Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: How many books did you read in January? What were your favorite and least favorite reads of the month?"I didn't finish anything in January. I read two books but didn't finish either last month.

Favorite: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Least favorite: The Chosen by Chaim Potok

Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What February releases are you excited for?"Rebel Witch
Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales
First-Time Caller
Where Shadows Bloom
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What February releases are you excited for?"one day, everyone will have always been against this by omar el-akkad
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: February is the shortest month—what’s a short book (under 250 pages) you’d recommend?"A Psalm for the Wild-Built - I absolutely loved this little gem and it's only 147 pages.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: February is the shortest month—what’s a short book (under 250 pages) you’d recommend?"I never pay attention to how many pages a book has so I had to do a little research for this one. I'd definitely recommend The Time Machine by HG Wells, Death on The Nile by Agatha Christie, and Persuasion by Jane Austen.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: February is the shortest month—what’s a short book (under 250 pages) you’d recommend?"- The Man Who Knew How by Dorothy L. Sayers
- Address Unknown by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor
- Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx
All excellent!
I’d definitely recommend A Minor Chorus by Billy-Ray Belcourt! I think all of the books I read by him are under 250 pages.
QOTD: What’s a book that made you cry recently? If not recently, what's the last book that made you cry?
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book that made you cry recently? If not recently, what's the last book that made you cry?"Fourth Wing made me cry and I didn't expect it to.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book that made you cry recently? If not recently, what's the last book that made you cry?"A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
The most recent book I can remember that made me cry is Changes by Jim Butcher, which I read about 12 years ago.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What is your ideal way to spend a chilly, rainy day?"Blanket, couch, cappuccino, books.
For me, a chilly, rainy day is perfect for getting cozy! I'd curl up with a blanket, a warm drink (probably coffee or tea), and a good book. My book of choice would probably be something atmospheric like a gothic novel or a fantasy with rich world-building. I'd probably have lamps on and listen to the rain fall against the windowsill while I read.
QOTD: What’s a book you thought you’d love but ended up DNF-ing, or wish you had DNF'd after you finished it?
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book you thought you’d love but ended up DNF-ing, or wish you had DNF'd after you finished it?"My most recent disappointment was These Precious Days: Essays. I read it for book club. I didn't think that I would love it and it would be a new favorite, but I thought that I would enjoy it, at the very least. It has great ratings, it was a Goodreads Choice Award nominee, and a few book club participants recommended this author. So, I had hopes of enjoying it and I didn't, unfortunately. I did finish it but ended up giving it a 1-star rating, and should have DNF'd it.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book you thought you’d love but ended up DNF-ing, or wish you had DNF'd after you finished it?"A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. This is one of those everyone-loved-this-book-except-me books. I just could not get into it. Quit at 20%.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book you wish you could experience for the first time again?"The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and The Hobbit, or There and Back Again. These are two of my most favorite books of all time.
QOTD: What book features your favorite romantic relationship? If romance books aren't your vibe, what book features your favorite platonic friendship?
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What book features your favorite romantic relationship? If romance books aren't your vibe, what book features your favorite platonic friendship?"I can't choose. I love Feyre & Rhys – A Court of Mist and Fury and Violet & Xaden – Fourth Wing.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What book features your favorite romantic relationship? If romance books aren't your vibe, what book features your favorite platonic friendship?"I really do love Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe's relationship in the Anne of Green Gables series. I love that feisty and stubborn Anne found someone just as stubborn and strong willed but completely besotted with her. It's like the weirder the thing Anne did was, the more Gilbert fell in love with her lol
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What book has the most shocking plot twist you’ve ever read?"When I think of shocking plot twists, thrillers come to mind. One of the craziest plot twists that I would have never been able to guess was the one at the end of Lock Every Door. I've heard that Frieda McFadden books are pretty twisty, so I need to read some of hers.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What book has the most shocking plot twist you’ve ever read?"The Man Who Knew How by Dorothy L. Sayers
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book that left you with a major book hangover?"The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
Fourth Wing
A Court of Mist and Fury
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book that left you with a major book hangover?"house of leaves by mark z danielewski
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: Do you read more in the morning, afternoon, or at night?"I would say I read more probably in the evening through the week. On the weekends, it just depends, but I would say I read more during the afternoon.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: Do you read more in the morning, afternoon, or at night?"i'm not sure, honestly. probably the afternoon/evening.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: How do you choose your next read—mood, TBR, recommendations, or impulse?"My next read is usually based on my mood and impulse. I've tried fighting my mood reading tendencies and it never works out well for me. My reading enjoyment is better when I go with whatever I'm in the mood for at the time, which can sometimes be on impulse.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: How do you choose your next read—mood, TBR, recommendations, or impulse?"i wish i wasn't, but i'm a mood reader
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: Have you ever finished a book and immediately started rereading it?"yeah, i did that with the outsiders by s.e. hinton a couple of different times in high school. i also usually read shorter poetry collections twice before i log them on here, but it's not always directly after i finish it the first time
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: Have you ever finished a book and immediately started rereading it?"I don't think I've ever finished a book and then immediately started it over again.
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: Have you ever finished a book and immediately started rereading it?"Never
Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a book cover trend you love? What’s one you dislike?"I really love covers that have designs and illustrations. Some of my favorites are:
The Priory of the Orange Tree
When the Moon Hatched
Fourth Wing
but I also like more minimalistic covers too, like:
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
I really dislike real people on covers. I avoid buying or borrowing books with real people on the covers. If there is no alternative, and I really want to read it, then it will be a kindle or audio read.
