjay. It irritated me most of the time, but I was satisfied enough with the ending.

Now I'm reading Crossover by Joel Shepherd.

message 54: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Elric: The Sleeping Sorceress and that inevitably led to Duke Elric, which should sate me, Elric-wise, for the time being.

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

Not sure if you guys have heard, but Brandon Sanderson released his Cosmere novella, Sixth of the Dusk, singly! Good thing I never got around to buying the Writing Excuses anthology just to read it. Here's my review

I also finished Ghosts of Eden by Keith Deininger, a mindbending little fantasy that turns into a pretty strange horror story. I like how it plays with the whole kid-going-to-magic-school situation. Here's that review.

I got very tired of Katniss crying in the closet, personally. It will be interesting to see how they deal with that in the movie.

I find I like Katniss much more in the movies. I hope that won't be an issue or they fix some of the problems with the book.

Just finished Bad Wizard. I enjoyed this expansion on the Oz universe. My review here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Continuing with the second book in the Obernewtyn series now, The Farseekers.

Song of Susannah will give you plenty of sleep time. This is the weakest book of the series.

I'll count that as another vote in Salem's Lot's favor!

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

I had a free day yesterday, so I finally finished up The Black Prism! Been audiobooking it, that's the first book I listened to. Not bad. As to the book, it has a few things I just didn't like, but ultimately I had fun reading [listening?] to it, so it's all good. Here's my review

Heather (bruyere) My next Dark Tower book is Wolves of the Calla. I'm a book or two behind most of you!

I loved it .

message 70: by Dan (last edited Oct 24, 2014 10:01PM) (new)

Dan Howitt I finished The Republic of Thieves tonight. Surprisingly I really didn't like it and gave it only 2 stars. I found almost everything I'd loved from "Lies" was absent from this book. Despite the fact that I've found the second and third books less than impressive, I still plan to give the fourth a try when it comes out, although the series will be on its third strike at that point.

message 71: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 58 comments In these days I finished 'Salem's Lot and M Is for Magic. Today I started Song of Susannah, another step to the 'dark tower'.

message 72: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Duke Elric and that's probably enough Doomed Albino Prince for the time being. I started Troika by Alastair Reynolds, which should be a nice, little diversion while I figure out what's next on the agenda.

message 73: by Ian (new)

Ian Hall | 169 comments Im currently reading

Crown of Midnight
The Cycle of Arawn: The Complete Epic Fantasy Trilogy
The Eye of the World
The Ships of Merior
The Storm's Own Son: Book Two
The Magicians' Guild.

I am in a bit of a book slump I cant seem to stick to a series for longer than 1 or 2 books at the moment so I have a lot of different series going at the moment.

message 74: by Zach (new)

Zach Langley (othrelo) I have not been active here in a LONG time... I am currently reading "redwall", "the way of kings" (this will more than likely be a multi month read as I just started) and "A Wizard of Earthsea"... Sorry do not know how to link on the app!

I am biding my time and have the two books for The Nov. group read coming in so that I may join in the discussions... Looking forward to getting back in the swing of things!

Nice! Thanks for the heads up on this; I didn't realize he released this as a single. Reading now, about 30% in and liking it. Pretty I could read Sanderson's grocery list and be entertained.

This is a collection of stories of various genres. Some are interesting, some are strange or bizarre, passing from mystery to thriller, but in the whole I liked it.

Chris ( librocubicularist ) King Just finished The Elder Gods by David Eddings this morning and went straight into The Treasured One by the same, and despite all the negativity surrounding this series I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

WoR truly lives up to it. And I believe Doors of Stone is equally, if not more, hyped, which only seems to increase with the super long wait!

message 83: by Anne (new)

Anne (arisgin) Currently listening to The Shadow Rising (in the car) and Ready Player One (at the gym). Currently reading Wolfhound Century in physical book form.

Finished so far in October:

The Well of Ascension
The Wise Man's Fear
The Dragon Reborn
Redshirts (Is it just me, or was anyone else sorely disappointed by this book?)

Matt | 20 comments Currently about midway through Half a King and finding it a really good read. When I finish that, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is sitting there screaming "read me!".

message 86: by Talitha (new)

Talitha (victorian_soul) I finally finished The Broken Eye- I'm a little sad about the ending, even though I saw it coming. I'm planning on reading The Mirror Empire, but am currently reading Interview with the Vampire for Halloween.

message 87: by Michele (new)

Michele I did a reread of Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card. I like this book, but the others in the series don't interest me, not sure why.

Then Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor sort of a knock off of Connie Willis time travel. Was ok fun, not great.

Now rereading The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas as partial inspiration for my NanoWriMo story.

And listening to The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson for Halloween scary.

Heather (bruyere) Ready Player One is good if you are a gamer (MMORPG) and/or you are a huge 80s pop culture fan. It's very very niche. I have no interest in re-living the 80's but am a gamer so I love/hated it!

I wasn't completely honest, I skipped two days of work, and I didn't want to finish so soon, but unfortunately I did. I didn't know what else to do, except write a review

I'm now waiting for The Slow Regard of Silent Things to come in the mail and looking forward to it.

City of Stairs is really good, unlike anything I've read before. Highly recommend it. Gonna get stuck into Wool tonight.
