Shirley | 4177 comments Some of us thought it might be fun if we read our namesake - for example, I will be reading Shirley in November.

All you need to do is find a book with your name in the title, and read it! Please feel free to tell us what you thought, how many stars etc in this thread.

Kara by Alexia Stark

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments I've already read Forever Amber. :)

message 4: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments Are we counting books that use your name as a word, such as Dragonfly in Amber or The Amber Spyglass, or do only books with women named Amber count?

message 5: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments I've also read Did You Hear about Amber?.

Shirley | 4177 comments amber wrote: "Are we counting books that use your name as a word, such as Dragonfly in Amber or The Amber Spyglass, or do only books with women named Amber count?"

Good question! I think either would work, but it would be good if you could find one with Amber as a woman in the title.

Yes, that's a tricky one...

message 10: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I don't know any books with the name Chrissie.

message 11: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmagem20) | 460 comments I have just found a book called Gemma by Meg Tilly, but not sure I like the synopsis. Usually I like books which are on difficult subjects, but sounds strange as it's my name and could be about me....has anyone read this?
'After Hazen Wood kidnaps 12 year-old Gemma Sullivan, the two embark upon a cross-country journey that tests the limits of Gemma's endurance. In graphic scenes of physical and sexual violence, Hazen tries to destroy the young girl's will.
It is only Gemma's childlike resilience and fertile imagination that protect her from the worst of the abuse she suffers. And in the end, the healing power of unconditional love gives Gemma the courage to speak out against her abuser at last - reclaiming her dignity as a human being'

message 12: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I don't think I will find something with my name but I will surely read Delhi by Khushwant Singh. It's the only one I have found that has a similar name and seen that it talks about India I would however read it.

Any idea for novels entitled Laura?

Perhaps you should go with Gemma and Sisters or The Flight of Gemma Hardy instead. :)

There is this one Noor. But I have no idea how hard it would be to get ahold of.

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments LauraT wrote: "Any idea for novels entitled Laura?"

I own both Laura Rider's Masterpiece and Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures, but haven't read either of them.

message 17: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments I think I'll have to give up on trying to find an Amber book I haven't already heard of, and just read one of the Amber Brown books.

message 18: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin All my namesakes in books seem to be men. I've already read Eugene Onegin so I am not sure what Eugenas are out there.

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I read a book that had my name as the title of the author's first name and it was The Fire Wishand that's a pretty good read.

message 20: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Genia - I have found three, but they are not eponymous - in the title - just in the novel.
1. Eugenie Danglars in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
2. Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan in The Help by Kathryn Stockett
3. Eugenia Crocker in Piccadilly Jim by P.G. Wodehouse

Maybe this is OK, mods, with an unusual name? Do any appeal Genia?

message 21: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Good idea, Jean! It's just a bit of fun really, so let's not make it too difficult or there will only be two or three joining in...

message 22: by Laurel (new)

Laurel | 283 comments @ LauraT - there is Laura by Vera Caspary which looks quite good, and also the short story Laura by Saki which I'm pretty sure I've read but can't remember now.
I might read one or both of these as my actual name is Laura too ;) (When I first joined goodreads I was a bit paranoid about using my details online so decided to use something very close to my name but not quite it)

Don't know them, I can give a look, thanks! I was thinking about Laura Ingalls

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments If you cant find a namesake book, go to your homepage, type your name into search engine and hit enter. It will show you books with your name in the title and books written by an author who has your name.

message 29: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I did not know that! Thanks Bette :) With my name there should be lots to choose from. I'm not even restricted to one gender :D

I still have my moments of brilliance, Jean:P

message 34: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 703 comments Not a lot out there with Laurel in the title and I've already read Mountain Laurel by Jude Deveraux. But on my last trip to Wales I bought a book in a used book store called Lowri by Grace Roberts. Lowri would be my nickname in Welsh and I have friends who actually call me that sometimes! This could be my excuse to finally read it. But please not before November! I have so much to read already this month.

Thanks for trying Amber! I had already looked at most of those and rejected them either because they are using Amber as a word, (Shirley said to pick a book using Amber as name) or for being fantasy (I'm not a fantasy fan). :)

message 36: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) I just read a book by an author called Gail. Hope that counts - doing a search for books with Gail in the title does bring up two books, but they seem quite obscure, and don't particularly appeal to me.

message 37: by Tweedledum (new)

Tweedledum (tweedledum) | 2166 comments @Gail there's always Gale in The Hunger Games

message 38: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) True, but his name is spelt differently from mine, so doesn't count, because it's not the same name. But if we can also do books that have a character with our name, I'm sure I could find others.

Yea, that would work, too.

Or would that be over-kill?

That sounds perfect!

I've had less luck with my namesake. There are plenty of books with the colour pink in the title, but nothing that has seemed worth reading so far.

I'm reading one right now, but I don't think it is your sort of book -- Nightmare in Pink, a mystery from the early 1960s.

message 46: by Pink (new)

Pink It doesn't sound like my sort of book Leslie, but you never know!

Did you try Author Search of 'Pink'? I found a Sam Pink, Thomas Pink, Nikki Pink etc. Daniel H. Pink = Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us (looks interesting) and other books like that. Good luck!

There's that Sue Grafton book... what was it called...? Oh, yeah, Kaye is for Killer. That's it!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments @K-Ann:
K is for Killer by Sue Grafton
Nobody's Fool: The Lives of Danny Kaye by Martin Gottfried a biography

or you could read any of the Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell
