There's a meme that shows up from time to time that asks people to post pictures of 3 characters they think most communicate who you are as a person.

What are they for you?

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
I think I'm Archimedes the owl from The Once and Future King, Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice and ...hmm. Third is hard. Probably Daine from Wild Magic. Or maybe Sirius Black.

message 3: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I won't post pictures now because I'm in a hurry, but I think, and got this results from quizzes ;-) that would be Galadriel, Jon Snow and Obi Wan Kenobi.

Jemppu | 1735 comments Ah, I've been faced with this before, and though I can't say I've spent much thought for it (or am yet to meet all the characters out there to say for sure), at least these three characters I've related to for various reasons:

Sebastian Flyte
Paul Stamets
Edna Mode?

...and Donatello. Isn't that one of the nerdiest most basic persona indicators - esp between siblings: "which Turtle are you?" 8)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments I am Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle, Ren from Planetfall, and Tenar from The Tombs of Atuan, hoping to one day become Tenar from Tehanu.

!!! I didn't account for such recent acquaintances. They'd def be another one *carefully waves at you from afar in acknowledgement*

This is nice <3

Absolutely not! Wouldn't think to visit or invite!

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments OK, you've proven you're a Ren, too! ^_^

Wow! All from the same series! You must resonate a lot with it.

message 12: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6117 comments they're just the ones who sprang to mind (I'm just waking up) and it's the different point of views that helped the book resonate

Arya = the tomboy part
Cat = older woman / family focus plus her love for her husband
Jon Snow = the outsider who doesn't want to be the center of anything but who will step up when needed

message 13: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
That makes sense to me! Sometimes these are best when they're the first things that come to mind :)

message 14: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments If I stick with books, then there is only one character that springs to mind (since I rarely feel myself represented in any form): that, too, would be Ren from Planetfall.

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Ren Club!

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
Wait, wait, I have a play on words here!

You all could have a Ren Faire!

ETA it occurs to me that you all are from European countries and therefore may not have a pretend history you dress up for that mimics your real history. Ren Faire is short for Renaissance Fair (e added for authenticity! ;-) ) and people pretend it's some made up time period between the Bronze age and the Victorian era, which is apparently all Renaissance.

message 17: by Jemppu (new)

Jemppu | 1735 comments Now, that would be quite UnRen-like to gather in such crowds ;)

(We do dress up for "Ren Fairs" - just had our Turku Medieval Festival couple weeks ago - what better place than between era accurate buildings of local churches and castle to arrange jousting matches and gather for street market along the town crossing river. Theatre town as we are: local students and graduates are many on the move around that time, playing the parts of royalty, clergy, tricksters and peasants.)

message 18: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
Haha! That sounds like a lot of fun though, Jemina! Ours are uh...not quite as accurate.

message 19: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments :D Nostalgia! I earned my first money as a dancer in a Renaissance ensemble.

Ha! I am getting off topic, but I was always lead to believe that it wasn't a real "thing" done in Europe.

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1436 comments Billy Pilgrim from Slaughterhouse Five
Ford Prefect from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Heeey! Nice :D

Allison wrote: "I was always lead to believe that it wasn't a real "thing" done in Europe."
Could be that it blends in so well with cultural history, that it doesn't get regarded as such a novelty, but rather an acknowledgement of local history (or perhaps just another fair weekend among several in summer times?). Around here at least it means increasing tourism to museums and the aforementioned historical landmarks (and theater?) So, one could say, perhaps even more of a 'real' thing ^^'

CBRetriever | 6117 comments Allison wrote: "Ha! I am getting off topic, but I was always lead to believe that it wasn't a real "thing" done in Europe."

it is, but there are also Medieval festivals in France and it's so much more interesting when they're set in a place that has actual buildings from the era. Here's a good site to check out European historical festivals

http://allexciting.com/medieval-histo...

we even went to a Napoleon Bonaparte festival that had reenactments of battles, soldier's camps, etc in Rueil-Malmaison one year (it's the town where Josephine's Chateau Malmaison is located and where she and her daughter Hortense, mother of Napoleon III, are buried)

message 30: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6117 comments ooo, here's the site for the Medieval festival I went to in France (sorry, it's in French):

https://souvigny.com/26e-foire-mediev...

if you look at the Gallerie (2014 & 2016), you'll see it looks a little bit like a Renaissance festival but it's also quite a bit different in that the have lots of people dressed up as the local elf types with pointed ears and characters on stilts and both the food (no turkey legs) and costumes are more implistic

Wen | 401 comments Allison wrote: "I think I'm Archimedes the owl from The Once and Future King, Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice and ...hmm. Third is hard. Probably Daine from [book:Wild Magic|138..."

Yeah, I like so much his whole weariness with humankind that always treated him like a bastard and then wants him to take care of all the problems. The face he makes when everybody wants him to be the leader, it's a "why me? why can't I take a break?" face :-)
Just love it because I can understand all that.

message 34: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Never thought about this before.
Let's go with Mary Lennox, Mary Ingalls, and Annika Settergren.
I'd like to be more like Princess Irene (Curdie's rescuer).

Yes, it's true, I've never actually grown up.

I want new adventure for Murderbot but sitting in the box and watching entertainment feeds is also very cute. :)

message 41: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments This is a fun topic!

- Arthur Dent of the first two Hitchhiker books

- Any of the female characters in Akiko Higashimura's manga, except the glamorous ones

- Mark Twain as a persona in his non-fiction

(there are definitely aspects that all of these characters entirely miss and that I can't immediately think of someone who fits. why are 2/3 of these men though? )

Maybe I'll join Club Ren whenever I get around to reading that book!

message 42: by Trike (new)

Don’t sweat it. Mine are a dog, a genderless cyborg and a 6-year-old girl.

Jan (jan130) | 413 comments I'm with you, ML. I want to think there's a bit of Lessa in me too.
Dragonflight (Dragonriders of Pern, #1) by Anne McCaffrey

Definitely Lirael.
Lirael (Abhorsen, #2) by Garth Nix

Also, if we're swapping genders, Prince Arren from The Farthest Shore.
The Farthest Shore (Earthsea Cycle, #3) by Ursula K. Le Guin

This is fun.

message 49: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Of course, now having read the entire thread, I’m influenced by all of your choices! I’m also feeling quite influenced by what I’m reading at the moment or by the characters that inspired me as a kid (Trixie Belden, Laura Ingalls, Harriet the Spy). I think I’ll have to give this some serious thought and get back to you!

Allison, they have medieval fairs in Germany all spring/summer/fall long. People dress up, reenact battles, make and sell appropriate goods, crafts and food and play medieval and folk music. For a period about 20 years ago I gave voice lessons to a girl who sang with a medieval band for these festivals.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2717 comments Ok, so I'm gonna cheat a little

Hermione Granger, Cassandra from Dragon Age, Death of the Endless... but with a dash of Tonks and Delerium thrown in.
