review: Katie is dealing with a home remodel and planning her wedding when she gets drawn into a murder case to help a friend. Katie's father is visiting and it is great getting to know him. I really like the circle of witches in this series as they are all different and all have interesting familiars. This was a good mystery and (view spoiler)

Max (Cold Fury Hockey, #6) by Sawyer Bennett
Max by Sawyer Bennett
Read: 11/12/19
How it qualifies: #6 in Cold Fury Hockey series
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Max is the new first string goalie for the Carolina Cold Fury professional hockey team. One night while grabbing snacks at a convenience store, he meets Julianne who is working the register and is instantly taken with her (and of course she has no idea who he is). But Jules life has recently gotten a lot more difficult. She is now raising her sister's 3 small kids after losing their mom to cancer, necessitating her to work 2 jobs and struggle with child care issues as well as the normal craziness that comes with feeding, clothing, disciplining, and loving her nieces and nephews. I enjoyed this installment in the series so much better than the last one. Max does a great job helping her take care of the kids, embrace her strengths, and see the value in making herself a priority. While she initially does a great job handling the attention that comes from being a celebrity's girlfriend, Jules soon falls victim to those who say she's just a golddigger looking for an easy life for her and the kids when all she's done her all to take care of them on her own.

Max is a supremely likable guy...not a player/manwhore, no fear of commitment, not afraid to show emotion with anyone, honest, understanding and supportive of Jules. Just an all around amazing book boyfriend. While some might consider Jules a whiny martyr type, I think she's more someone who wears her heart on her sleeve and sees value in doing for others, even if it is to her own determent, wants to make sure she isn't taking advantage of the kindness of others, and wants nothing more than to provide a good life for the kids and feel she is capable of doing it on her own. Just a sweet, low-drama, sports romance.

A Savage Place (Spenser, #8) by Robert B. Parker
A Savage Place by Robert B. Parker
How it Fits: Spenser #8
Pages: 192
Finished: 11/13/19
Rating: 3 stars

Review: I'm not entirely sure on this entry in the series. There were parts that I liked and parts that I really didn't. I could have done without the way-too-many descriptions about LA, restaurants, streets, what they were eating, etc. That could have been cut out completely for me. And I won't even talk about how ridiculous the ending was - like Spenser was really going to be able to just walk out of there unscathed after the stunt he pulled.... not very believable to me. However, the rest of the book was enjoyable and I will continue on with this series. This particular installment just won't be a favorite of mine.

Looks like tomorrow will be the last roll for this game - and it'll be a race to the finish!

Several teams (including us!) have the chance to go past 100 tomorrow with the use of their bonus points. The first team that has all their books read and reviews posted for a spot above 100 wins the game.

With 6 bonus points at our disposal, we'll need to roll 9 or higher for a chance to win - so keep your fingers crossed! :D

To expedite matters in case we're lucky with the dice it might be a good idea for everyone to already have a standalone or #1 book picked out (preferably a short one that'll be a quick read). :)

Rating: 4 stars
Review:
I really enjoy this series and these characters. These two were funny and real, or as real as a fake relationship turned real without them knowing can be.

I admit, I am sucker for this trope and she did it very well. I can't wait to go back to the beginning of the series and meet the side characters from the very beginning.

And I have the kindle app on my phone so if I get a moment between residents, I'll try to get some reading in. Unfortunately I usually don't have time for it, but might make an exception today

Review:
Workaholic Erica is flying home after a disastrous business trip to London. Carefree Abby is on the way to visit her mother before heading off on her next adventure. But the date is 11 September 2001, and when US airspace is closed off due to the terror attacks, the plane meant to carry them to New York becomes one of dozens diverted to the small town of Gander in Canada. Stuck in a strange limbo for the next four days and overwhelmed both by the horror at what is happening at home and the incredible warmth and generosity with which they're received by their unexpected hosts, the passengers begin to form lasting friendships in their shared experience - and perhaps more.

A surprisingly sweet and heartwarming read given the backdrop. I enjoyed both the romance and the underlying story of people coming together and strong bonds formed between strangers in a time of crisis. Sure, there were occasional moments when I wanted to smack either of the protagonists and tell them to get their act together, but for the most part, I really liked this novel.

Review: Too short! Maybe I’m being too harsh and more story would have just gotten away from the quick weekend hookup feel, but I wanted more time with them to see how they got to 6 months later. After the weekend the story jumps us forward and I felt like it would be perfect to see them struggle through the long distance thing for a bit as they feel each other out. But it was still cute and fun, and very sweet.

Have to say that yesterday my hubby commented on "are you going to just read ALL DAY!"
