Sara (phantomswife) Entered the debut novel--completes the bucket. If The Creek Don't Rise

message 452: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments WooHoo Bucket 13 is done!

Bucket 14 is book that takes place during the summer and book a member of this group recommended. I think we have at least one person reading for each, though I might be the only summer book and busy spreadhsheeting! I'll start reading soon.

I've entered all women A-F who meet the goodreads choice criteria. I'm going to go with Jillian's narrowing it further down before looking at year of birth and nationality.

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - Question!

12. Games 12 - Was she nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in any of the following categories in 2017-2018: graphic novel&comic, MG/Children, Picture Books, YA fiction, YA sci fi, YA fantasy?

message 454: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I updated my pages read today and the game I participated in.

Work has been a bear his week.

message 456: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I can bring a book that is set during the summer to work tomorrow and it’ll be finished before 5pm est.

But right now I’ve completed today’s game and read 719 pages - I recommend We Are the Perfect Girl for people who like YA not fully romances. It was fun.

message 457: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (minna17) I am currently reading Code Name Verity which I can keep from finishing to fulfil Bucket 16 - a book set in a country you haven't been to. I was also planning to read some comics which I can save for bucket 18 - graphic novel/book with illustrations.

In that case, I'm going to go back to my other book since I think you'll finish this before I finish mine.

message 459: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I just filtered authors down to 18. There were a couple I couldn't figure out when or where they were born.

I'm thinking of asking YA/YA sci fi (yes = 11, no = 10).

message 460: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Since Tatra thinks she can get a summer book done tomorrow before I'd get mine done, I'm going to go back to Unmarriageable, which will fit in romantic element or set in country you haven't been to.

message 461: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments For the NASA prompt, I just checked out the audiobook Chasing New Horizons: Inside the Epic First Mission to Pluto (suggested by our teammate Sophie in the Wild discussion for 2020).

message 462: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - We have a question. I screwed up my numbering and already asked #12, but skipped #11.

11.(twelfth question) Bucket 13 - Was she nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in YA fiction or YA fantasy and sci fi in 2017-2018?

message 463: by Marie (UK) (last edited Jun 13, 2019 01:19AM) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments wow i go to bed and sleep ALL night and its like 30 odd comments

so far the book i am reading is set in India I have never been there and it is also building up to a plot twist i think but i cannot be certain

I have a book with more than 20 letters in tittle
Miss Jane Austen's Guide to Modern Life's Dilemmas: Answers to Your Most Burning Questions About Life, Love, Happiness (and What to Wear) from the Great Novelist Herself

and by author of colour
We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy

message 465: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I’ll post when I finish The Cafe by the Sea for a book set in the summer.

message 466: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments I have The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion on audiobook that I am flying through and should finish today, but will hold off on reading the last chapter until bucket 16 for a book with a heart on the cover.

My reading of The Woman in Cabin 10 is going slower so I hope others are working on a book with a major plot twist as I might not finish it until Saturday. The goodreads synopsis of it does include a question ("The problem?") so it could work for bucket 20.

message 467: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I have about 5 minutes left of Cartes Postales from Greece to listen to. It fits for book with a romantic element or country you’ve never been to. I’ve just started another audiobook that would work for a book with an animal on the cover (bird) or country I’ve never been to.
I’m going to go to the library after work to hopefully find books that could work for the last few buckets. I think question in the synopsis could be a hard to find - is anyone currently reading something for it / got something planned?

message 468: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments The Girl Who Came Out of the Woods 13/06/2019

complete it doesn't fit anything current or upcoming

320 pages i will add them

message 469: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2881 comments I'm have way through The Clockmaker's Daughter and GR synopsis has a question for a "Book with a synopsis that includes a question."

This will give me the push to finish it. I'm bored with it.

I'm also halfway done with The Invisible Man (I should finish it during lunch). I was hoping to get more read this morning but I did today's game instead.

message 470: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments I have done todays game

message 471: by Traci (last edited Jun 13, 2019 08:36AM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments We're down to 9 authors: (goodreads award nom. genre and year also listed). Should we filter on name?

Sarina Bowen - YA - 2018
Victoria Aveyard - YA Sci Fi - 2017 & 2018

message 472: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments I have ten minutes left on The Rosie Project. I will wait to finish it until we are on bucket 16 for a book with a heart on the cover.

message 473: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments if we asked if either of the authors initials were A we could get a 4 / 5 split

message 474: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I agree with Marie. That’s the only question I can think of that will get a nearly even split.

message 475: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - we have a question.

13. Games 13 - Does her surname start with an A?

message 476: by Arielle (new)

Arielle | 12 comments I just finished Skin Game which could count as book with a twist or mystery ending

I am going to start reading Love with a Chance of Drowning which has a heart on the cover. I aim to finish it in time for that post to count but it may be tough to get it done in time. Is anyone else reading anything for that category?

message 477: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) listening to audiobook again today but it doesn't really fit for category. it will count as pages though. not to many today as I'm just starting and it's already almost 2. sorry we had some problems I had to deal with so couldn't listen to anything.

Unfortunately, we're not to the bucket with a twist yet, do you recommend the book if someone else wants to pick it up?

Karissa is reading a book with a heart on the cover and waiting to finish until we get to bucket 16, so we should already be good on that category. Obviously, still feel free to read it, just thought I'd give you a heads up!

message 479: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Hey team, do we have anyone other than Karissa reading a book with a twist that would finish it after we complete bucket 14? I know there are a couple of people aiming to finish the books for bucket 14 today.

message 480: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments I'm reading Part of Your World which could work as a stretch for the twist prompt. But I'll be heading to bed soon and I probably won't finish it until tomorrow at the earliest.

message 481: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments Traci wrote: "Hey team, do we have anyone other than Karissa reading a book with a twist that would finish it after we complete bucket 14? I know there are a couple of people aiming to finish the books for bucke..."

I’m not at the moment, but I got Where'd You Go, Bernadette from the library today and its on a list of books with a twist. It’s 321 pages, so I might finish it tonight, or at least get close.

message 482: by Marie (UK) (last edited Jun 13, 2019 11:49AM) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments mine has a romance in it - could have a twist - does it need to be on a list will be finished tomorrow

I can do set in country not visited -The Camel Bookmobile

person of colour We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy

title over 20 characters Miss Jane Austen's Guide to Modern Life's Dilemmas: Answers to Your Most Burning Questions About Life, Love, Happiness (and What to Wear) from the Great Novelist Herself

I have another challenge starting tomorrow with specific requirements so can probably only do 1 of those 3 later buckets

ETA the person of colour one is non fiction and would not be a quick read

message 483: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 13. Games 13 - Does her surname start with an A? YES

message 484: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I don't know if anyone else is getting confused, but I am! So...since planning tab has been a little rough to keep up, I'm going to list tasks and people/books here. Please note, if you are not listed, you can still read for the prompts, this is just who has mentioned their options or put them in the spreadsheet. message 486: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments Traci wrote: "If people have edits/additions to message 484, I can update."

i will concentrate on finishing A Dangerous Act of Kindness for possible plot twist and definite romance (as long as previous bucket is done)

also the long title - jane austens's guide we have lots of options for the others

message 487: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments when we get another question we could ask about first names

unless anyone knows another way to split the four

Jillian | 2881 comments I finished The Invisible Man recommended by Marie.

message 489: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments Marie (UK) wrote: "Traci wrote: "If people have edits/additions to message 484, I can update."

Marie - when do you think you are likely to finish the book with a plot twist? If you are a lot closer than me, it might make more sense on my book for bucket 17 involving an animal

message 490: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I just finished The Cafe by the Sea for the book that takes place during the summer! (Busy day at work today, so I was slow in reading)

message 491: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (minna17) We could ask of they were nominated for both 2017 and 2018, that way we would narrow it down to 2.

message 492: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Good job finishing up bucket 14! I'll tweak message 484 and make sure it's added to our next page of messages for easy reference, so if people want to make changes/additions, let me know.

I'll ask the mods a question to narrow our choices to 2.

message 493: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - we have another question!

14. Bucket 14 - Was she nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in YA fiction or YA fantasy and sci fi in both 2017 and 2018?

message 494: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments For my next audiobook, I started listening to one about animals that I should be able to get to a finishing point tomorrow for Bucket 17.

message 495: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 513 comments I just completed No One Is Here Except All of Us whose setting is Romania, a country I have never visited.

Was she nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in YA fiction or YA fantasy and sci fi in both 2017 and 2018? No

message 497: by Arielle (new)

Arielle | 12 comments Thank you for the updates . I did enjoy Skin Game by Stuart Woods but if you haven’t read his other books in the Stone Barrington and Teddy Fay series , I wouldn’t recommend picking up with this one as you would miss too much of the character background

message 498: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments As a reminder - buckets need to be finished in order. I try to make a note here when we've finished a bucket. All books count for our page tally though, and I'm intrigued to see how high that will get!!

Current bucket is #15: 1) plot twist, 2) romantic element.
On deck is #16: 1) heart in cover/title, 2) 2 books from countries you've never been to.

message 499: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Who wants to pick our guess?

message 500: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2881 comments I’d guess Renee Ahdieh since her birthday and location is showing up.
