I think I'd have to say Anne Shirley. She was so unique and vivacious for the time period she was set in. She attacked everything with so much passion and optimism, and I love her vivid imagination. To come from such terrible circumstances as hers and to still have the strength of character to soldier on and rise to her circumstances has always endeared her to me.

QOTD: What has been your favorite 2023 book release so far?

message 2904: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments So far, I have only read four 2023 book releases. All good. My favorite was All That Is Mine I Carry with Me by William Landay.

message 2905: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (estewart399_lcpl) | 601 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What has been your favorite 2023 book release so far?"

I think the only new release I've read this year is The Winter Soldier by Mackenzie Lee. It was good, I wouldn't consider it a favorite though.

message 2906: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments The only 2023 release I've read this year is Above Ground by Clint Smith. Not a new favorite, but it was actually better than I expected. Poetry isn't my thing, but I gave this collection four stars. I think Smith's writing is easily digestible yet important. I'll keep reading from him!

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments The only thing I plan to do this spring/summer is go to a ceramic shop I saw on Facebook, in Corbin. :)

I listen to alternative rock (Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers, (old) Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures, etc.) It's probably my favorite genre lol.

I usually just listen to Apple Music.

I listen to a lot of country from all decades, and like 70's singer/songwriter, like The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt. Those are my two favorites. And I use Apple Music mostly.

There are some I'd like to own multiple copies of but I don't, because I feel it's impractical, unless someone gifts me them and I end up having multiples that way. I have multiple copies of Anne Of Green Gables that way lol

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you prefer reading alone or discussing books with others? Why?"

I rarely have the same interests in books as my friends, so I typically read alone. There is an occasional buddy read though.

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is a book that you were initially hesitant to read but ended up enjoying?"

Lark Ascending by Silas House. I had read a different book by this author that I did not like. So, I was really hesitant to read another. But it turned out that I absolutely loved Lark Ascending.

Believe it or not, The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi. I wasn't sure about it even while reading, but it quickly became a book I'll never forget.

QOTD: Out of the books you've read so far, which one has the most beautiful writing? Feel free to share a quote or passage from the book with everyone.

idk if it's the most beautiful but it's the one that immediately comes to mind: on earth we're briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong. i always love reading novels from people who're usually known for their poetry. i really wanna re-read it soon now that i have my own copy i can write in because there's so many good passages in there.

I like taking Dot for a walk in the park (as stressful as that is.)
I'll sit outside and read, or I'll sit inside and open the windows.

message 2939: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Goins | 525 comments It depends. If it is baseball/softball season, then we are usually at the ball field. We also like to ride our side by side and/or take our kiddos fishing.
